  1. I agree. A multipage pdf is the output I would expect. Also this fix seems to work on Panther but not Jaguar. Are those of us using OSX prior to 10.3 out of luck here?
  2. compusam You can create a saved view with a sheet layer. Although sheet layers don't appear in the layer settings box you can select it as the active layer (sheet layers are limited to active only). Classes can be set as usual. It would be make sense to do this if you use classes for annotations as they (annotations within a viewport) seem to be independent of the viewport settings which is a nuisance. I have never experienced class settings overriding a viewport and can't reproduce what is being discussed here. Viewport class settings are independent of the global settings - they would be useless otherwise. Are you talking about objects on the annotation layer of a viewport?
  3. I've also had this problem and have mentioned it in the printing forum. Hopefully it will be fixed in an update.
  4. VW11 exports back to version 8 The options are probably not in the Spotlight workspace. Try using the standard workspace or look in the workspace editor.
  5. Go to File>Preferences>VW prefs>Display tab. There is a box called "Display Light Objects". Change the radio button to "only in wireframe" or "never" as suits you. Visible light objects won't appear on prints or exported images.
  6. Katie Repairing permissions seems to have fixed it. Thanks Grant
  7. I'm having a regular problem with every file where at some point a newly created sheet layer will not print the text on it. Text in a viewport behaves normally. It doesn't affect sheet layers created earlier and text subsequently added to earlier layers works fine. It happens with 3 different printers. OCE tds 400 Konica IP432 HP DesignJet 220 However if I create a pdf then all the information is there and printing it is no problem. This made me think its a printer or driver problem. But it happens on all our printers so I thought maybe its corrupted fonts. Same problem on another computer so I wonder if its Vectorworks. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Grant
  8. My understanding is that VW files work cross platform pretty well although I've never tried it myself. The only suggestion I have is that a PC usually requires a suffix so it knows what application to use. Add .mcd to the end of the file name if you haven't already.
  9. The option for setting layer & class visibility of saved views directly from the layer/class setup dialog is a great addition. I use this a lot because I often add more layers/classes after setting up a view. Can we have one for Viewports also please?
  10. Katie, in response to your post here are some thoughts on Vectorworks in general and Viewports in particular. My comments relate to using Vectorworks to produce Architectural drawings. The thing that has always appealed to me about Vectorworks is the flexibility it allows a user in the way they go about creating drawings. I've spoken to people who use layers only, classes only on a single layer, or combinations of both (which is how I work). Some work in 2D only, others use 3D. A strength is the way combinations of layers and classes (saved views) can produce a full set of drawings in one file. It allows things that might appear on multiple drawings to have only a single instance, and therefore saves time, while also enabling revisions to be less prone to error. The (design) layer stacking order also allows great control over the look - e.g text always in front of polygons etc. The first job I did using VW 11 was laid out as I think is the intended drawing structure. Every drawing is a separate sheet layer containing one or more viewports as needed. Now that VW has sheet layers the expectation that users copy every part of a drawing over to a presentation sheet seems an unnecessary duplication to me. This is particularly true for large objects such as floor plans which are likely to require only one viewport per sheet layer. The design layer/class combo is already set up as a saved view, and therefore presentable so why copy it to another (sheet) layer purely for presenting? So in the next job I have only used sheet layers when I'm using viewports - for Elevations, Sections, and Site Plans. Other plans, schedules, and details are presented on design layers. I understand the need for viewports to avoid being self referencing. But the ability to incorporate a viewport on a sheet layer with other scalable sheet layers (that couldn't be referenced to a viewport) as a saved view would be useful to me. For example - Presenting rendered elevations in viewports. Making a single change to an annotation causes the viewport to revert to wireframe. If text could be on a layer above the viewport this wouldn't be an issue. (being able to lock a render in place would be useful too) I realize that I could annotate directly on the sheet layer containing the viewport, but I prefer annotations to be at the same scale as the viewport, for ease of cut and paste to other parts of the drawing if needed. I also find that