  1. I use the make/delete guides command a lot, and find it very useful. However, I would like to see the lifetime changed. It dies after one use. I would like to double click/double key (I use the keystroke) and have the lifetime extend over any number of lines until I am through, then I can turn it off. This would be very helpful when I need to construct 10 guidelines.
  2. Another way to do this is with Quickeys. I hit one key that then lets me select 9 choices. I have set up an English set that goes to the units menu and selects decimal inches, number of decimals, etc. Another set up selects the units menu and goes through a complete metric setup. All in two keystrokes. This is particularly handy when I have to work simultaneously in english and metric units such as optics where all lenses are spec'd in mm, and the mechanical stuff is in inches. 3. I was wary about OS9.0, so I got a new external HD and put it on there. Note that I have an old 6100 with a Sonnet card and 72 MB ram. At first OS9.0 refused to load on the third party HD, but I reformatted the drive with Apple's drivers and it loaded fine. Then came the problems. They were all solved by OS 9.0.4. I run photoshop LE, VW8.5.2, and all the other office stuff with no problem. Oops!, that's not true. The VW video bug still shows up and I have to use 256 colors, but that is NNA's fault, not OS9.
  4. My favorite macros are for arranging items relative to each other (align right/left/top/bottom). Another set does align top-right/bottom-left....etc. The sets consist of two key strokes. The first one pops up a table, then you select from the table of 9 possible values. The number pad graphically shows you what will happen. For example, I use CLEAR to pop up a table, then 7 to align top-left, 3 to align bottom-right, 4 to align left sides, etc. [This message has been edited by cosmiccosmic (edited 10-11-2000).]
  5. Over the past several years I have been quite frustrated at the poor selections VW has for keystroke macros. So, I broke down and got Quickeys. I have programmed so many single and tabular keystrokes that I can't put them all in one post. I am interested in hearing what others have done. Unfortunately, my macros that rely on clicking an icon won't work for anyone else if we don't have the identical arrangement. It would be really helpful if NNA allowed all commands to be included in menus, then Quickeys could get to them universally on any machine.
  6. I have been able to use Quickeys to automate nine choices of text. I choose to select 6,7,8,9,10,12,14 pt size, and geneva, and timesbolditalic12 for my titles.
  7. I have had bad luck with Acrobat/Distiller. All my vertical dimensions are flipped sideways, making them generally unreadable.
  8. Re: Modifier keys. I don't think the matching of PC and Macs is relevant. We only want more modifier keys enabled so we don't have to mess with Quickeys to get our work done. Whether they are Alt on the PC and CMD on the Mac is irrelevant. Also, all commands should accessable by key stroke, and not exclusively by mouse clicking. VW has a great many features. I only use a handful. I am much more concerned that the basic commands do not work well. Joins, convert to surface, dimensions, highlighting selected objects, and many others don't work very well - they frequently misfire. The join command is particularly frustrating. The lifetimes of many tools is wrong. They should die after one click and sometimes it takes much to much effort to get them to work properly. The user should have the option to click once for one shot and double click for sustained life. The dialog boxes that come on for double click could be moved to shift click or something else. These dialog boxes are redundant with the Ohject Info box - you don't need both. The object info box could do all the tasks of the double click dialog boxes. Defaults for lines, arrows, colors, hatches are hard to control. Sometimes they don't set and I have to keep repeating the setup.
  9. I have also had a hard time getting the "convert lines to surface" command to be reliable. Frequently I have to go through the whole perimeter joining the lines. ClarisCad had one command that traced the whole perimeter - it was great! Sometimes, I have had to make several sub-surfaces and then add them together. The surface command frequently does not work if there are other lines inside the perimeter. Then, I have to displace the perimeter lines outside the local area, create the surface, and then displace them back into the correct position. The command also leaves the individual lines underneath the new surface, sometimes making it a pain to get rid of them. I thought there was a switch somewhere that did not duplicate the original lines when making a surface.
  10. The ClarisCad DXF translator mentioned above lets you select a number of files for translation. I have done perhaps 5 at at time. I haven't found any other way to get decent accuracy in translation.
  11. It is true that many VW commands are far inferior to the old ClarisCad commands. The nudging and line cutting/joining commands are particularly poor, but Diehlgraftsoft doesn't seem to care. The shortcut schemes are straight out of the 1980s, and don't allow use of all the modifier keys. I finally got Quickkeys and made a bunch of macros that really help. For example, to align/center objects I hit two keys - one to activate a menu of UpperRight/UpperLeft/CenterLeft/ etc. and the second to pick the option. The number pad works great for visualization of the alignment options. I will be glad to share my QuickKey macro files with anyone who is interested. I must have 20-30 shortcuts. Nudge, by the way, is to hit DEL first, then any arrow.
  12. Try DXF format. Good luck.
  13. Translating Claris Cad to VW8.5.1 can be done directly if you have the original Claris Cad Translator. Simply run it and select DXF file save format. Then import the file into VW.
  14. Re: Barber-pole video. I tried the 256 color setup and the video still broke, but differently. No barber-pole, but the tick marks on the XY scales became double thickness. During a screen refresh, the thing would disappear, only to reappear later. Since it doesn't destroy the window information, it is much more usable.
  15. Re: 3D selector appearing. Unfortunately, it seems to appears randomly, like the barber-pole video, after an indeterminate time. I keep watching for some pattern, but have not found one yet. Re: barber-pole video. I also have VW8.5.1 installed on a Mac 6115 with a G3 accelerator. The video also breaks, but only around the edges, not the main dwg window. Since the video drivers have got to be different, the different response makes sense. It also indicates VW is overwriting something in the video driver area.
  16. I have had the same problem. It is really independent of the memory allocation set up for VW in the About Info box. It has more to do with the way VW uses the memory. The only fix I have come across is to close some drawing files. The action seems to make VW reallocate space.
  17. Here is a list of problems I have experienced with VW8.5.1. Some date to earlier versions. 1. Occasionally the 3D selector will pop up and I have to go to the view window and select plan view. I don't use 3D. 2. Sometimes a line cut through another object (circle, square) will cause the line and object to disappear. 3. In Custom Dimension, the cursor cannot be placed in edit fields for circle dimensions. Using the return key will walk it through until it arrives in the circle dimension fields. 4. The program frequently freezes. The clock won't tick. Sometimes it restores itself after minutes, sometimes not. 5. The text window of dimensions is frequently to small and clips the text, both on the window and in printing. 6. The video breaks frequently, showing a barberpole set of stripes diagonally across the field. Drawing windows, dialog boxes, and edit fields may be affected. The video is corrupted for other programs as well - Netscape, WP, Spread sheets. Only goes away on reboot. Have not been able to identify bad video driver, extension conflict, or other cause. Problem not seen before VW 8.5.
