  1. Thanks for the reply. What I'm looking to do is, rather than have lines take on the properties of the class they are drawn in, have them take on the properties of the class the *symbol they are within* is inserted on. I'm having trouble finding any mention of any feature like this--guess it doesn't exist? Chris
  2. Hi- I'm relatively new to VW, having been using it for about a year. I'm more familiar with AutoCAD and I'm looking to replicate a feature which I used to take advantage of a lot. In AutoCAD, if you put the lines within a block on the 0 (zero) layer, those lines will take on the display properties of whatever layer the block is inserted on. Lines on the zero layer are like plain vanilla - ready to be flavored by anything. In Vectorworks however, objects always retain the properties of the Class they are drawn in. In my workflow this has made things quite difficult - hunting down symbols and groups that sometimes end up in Classes they shouldn't be on is difficult, and implementing viewport overrides is much more difficult, since VW gives VISIBILITY priority to the highest element - the group or the symbol, but gives DISPLAY priority to the lowest - the Class the objects are on originally. If I could only put things in a Class where the lines change appearance depending on what Class their group or symbol is inserted on things would be much easier. Is there any way to do this? Would posting an example help? Thanks Chris
  3. Okay, I solved my own problem. This is what worked: - edit symbol in referenced drawing - change fill color to any different color - change fill color back to original - exit symbol, save drawing - reload referenced drawing
  4. I thought it must be a class issue too, but the fact that I don't have a class in either file that is the color that the symbols are showing up as seems to rule that out. I'm convinced it has something to do with the fact that they are symbols being referenced from another file, and the color palettes are being screwed up somehow. thanks for your help!
  5. Hi, I have a drawing that is referencing another file which has 2D symbols with solid fill colors. The colors of the symbols are showing up wrong in the drawing with the reference. Here's what I've found so far: The color palettes are the same in both drawings, as well as in the symbols, I am not using any classes, so that doesn't seem to be a likely problem. I have 'Use Layer Colors' turned off in document prefs. What else can I check? Thanks!
  6. BTW, I am running Vectorworks 10.5.0 on Mac OX10.2
  7. I'm having a problem with font mapping on one of my machines. It is substituting Arial for Gill Sans every time I open a drawing. It also saves the new drawing with the incorrect font (it never displays correctly again, even on another machine.) How do I fix this? The problem began after I imported a dxf file and substituted fonts, but that shouldn't be a global mapping, should it? Thanks, --Chris
