  1. Is there a way to get viewports to wireframe render?

I'm trying to model an existing structure. I've got dxf wire models representing scans from my Disto s910. I wish to measure and manipulate bim geometry in reference to those scans.

Elevation Level Benchmarks attached to story levels seem to only appear in viewports.

So how do I get my viewport to render wirefrane so I can dimension, view, and manipulate everything?

    Thanks,

    Rudy Beuc

  2. The format of *.pat files is so similar to how VW hatches are defined, line, angle, pen up, pen down, displacement, ect, I'm taken back as how there is no direct import option.

    Thanks,

    Rudy Beuc

  3. Over the years I've collected dozens of hatch patterned stored as *.pat files.

Hoe do I import these into VectorWorks?

    Thanks,

    Rudy Beuc

  4. <<Another thing I do a lot is to copy a Section Line, delete it, then it paste in place. This gives me a duplicate unlinked version of the SL which I can do whatever I want with (e.g. move or scale the markers) without affecting either the VP or other instances of the SL. You can then use the 'Linked Viewport' parameter in the OIP to relink it to the VP which means it will take its sheet + drawing number from the VP + will update automatically if you change those details.>>

Later this week I'm going to see if I can monkey with callbacks to get the results you're going for here...

    Thanks,

    Rudy Beuc

  5. Ok, thanks to your suggestion guiding me, I got the desired results. But not in a manner I expected. You were right, but that dashed scope box with the section line had been throwing me for a loop.

Being familiar with and migrating from another BIM software, I expected that scope box (displayed in plan in the illustrations below) to be a hard visual indication as to the what the extents of the viewport would be when updated. Having played with the line, annotations, and crop box, it works as desired now.

I will now ignore that scope box...

    Thanks,

    Rudy Beuc

  6. Is there any way to decouple the length of a section line from the width of a section view?

Had this functionality in a previous software...

I'd like it to appear like this -

    Not like this...

FYI, I got the desirable result shown above by manually drawing the line. That is not a method I really want to implement.

    Thanks,

    Rudy Beuc

  7. I could live with a slow steady sync, just get it all and give me some feedback about progress.

If I could organize it all in individual folders while on the jobsite, perhaps it could upload in digestible pieces.

Right now the situation is untenable.

For me the VW cloud is also hindering in Nomad.

iPhone may be even plugged in to the Mac but you

need to wait for synching it up and back down to Mac.

(And again if you rename or move files)

I would prefer my Nomad output to go directly into iOS Finder.

  8. Just tried to use my Ipad & Nomad again today for measuring up work.

Nomad really needs to be able to add folders and organize information when offline and on the jobsite. I also need better tools for syncing when back and connected. All of the *.HEIC files uploaded but none of the *_gravity.txt files did. Having to do that file by file now...

    Thanks,

  9. I guess it should read "Sheet were Detail Drawn", "First Sheet Where Cut".

These section mark and parameters have been used by my office and family for decades. At least since 1961. It helps navigate through a set of sheets.

Was able to do this automatically in Revit and ACAD

Is there at least a manual way to accomplish this?

    Thanks,

I don't think this is possible plus I don't fully understand why you would want to do this... You want the section line to display information about itself rather than the viewport derived from it? My section lines display the viewport number + the number of the sheet that VP is on: so you know where to find the section VP that the section line is cutting. Maybe I misunderstand what you're saying. Also, sections can be cut on Design Layers of course so what would 'sheet where first cut' display in these instances?

What does 'sheet were drawn' mean? Is that the sheet which the section VP is on?

This being said I've never explored using custom parameters for the marker fields as I've never needed to do anything else but be interested to know what the possibilities are...

  10. Still working on migrating things.

I'm trying to recreate a section label we've used for decades. One of the pieces of information I can't get displayed yet is "Sheet First Cut" in Section labels.

How do I create a custom attribute or field for a "smart marker"?

    Thanks,

    Rudy Beuc

  11. Ok I ended up creating all the gutters and facias using the "extrude along path" method. However I find this workflow very manual, finicky, and very time consuming, and therefore really not desirable.  As a single practitioner, time is a precious resource.

Since the first post, I've noticed that this feature has been asked for for many years. Why It hasn't been implemented, I don't know.

But I do have a second idea that I believe could work just as well. It could also work for other disciplines for other purposes.

It would be a new modeling function called "extrude along picked edge". A profile could be drawn or picked from the resource manager. If picked from the resource manager as a 2d symbol, it's insertion point would be used as the origin for the extrusion. when implemented, one would pick the profile or profile symbol, and then pick a series of edges along a model for the extrusion. If the new path could be associated with the picked edges, the extrusion would adjust position as changes are made to the hose object. A flip x axis and flip y axis option for the profile would be needed for adjustments if the extrusion needed to be reversed along the path.

combined with a shell option this could work great for metal wall copings. This would also work great for curbs, wall trim, and ect...

    Thanks,

    Rudy Beuc

  12. Got all my files sync'd, finally.

Had to go full manual and brute force it with the web interface, my desktop, and my ipad open to check each file individually. Took a few hours.

Tried pushing all the share buttons before that, but that went nowhere.

    Please get this fixed.

    Thanks,

    @rudybeuc@gmail.com,

This issue has been reported number of times and we tried various fixes with no success apparently. 😏 We have a device share option for files that are available locally on the device, so you can Air drop them or share with other methods available on your device. I am sorry you ran into this issue. I will let our engineers know.

You can find the device share option on the three dots menu of the file.

So, this is the only apple product I have. I do not have air drop. Where are these files on my Ipad?

Please relate to your engineers that it would be nice if there was some visible feedback on what Nomad's doing. Is it syncing? Can it see the cloud?

    Thanks,

    Rudy Beuc

    Hi @rudybeuc@gmail.com,

Yes, to create a point cloud with Nomad, you need a device with a LiDAR sensor.

Photogrammetry works with any pictures, even those taken with a drone. Nomad has a built-in app for taking the photos as well. If the photos are taken with iOS Nomad, additional metadata is captured that aids the reconstruction process and helps creating a model in the correct scale and orientation.

Here is a nice course about Photogrammetry and Point clouds from Vectorworks University:

    https://university.vectorworks.net/course/view.php?id=2703

Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

    Best regards,

So I've bought an IPAD and was up on a roof today scanning in all kinds of things. I did not have connectivity and the files were all saved on my I pad.

Back in the office with connectivity and having some difficulty uploading to the VW cloud.

How do I upload/sync everything to the VW cloud?

    Thanks,

    Rudy Beuc
