  1. Hi, I have VW 2009 and Artlantis 2. I do however render the drawings in B/W before export to Artlantis. I have three problems. When I change the perspective to say 35 mm lens the light symbols remain very large. Also the new lens size does not always stick, it reverts to the original 9.75. Can I set this as a new default similar to text size. Cannot find this in any preferences though. How can I switch off the light symbols, whilst they do not print they are a distraction to say the least. Also I am finding the point lights re render when changed but others do not seem to change at all. Thanks David Power Pc 2.5 g Mac Leopard 10.4 9
  2. Hi, thank you for your help Regards David
  3. Hi, I am a relative novice but learning slowly as I dont use VW every day. However I have just upgraded to 2009 and notice that there does not seem to be as many item in the resource browser as in VW 12. I am missing something and should I have left 12 in the applications folder? I mean things like planters and furniture and a range of 2d items such as shower trays etc. Any help welcome. regards David
  4. Hi Cipes, Thank you for the reply. I have Architect 12.5 and the resource browser is full of 2d objects thats the problem they are not 3D ! regards David
  5. Hi, I have been using VW 12.5 on and off for a while now in a 2d format. I have played around with 3d walls and rendering in Artlantis. I need to produce some simple 3d bathrooms and kitchens and need some guidance for 3d items that appear in them. Where can I find a collection of 3d baths showers and basins which I can easily incorporate into my drawings. Thanks David
  6. Hi, and thank you for your replies. Just in case anyone would like the answer I suddenly had a surge of intelligence ! It was the layer fill which was stopping me seeing the drawing below. I had been blocking the view with a white background, so onwards and upwards to the next problem which I am sure I will be back here soon. Is this the right forum for 12.5 ? though? Thanks again David
  7. Hi, I am not sure if this the right forum as its a 12.5 ? However I am trying to find the best way of tracing a scanned sketch in B/W of a ground plan into VW12.5 The sketch is drawn to scale and I would then tidy it up in VW. I seem to remember this was a feature of 12.5 but vcannot find any reference. I have tried having two layers with one only 50% transparent but I cannot see the second layer. I am using jpeg as an image file is that correct ? Any help very welcome. Thank you David
  8. Hi, not sure if I am in the right place for 12.5 Arch queries ! However I am having trouble joining walls of unequal thickness. If I get a series of 180 and say 600 walls to join they seem reluctant to join smoothly and end up as one unit. Is there a trick please? Thank you David OS 10.5 Leopard
  9. Hi Ray, Thanks for that. What did I do wrong? I know the red line is the viewport in need of an update which worked fine. However when I chose "edit crop" I expected the black line box with blue handles to appear. What I was not doing was twanging the box around the viewport to my new crop shape. Thanks for that as I can now move on another step along the way.......... Regards David
  10. Hi Ray, I will try to describe this better. I create a view in the design layer. I make a viewport on a sheet layer and it has the red hatched line and blue buttons around it. I update this in the info palette and all is fine. However if I want to change the crop in the viewport I double click (rt) and the menu apears with edit annotations / crop / design layer. I choose crop and the tool bar shows the edit crop panel BUT the box and blue buttons around the viewport image have gone. There is nothing to get hold of. If I select all nothing happens. If I draw a box in the viewport my original image appears revealed by the box size. The box has buttons and behaves in the way I want it to in editing the viewport. However the box and buttons remain after the edit and show up permanently in the veiwport window. This is not what I am able to do on some other files and viewports. The class selected is none. Any ideas ? Thanks again David
  11. Hi, novice user here but moving in the right direction now ! My problem is when I double click or choose via the right button menu "Edit crop" the buttons and box frame dissapear which removes the ability to use the crop feature. I have tried saving and re opening the file and sometimes it works. This does not happen with "Edit annotations though. Am I right in saying that whilst in a viewport you can edit the crop in there and then ( or annotations if wished) wothout having to go back to the design layer. Anyone have and idea what I am doing wrong ? Architect 12.5.2 OSx 10.4.10 dual 2.5 chip P/PC 3.5G ram Thank you David
  12. Hi bclydeb, yes I did return as it always pays to see if there are other ways of sorting a question. Thats a great way to do it and with classes as well I will certainly have learnt something very worthwhile. Thanks for the time and the help. David
  13. Gytis, thanks for that. There is always a way, its just the angle you approach it from. Thanks again David
  14. Hi, another question from a novice. I am working on a kitchen drawing as a dummy file for practice. How do I work on the far side of the kitchen without having to see through the nearside objects which confuse the image. In other words how can I place myself in the middle of the space to give an unconfused working view. I have tried editing the viewport in annotation mode but it does not work that way round ie wont edit and therefore update the design layer. ( I did not expct this to work as it seemed against the concept of the prog) I am sure there is a way as this is a simple kitchen let alone an office block so your advice would be appreciated. Thank you David
  15. Hi As a novice user I would highly recomend the "Archoncad " pdf and movie manuals. They particulary suited me as I like learning from movies rather than reading. I also found them good vlaue for money against some other offerings. Regards David
