  1. You can put data tags within symbols - I use wall tags within drawings of apartments that are converted to symbols. The problem is they tend to visually disappear and have to be regenerated which is a P.I.A. I use them as I change wall type designations often but prior to publishing to make them visible (they disappear upon publishing) I create a copy in place and convert the tags to a group.
  2. for large multi-family projects I turn unit drawings into symbols and subsequently symbols for floors. Spaces then lose any text content (will retain colour and shape). Wall tags will essentially disappear (can be recovered by inserting another tag and then 'select all' and changing scaling or anything in the OI and they magically reappear). Symbols will sometimes retain both tags and space information but upon publishing they consistently disappear. I keep expecting this to be fixed but as of SP3 no luck. The workaround is converting wall tags to blocks which is not great and gets a bit time consuming on large projects. Symbol usage is extremely important for this kind of project where units or whole floors are subject to revision or wall type changes. I am hoping there is some simple solution that I have not found. thanks John
  3. it just seems that there is always a workaround and it always involves clicking on everything, turning everything on and off and finally the 4 'R's redo, refresh, relax, reboot (in any order)
  4. Brilliant - thank you. And it makes sense in a cad world!
  5. I do this daily - I export 'hidden line' section viewports as 'active sheet' rather than model - this becomes an acad dwg sheet (figuring that anyone working acad can bring that into a model if they want). Exporting as a 'model' has created some crazy results. I generally review the export in acad to see what gets screwed up. I export fills and hatches as separate DWG layers so they can be turned off as they often don't sit in the background and obscure parts of the drawing... Typically the only problem is text. Am wondering if re-importing to vw to check is what is causing the distortion (the DWG files may actually be fine). Get a DWG viewer to check the result. just ran an export of an elevation 'artistic rendering' and it came out fine as a dwg. GL does not work
  6. when enabling 'extents before cut plane' the grid disappears? Need to show columns and only workaround seems to be to duplicate the viewport
