  1. Cipes, he said he already attempted that and that it didn't solve the problem
  2. disregard the animation issue...I have solved that.
  3. I have another question. how can we go about making an animation VR object? One that constantly rotates on it's own? I saw an option somewhere in Vectorworks about a camera path or something like that, but I have no clue how to go about with that process... I'm going to go check out the manual right now for anything, but I always understand things best when people tell me what i need to do.
  4. well, stupid me...I just noticed the zoom option....nevermind...
  5. whoops... http://www.blackenedsun.com/redbrick/media/mov/Before.mov who knows why I put .jpg...lol The other topic that you have linked me to sees to refer much more to panorama VR objects, than to a VR object... this is the one where you click and drag around, and the object rotates according to such. There is no zoom in feature for the VR objects. I guess I will try with that invisible wall thing that was talked about there, to see if the zoom in Vectorworks itself makes a difference. 6. I made a quicktime VR Object ( http://www.blackenedsun.com/redbrick/media/mov/Before.jpg ) If you notice by clicking on there, the file has a LOT of excess white all around the side of the file, and I was wondering how I can go about getting rid of all this extra white. I'm sure there is some way to crop it, but I do not know how to for Quicktime, and especially not for Quicktime VR Objects...
  7. Does anyone know about the fourth question (lighting)? is that just fixed with the ambience light rather than putting any specific light sources in?
  8. I do have version 11, but how does the "fit walls to roof" command work, exactly? all my roofs are on a separate layer than the walls, for cleaner views when I look at the floor itself.
  9. The Building I'm trying to recreate on my computer is from the early 19th century. It's a mill with a roof area that is equivilant to a loft. I made the roof look the way I want it to look (slope going up on only two sides), but I noticed the other two sides of the roof show up as gray roof sides that are at a 90 degree slope. These are supposed to be brick walls rather than a roof-like side. I guess I'll ask it this way: First, how do you break up a roof object into individual roof faces so for example, I can get rid of these unneeded roof faces? Second, how can I create a wall that has a constantly changing height? the wall would basically be in the shape of a vertical triangle, or an even more irregular shape (but still triangle based) Third (unrelated), how can move the perspective thing to cover a different angle? whenever I turn on perspective, I always end up inside the building, in the same spot, without any real idea how in the world to change the location of it. Fourth, lighting... how can I put interior lighting so when I do look at interior perspectives it's not dark? Thanks, sorry for seeming like such a noobie with VW. I thought I had some of this down, but i guess not...haha...once I think of one question to ask, about 5 more pop up in my head. Another sort of side question: how could I actually go about with the design of a loft? this roofing design is not exactly anything that's commonly used...
  10. If you prefer a PC, I know an awful lot about computers...haha Cipes, Monitors don't really have anything to do with faster renderings :-p a FULL MB?? lol...they haven't used only a single MB of RAM in how long? are you sure you mean that? I don't know macs so you could be right, but I have 512 MB of RAM on my computer...lol I would think you should get something with these stats: 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 Processor Somewhere between 1 and 2 GB of RAM minimum 80 GB HD, 7200 RPM Defintely go with a better graphics card. ATI and Nvidia are both releasing new graphics cards soon, but I would say go with either the ATI Radeon 9800 256MB... or the Nvidia GeForce FX 5900 256 MB... I would defintely get the Ultra versions of either of those if they are in your budget range. Even though they do not make business based computers (although they might now), you should defintely get it from Alienware. I've compared a dell and an Alienware before to equal (or close to) stats and the Alienware was still far far better than the Dell. I own an alienware myself. Alienware creates your computer and then they configure it for ultimate speed and ability.

    Floors

How would you create a floor? I seem to be looking in the wrong parts of the manual when it covers that, because I have no clue what to do. I just want to create a floor in which the objects below it are not visible when I'm rendering... I feel like an idiot asking this question... I have 4 different layers with the walls already designed, but with no floors, so when I use layerlink, you see all the layers, but no floors separating them...
  12. solved the invisble wall issue...apparently many of my walls decided to be flat objects rather than walls...
  13. Sac, having too much memory is indeed a waste...you really only want to keep the memory that you need... for high quality renderings and fast renders I believe you'd need (atleast for this time) roughtly 1.5 or 2 GB of RAM... Just look at the requirements that the programs give you. Always try to have atleast double the RAM requirements. That means you work at the optimum efficiency of the program. I play a lot of games, and most still only require 256 MB of RAM...I have 512 on my computer and I have yet to ever encounter any major lag or downtimes. The only times I encounter that is when I have a lot more things running than just the game. Personally, if you want your computer to run any large program (Like VectorWorks) at optimum quality. make sure you aren't running many other programs (and that includes programs running in the background) Chris K. 14. Thanks, that part has been solved... Now I just need a solution for the invisible wall issue...
  15. Just full of questions, aren't I? I used the layer link, but the roof for some reason shows up on the first floor...so I go to File > Setup > Model Setup and see that the roof layer is actually set for a 0 elevation...I fix it, but for some reason it always resets itself back to 0, is there a reason for this, or is it just a bug?
  16. How can I determine if the walls are set to Invisible? [edit] I found some related option under Organize > Class Visibilities, and Organize > Layer Visibilities but everything is set to visible.. Is there any other way to determine this? 17. Where is this ROOF FACE command that you talk about? I'm trying what Charles said for 2) at the moment. Both of you were very helpful for number 1, thanks
  18. I am trying to render the entire building all at once, but whenever I do any sort of rendering it only does one floor. All the floors are all on different layers (because that is how the File > Setup > Model Setup) sets up the file I work with to be. How do you render the entire building at once? Also, even with a sun ambience source, the textures still seem to be rather dark (using a red brick texture). I tend to look at the floors with renderworks on a Right or Left Isometric View, but when I do, some of the walls do not show up (but the windows that are in these walls do show up). Is this a problem that needs to be fixed, or is this a natural way to render? Thanks, Chris K
  19. I encounter this same problem. All the walls are straight, and it's a rather small building. I get this error every single time I try to run Artistic Renderworks. I am running Vectorworks 11 on a PC 1.66 GHz and 256 MB RAM
  20. I'm a computer newcomer to the Vectorworks world. So, unable to do some things, I am asking here for help: I have Vectorworks 11... Is there a way to mass select objects (such as walls), and change them ALL (like assign to ALL of them a render texture)? I cannot solve this and go to EVERY single wall in the building I'm designing to change it to the same texture. As for roofs. this building that I'm recreating is a rather old building, I believe it's from the 19th Century. It has a very unique roof system that gives you a lot of free space, a loft... I try to select the walls and hit "create roof", but it does not give me enough options of what way I want the roof designed. The roof that is designed just makes slopes coming up from all four size, when the building itself only has two slopes. Since the AEC > Create Roof won't do the job I need it to, what other ways are there to create a roof? how do I go about doing it? I have another question, but it revolves around renderworks, so I will post it in the respective forum. Thanks, Chris K.
