  1. Oh, I see. I was under the assumption that X-Grid basically allowed you to borrow processing power from any other machine that wasnt being used, regardless of the application. Thanks
  2. Anyone have any experience setting up X-Grid to borrow additional processing power for VW? Thanks
  3. No matter what I do, VW 11.51 is still dog-slow. I have a Top-Fuel dragster for a machine, and it works great for every other application, but it seems as VW is like putting water in the tank. Unbelieveable.
  4. With 11.01, rendering was pretty good as far as speed. With 11.51, my batch viewport rendering on the same project is at least twice as long time wise.
  5. Pharr, I just emailed you a typical project. Pls do the test on 'Update all viewports'. This will give the machine and the software some good time to work through the renderings. I usually render all viewports, then go and do some other things regarding the project in Excel. In 11.01, I am usually just finishing up the Excel stuff, when the viewports complete all their rendering. Now on a typical project I have finished with Excel, and I am waiting around for the renderings to complete. I bet 11.51 is slower by 30%+ in updating viewports in my estimations. Let me know how you make out... Thanks
  6. Hi Paul, I would be happy to send a few examples along. My files are quite large, even when zipped. (10-15 megs) How would you like me to give them to you. Eddie
  7. You know what, Islandmon... you are correct. I had it in plan view. One of those obvious things I was missing. Thank you very much. Eddie
  8. Thanks for the response. No for both. It seems to be a figity issue. Sometimes is problematic, other times it is fine. I cant make it work, as it seems to be OK most of the time. One of those strange untrackable phenomenons.
  9. Sometimes my symbols dont want to snap to the proper Z Height, although it picks up the smart point of another symbol which has it's height set. Lately they have been snapping to '0' no matter which point it picks up. Also, I have a locus point inbedded into a symbol, and althought it is right at the top of a piece of geometry on the symbol, it doesnt recognize it is there when I mouse over it. Very annoying. Am I missing something?!!
  10. To me 11.51 solves all my issues which forced me back to 11.1 from 11.5. Some of the geometry of my symbols 'exploded' after inserting them, rendering them, and going back into design layer. This forced me to revert back to 11.1 and rebuild many projects. This bug is definately solved, however you may label it. My only issue now is that 11.51 is very slow in comparison to 11.1.
  11. It seems to be with all my files. I have used 11.01 for the last 6 months, and I know how fast it is. Rendering times are definately slower in 11.51 even though I cant qualify, or quantify it.
  12. If you are doing alot with Open GL, then the video card is very very important. If this is the case, get the biggest fastest one you can get. Video card has little to do with rendering, so if you are doing lots of rendering, get the biggest processor you can get.
  13. I just tried the update to 11.51. I have skipped the 11.5 update since i had endless problems with it, and went back to use 11.01. Seems like the issues I was experiencing are solved, but ohhh man this program is slow in OpenGL, and rendering compared to 11.01.! Is it just me?
  14. I stumbled across this, and I thought it might be helpful. If you want to export to an image file in Final Q Renderworks, you have to let the entire image render once, then do the export. I found that if I start the render in FQ, then stop it right away (Apple+.), then export to image file, it assumes that it has been rendered once. Basically you save the time waiting for the first rendering to be complete.
  15. Kevin, with this problem, If I do this very thing, they still dont take on the class style. It still shows up as a white colour. I re-build the part I had the problem with, and it seems to be OK. Thanks all.
  16. We have both PC and Apple seats of VW. I find the Macs seem to run overall better than the PCs. OS X is a breeze to learn, and in my opinion much more enjoyable. have had millions of problems with 11.5, but 11.01 seems to be just fine. Still cant get enough power for rendering, however my 2.5G seems to suffice. Good luck.
  17. I have run across this issue a few times. I design a part, then I assign a class with a specific colour. When I render the part, the correct class colour doesnt render properly. I obviously assumed that I didnt assign the class 'deep enough' in the part, but everything seems like it is set properly. Also, on the attributes, the fill colour shows White with the same-as-class arrow, when in my class menu, the colour is set to blue. Anyone have any ideas?
  18. You may want to talk to your Apple dealer and see if they have a previous generation Dual 2.5 in stock. I just bought one a couple of months ago, and it was the same price as the 2.3 but with a faster bus.
  19. I repaired permissions, and it seemed to go away.
  20. Hmmm good wisdom, thanks. If I start from scratch, I may do this. Thanks!
  21. Sorry for the off-topic question here. Does anyone use a good project tracking software that allows sharing of projects/email/leads etc? I have been using Entourage, but it is as slow as molasses when it has to deal with multiple projects. Thanks
  22. Now all my viewports are crashing no matter what I do.
