  1. [tumbleweed] Maybe a few of us could fill the gap ourselves? I'd be happy to set up, contribute to and maintain a blog if others were interested in contributing to it. Any takers? I could think of a few good writers on this forum.
  2. What, because you have a backup now, or because files are not being corrupted now?
  3. To those who have had corruption issues with v12.5 and v12.5.1: did you have an external USB or Firewire drive connected to your machine?
  4. So is there any advantage to a polygon over a closed polyline?
  5. Another one for the 'more functional wall join' group of wishlist items.
  6. I bet you to it Sarah http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=67625
  7. , that is one badly written ugly application! Great hatch & texture resource though.
  8. I've found the method of estimating the radius with a circle then 2 Fillets, Trim, Compose to be the quickest method. 26 seconds to be precise. So thanks for everyone's input; it'll help with many other shapes too I'm sure. By the way, does anyone know the answer to my query about the advantages and disadvantages of converting it into a polygon? One disadvantage is that you lose the snap centres of the circles.
  9. I'd find flattening layers very useful too, especially when sending to the printer.
  10. Heh, yeap. Actually I went through much of the wishlist (still to go through the whole lot) marking the one's I rate the most, most of which were mine naturally, but some others too. It would be good if the rating menu could be moved to the top of the thread instead of down the bottom.
  11. Edit (Mar 2023): This wish was originally for Vectorworks itself, and I would still love to have this kind of navigation built into Vectorworks, but where we could *really* do with it, for the sake of our own clients is VGX web views. What I want is real-world navigation physics: Awareness of solid objects, default mode should be that you can't walk through them. Ability to walk up stairs Ability to walk through doors/gates. Or, even better, VGX would parse the model for doors/gates and animate opening them when you walk through them. Ability to climb through windows, as item above Ability to jump/climb over objects Gravity, jump over an object and land on the surface below etc. When you click on first-person mode it should set you down softly on the nearest horizontal surface with a smooth animation. The viewing height should remain consistent relative to the surface you're on. And perhaps with a stepping motion rather than a smooth camera effect (with the option of smooth motion), or an option for third-person navigation (i.e. you can see your character in front of you) We should be navigating VGX models like this: Original post: I'd like to be able to walk through a model like you can modern 3D game, with awareness of physics, such as gravity. Graphisoft have attempted this in ArchiCAD, although it looks a little ropey: http://graphisoft.vo.llnwd.net/o1/AC10/ACClips/AC10_35.mp4 from: http://www.graphisoft.com/products/archicad/ac10/demo/
  12. The network traffic I mention above is to do with updating the master, not saving the file. I've been reading some of the threads on the ArchiCAD forum and you can actually sign out parts of the project, shut down your laptop, go home with it and then come back in the next day and synchronise your changes with the master. Keep us posted Pete. I'd be interested to know what he says.
  13. I have a 20" screen, and tend to manage my palettes without too much trouble (although I do have problems). You can see a screenshot here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:VectorWorks_12.5_on_Mac_OS_X.png But this is another one of those wishes put forward partly from watching other people working with VectorWorks. It really blows me away how some people manage their palettes, and especially so how many times I come across someone without their Object Info palette open.
  14. Another link. The Virtual Building Concept http://www.3dcadco.com/flash/products/p_virtualbuilding.htm "Unlike antiquated drawing sharing techniques like Reference files and XREFS, developed over 20 years ago, ArchiCAD?s TeamWork functionality allows a building?s responsibilities to be divided just as a real project is divided."
  15. We use manual updating too. My understanding of ArchiCAD TeamWork is that manual updating is the only way to update (the job captain is very much in control, with their own password, too). And talking to an ArchiCAD friend of mine, he said that people also use it as some kind of option system, so you can apparently have different schemes within the same file. So, from what I can tell, it's a far more forgiving system than VectorWorks WGR currently is.
  16. I agree with Mike. I find that some people will use the 3D aspects of VectorWorks as a scapegoat for some of the problems with their drawings. It would great to be able to simply switch off 3D (such as the 3D parametric stairs).
  17. I've got a wishlist item to rid us of this problem Kevin: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=73285 I also mention a workaround. I recommend you do use a wall style, with your drywall included, and then when you've finished drawing your walls edit the wall style to remove the drywall.
  18. While dockable palettes (not toolbars as I called them above) is something I'd expect in VectorWorks, I'd also be interested in a completely unified window environment (with tabbed windows for opened files), designed along the lines of Apple's pro apps GUI (which maximises screen real estate), such as Aperture: http://www.apple.com/aperture/gallery/ Does Windows have a similar GUI framework for "pro" apps?
  19. Yeah, see this page: http://www.graphisoft.com/products/archicad/teamwork/ "... A satellite of the project is then created on the team member's computer, eliminating dependence on a live network. At any time - by network - team members can send changes to the master project and receive changes that others have made. Team members can send and receive single elements, and can add notes and mark up elements in each other's workspace."
  20. I've been having a look round this weekend for blogs covering BIM, VectorWorks, ArchiCAD and Revit but they're invariably discussing Autocad. About the only one I know is Jonathans Pickup's, on VectorWorks: http://web.mac.com/jpickup1/iWeb/Site/archoncad/archoncad.html Are there any others out there?
  21. Not sure what you mean here Pete. I work directly off a server in VW, and when I save a file I produce network traffic, because the file is situated on the server, not my local volume. When you save a file while using ArchCAD TeamWork you don't produce any network traffic because the file is very much on your local volume. Only at the point of synchronisation with the master file is any network traffic produced.
  22. A few links for those interested in collaborative CAD: Enabling REVIT Worksets: http://revitrocks.blogspot.com/2006/04/enabling-revit-worksets.html "Worksets help organize your project and act as a security guard on who can edit what. You can see it all but you are only allowed to edit certain objects." BIM There, Done That http://aec.cadalyst.com/aec/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=380006 "Also, ideally, you'll also need to facilitate real-time communication between team members. In a shared model (Teamwork in ArchiCAD, Worksets in Revit), many people can be working in a model simultaneously. Inevitably, you'll need to work on something that is already in use by someone else." Policing BIM Town http://aec.cadalyst.com/aec/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=383418 "Working in the building information model requires a whole new set of rules and regulations" "Fast Track" Is No Sweat with ArchiCAD http://www.hk-resources.com/PDF%20Docume...%20ArchiCAD.htm "After more than a year using ArchiCAD, Dowds credits ArchiCAD's TeamWork functionality with dramatically increasing their productivity ... What Dowds missed about manual drafting was the ability to look at the work that was being done on drawing boards, and review it on the spot. "Computer drafting generally doesn't work so well. You can't look at somebody's computer and understand what they are doing because a lot of the pertinent information is not showing on the screen." "But with TeamWork, Dowds is able to see what his colleagues are working on, as he has the ability to be in the same file at the same time. He also finds himself much more involved in the drafting process, because he is able to easily 'get in and get out.' "I feel like I am in control of the drawings again."
  23. If you're referring to me with regard to "unrealistic expectations" then you're quite mistaken. In fact I said in a previous thread that I assumed my wish was "not a trivial matter." I even stated that I wouldn't want such a wish prioritised if it was a costly exercise. Hardly unrealistic expectations (but, then, you are prone to hyperbole and appear to have a crush on me, so to be forgiven). I have a question for you though. Forgetting about VW WGR, what do you make of ArchiCAD TeamWork and Revit Worksets (assuming for a minute that implementing such a system in VectorWorks did not significantly raise its retail cost)? i.e do you have any objection to such a system apart from cost?
  24. When I was a kid I had a little girl say something like that to me once. I think you might have a crush on me.