  16. Thanks all Have done the double click thing and it work very well. What about this project 2D objects box. What is the primary function of this ? Thanks again David
  17. Hi boxjoint and Dworks. It looks like I am not using the edit vp command. I have just worked it out and tried the "edit viewport command" and I dimension correctly to scale. However any further advice is always accepted and thank you for your interest and time. Regards David
  18. Hi, Thank you for your responses. I will try to explain myself better this time. I have a dummy project to learn about layers/ viewports/sheets etc. The main design layer is 1/4 to 1 ft and in ft inches and the ruler bar reflects that. The front elev viewport ruler bar shows inches ( at full size ) even though the info palette shows a scale of 1/4 to 1 ft. ie If I measure the width of the plan in the design layer it is 27' 1 3/4" If I take the dimension tool and measure this in the viewport it is 6 1/2". If I tick the box 'project 2d objects " in the viewport I can see the original 27'1 3/4 " shown from the plan but it is right up against the elev and not offset like the plan. So I guess there is a ? about "project 2d objects anyway and how do I enter the viewport annotation mode to dimension in the vp ? The ruler tool shows the elevation @ 6 1/2" not the 27' 1 3/4 so I guess you might know the answer to this " boxjoint " Thanks and I hope I have explained this better this time. David
  19. Hi, I have two novice questions please. 1) When I create a design layer floor plan @ 1:50 and then a viewport of ONLY the front ( or another ) view which I have also scaled @ 1: 50, the viewport appears @ 1:1 scale even though I have designated 1:50 in both the info pallette and the layers/viewport browser. What am I doing wrong please? 2) So I have created a plan ( design or mod floor 1 layer ) and 4 separate viewports for each view with the rectified scale issue as above. I have also 4 sheet layers, one for each view. Which one do I dimension, the mod floor 1 or the viewport, or the sheet layer. Also is it normal practice to have all views on one viewport and a separate sheet for each elevation ? Thanks for you help David
  20. Mike, sorry I did not make it clear but I am using Architect. As far as I can see there is a limited number of items in 3D. Many more in 2D and thats my question. I can use Artlantis R reasonably well but you are not rendering all that you draw in VW Arch. as far as I can see. Thank you for the reply though David
  21. Hi, I have been using VW 12.5.2 for a little while and am self taught with some movie style training. I can produce plans elevations and 3D views in V Works and at present want to produce simple 3D drawings of domestic property for a local estate agent. I have produced Renderings in Artlantis R and have 3D objects such as "Dosch" library of bathroom / living room furniture. When I look at the VWorks library most is 2D . My question is what is the best way to produce such a drawing . Do I just do the basic walls and structure in VWorks and drop all other items in at the Artlantis stage. Or is there more to be had from VWorks which I am missing? When I browse the VW /Artlantis/ "Gallery" the work is stunning. Is it all produce at the rendering stage apart from the structure? Thank you David
  22. Both, thank you for your interest. I could mail the file if you wish but its quite large. No I did not use the symbol system as I was learning as I went and this was my first project and was not aware of symbols. The job is done and finished so its not the end of the world but given the problem if I needed to change things then I wondered if there was a clever dick way of doing it. The reason for learning V Works to do this was the daunting task of redrawing over and over again each time I altered the rack dimensions a bit here and a bit there to bet the max case count. Thanks David
  23. Hi I have been using VW on /off since 2001, however I dont use it every day so dont please think I should know the answer to this, however I have recently used it more often. I am revisiting some of my VW 9.5 drawings where I taught myself the basics in order to draw a wine cellar with many wine cases and racks for a project.(Thankfully not having to do it on my drawing board)! I constructed the frames and the wine cases but did not do it using the "Create symbol" way of doing it. I made the frames and then pasted in the 3d cases one by one. I have rendered this in Artlanis R recently to see the improvements and notice there is no gap between the double stacked wine cases. I want to replace these originals with new versions with a gap between ( just to learn something really) . They are not symbols so cannot be changed by editing and replacing, however they are all the same size. Is there a way using script that I can ask VW to "Replace all 3d objects like this with an object like this" Then let VW do the work. I have not used scripts before except a simple "Choose all walls" sort of thing way back in 9.5. Thank you for your help David
  24. Hi, Thanks for the help and I moved forward on this quite well with your help and having played the video training movies on the VW12 site. I have Architect and Fundementals and have two more questions. Is it a fact that I was getting confused with Fundementals and Architect, that in Fundementals I get a "Design layer" and in Architect I get a "Model layer" ( having set this up under doc setup) . So I dont get named Design layers in Architect? Secondly having got viewports working in section and elevations I am having trouble with the perspective V/Port. All views have the same scale and when I ask the persp. V/P to give me a perspective view I get four small square dots. Changing the scale does not seem to give me a view just a slightly different size square but not big enough to show anything. Basically I am trying to have the perps. V/P give me a GL perspective view updated from the model layers just like my success with the elev V/Ports for instance. Any ideas welcome. Thank you for your help hopefully David
  25. Hi, thank you for the tips much appreciated. David