while rendered elevations are fine for design presentation, when it comes to construction drawings I might want to draw lines to emphasize certain areas, reference the joinery etc. If all this information is limited to a single annotation layer then it can become cluttered. My point is, although viewports contain layer and class information, they are objects in a drawing. Like any other object, a viewport may require additional information specific to it, or for ease of organization be displayed with common items such as title blocks or notes. Having the ability to do this on multiple layers in the same manner as for the rest of the file is a capability I would use extensively. Having said all that, I do like the improvements in version 11 so far, including viewport objects. The implementation of the classic CAD problem of how to display different scaled drawings or views for presentation, whilst maintaining simplicity of modeling has been handled pretty well I think. Thanks for your interest. Grant
  11. I would also like to see this incorporated in a future release, although I think it should be an option rather than a default. It could be implemented with a check box in the document preferences, or batch print dialog with an option like "Apply Page Setup to Sheet Layers"
  12. Thanks for your responses guys. Peter, I will put a post in the wish list forum. I've got a list of suggestions that is still growing as I use Version 11 more. I did think of making a reduced set of sheets but thats just as much extra work as changing each sheet setup. Kevin, I have also previously tried doing a batch print to pdf expecting to get a multi page pdf document. However only the first page was in the pdf - don't know where the others went! So if I can only create a one page pdf at a time, then again there is no time saving. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong. The only way I have successfully created a multipage pdf is in a design layer with the print area set to multiple pages. But viewports can't be presented on design layers....(my major gripe with version 11) I've also opened Version 10 files that were set up with layer/class combinations in saved sheets, and tried to batch print 2 or more copies. Only the first page did the multiple and the rest were single. So I'm also a little disappointed in the batch print tool so far, given its potential. 13. I have just had a client wanting a reduced set of drawings. I've had to laboriously go through each sheet layer and alter its print settings. Is there a way to change all the print property information for sheet layers at one time? Thanks Grant
  14. I've had this happen a few times also. It seems to be a random occurence that happens while working on a drawing (i.e computer "awake") and like you I have to quit and restart VW.
  15. I'm talking about the shoulder not the leader. Shoulder is the line connecting the leader to the callout box. My OIP does not have a shoulder option although the user manual says it should. It can be set in the callout tool preferences but i would like to be able to adjust individual callouts like i could in VW10 through the OIP
  16. My OIP is missing the Shoulder length adjustment box for callouts although it's there in the tool preferences dialog box. I can change its length manually but would rather be able to use the numerical option as described in the user manual. Is this a bug? I'm using VW11 Architect Aust&NZ + Renderworks Mac OS 10.2.8
  17. I've just now had it happen again but to a design layer this time - I have deleted the viewports. So maybe i have a corrupt file here causing the overscaling.
  18. I've had a similar problem. After doing some work on a model and coming back to the sheet layers with viewports on them they have become approx 100 times larger. Text placed on the sheet layer has also scaled. Another time the viewports looked normal. I zoomed in and then the drawing seemed to disappear. When i zoomed out i found that the viewports had become much larger than the page again. This problem occured after creating a second sheet layer. Some of the viewports were annotated. I'm using MacOS 10.2.8
  19. The Australia & NZ version of Vectorworks Architect 11 has this tool. Its called Custom Dashed Line Tool and allows you to put a crossed line or text in the gaps. I haven't installed it yet but expect that it does what you want. Try OzCad to see if they make it available in other parts of the world http://www.ozcad.com.au/
  20. No i don't need an account code. The PCs in our office have OCE print exec which can print pdf and requires an account code. With a mac we bypass this and print directly to the plotter.
  21. I'm having this problem also VW Architect 10.5.0 + renderworks Mac OS 10.2.6 Has it been fixed in VW 11?
  22. Are you using PDF files because you can't print directly from Vectorworks to the OCE? I'm using VW 10.5.0 with Mac OS 10.2.6 to print over a PC network to an OCE TDS400. I was given an OCE printer description file by the PC tech guy to install in the Mac OSX print centre and have had no problems.
