    Usually i use VW as cad software for architecture.

    I have been asked to design products like lamps and that requires specific plans like spreads (like you take a box or a cone and open it to a flat 2D for manufacture).

    I know that Solidworks does exactly that. Is there a way in VW? maybe the Machine design? It is necessary for transferring to CNC and other plotters...

    set position - not responding

    Im working on VW 2010 architect.

    In previous versions, after inserting a door or window to a wall i could press the "set position" on the info pallet and accurately position the element. Now, the button is not responding. Neither on my station nor on any other.

    Is there a bug? or am i missing something?

    On VW2008, whenever I wanted to open a referenced file while working, I double-clicked the VP-> a dialog box opened and after accepting the original referenced file will open.

    On VW2009 it's not working.....is there another way? or is this a bug? i tried it on different computers.....

    Hi Ray,

    This is exactly what i do. And it usually it works fine on Mac too. No difference between Mac and PC.

    I guess it might be a problem with the specific file... but it's weird that it imports ok on PC and not on Mac.

    So..my question now is - what might be the issue here? maybe fonts?

    (Thank you for your reply. I accept your comment regarding multiply posts, but as you can see i did not receive any response, including "please explain your question". It seems like this specific forum (architect) is the only place to get answers. It's not the first time i post in "dwg/dxf...forum" with no reply for days !!!)

    And as for my question:

    Of course i didn't "open" the file, but did the "import dxf/dwg" procedure (it's also on the topic).

    Now to make it more clearly:

    Import procedure on PC works fine with this specific file. Same procedure on Mac - with this file - does not.

    The procedure is:

    file ->import-> source: one or more files -> choose file -> destination:current file -> Import options: use custom.

    Now - on PC -> i get the custom options window.

    On Mac -> it opens again the "choose file" window, with the list of available dwg files. So...I can not get to the cusom options.

    So, I tried skipping this option, using "use default" and i get a blank file.

    Again - same file on PC imports with no problem at all.

    I appreciate any advice on how to solve this issue.

    I received a dwg file.

    When i open on Mac -

    chose the file -> use custom

    now - instead of opening the options, it opens again the "choosing file" option. Can't get to the custom options.....On the PC there are no problems.....

    I tried the option of "import folder", but then it doesn't recognizing the file...like it's not there...

    Hi Jeffrey,

    Thank you for your reply (i have tried posting in others discussion forums here...but no one answered....).

    This is a major problem for us. We strongly believe in VW and appreciate the beautiful features, however - since VW is not as common as accepted we must cooperate with Autocad users. As so, two way communication is a MUST.

    Recently we shifted our work to 3D and viewports. Again - it works great if it's only an inside work.

    Please advise your "not easy solution" for the mean time...

    We created sheet layers with elevations and section vp. We need to send files to consultants who work on Aurocad . Some of the problems are:

    * Sections opens as an empty "layout" in autocad, with only annotations.

    * Elevations that have been rendered (hiddenline)are imported in AC as wireframe, and they can't render again. (Is there a wa y maybe to convert the layout into polygon "as is" ?)

    Generally the beautiful and organized file we work on can't be read properly on AC. Unfortunately this is a major issue, and we must find a satisfied solution .

    Please...anyone can help?

    symbol report

    Please if anyone can help...

    I entered data inside a symbol, so the report will calculate all symbols.

    should I attach record to all symbols as well? or is it disturbing the calculations????

    Is there a manual for reports other then the VW help?

    questions:

    1. I entered data inside the symbol, which affect the symbol and then being counted in the report.

    There is also an option to enter data outside the symbol. Does that override the original symbol data?

    2. I added a "quantity" field and then in the report the sum function. The report always show one item, summarized. I guess something in the definitions is wrong...but i can't find it...

    OK...got it !!!

    I created fields, entered data in the object info.

    Then created a report. all fields are there.

    One thing missing: I want a sum by criteria , for example a catalog number. how do i add this field??? it gives me a sum of total items, instead of per item....
