very pink background with 3D view
Pat Stanford replied to Geneviève Marginet's question in Troubleshooting
Vectorworks Prefereces: Interactive Pane: Click the Interactive Appearance Settings... button. Take a look at the setting for General - Background - 3D Views. Is that set to the Fuchsia color? If so, change it to something more to your liking. -
Yes, you can easily create viewports showing different layers. Select the Viewport. Click the Layers button in the OIP. Set the visibility of layers for that Viewport. Or even better, take a look at the VW Title Block Border object. It is designed to be placed on the Sheet Layer with the viewports but give you the ability to edit the project information across all the TBBs in the file or the Sheet information for just that single TBB.

can you remove storey attributes from walls (help!)
Pat Stanford replied to stevewrightni's topic in Architecture
There are Wall Styles that are Bounded to Stories and Wall Styles that are unbounded. Probably best to redraw your walls using the unbounded Wall Styles rather than try to fix what you have. -
Post the file please so we can take a look. Do you have the data tag set to us the Window record data? Or are you using the Height and Width functions? The Record would be more likely to give the result you want as it does not depend on the screen orientation of the objects.

Why are there stray lines when printing 3d objects?

Mac Only, but the Canon does not have Postscript installed. Configured as an LPD and using the standard Canon non-Postscript drivers. -
Why are there stray lines when printing 3d objects?
Pat Stanford replied to LarryO's question in Troubleshooting
I have no idea what is going on, but I did not have a problem here. It printed just fine on my Cannon 2525 laser printer. No spurious lines here. :-(. But I am on a Mac. Sometimes having something very far from the origin could cause a rendering problem. But this usually requires an object more than 20 kM from the origin and I could not find anything that would appear to do that. The best suggestion I can offer is to submit the file directly to Vectorworks Tech Support and see if they have any ideas. Sorry. -
Does anyone else's edit window look like this?
Pat Stanford replied to A.D.K.'s question in Troubleshooting
Try changing your screen resolution to something small (like 1024x640) and then setting it back. That is a trick I use to bring palettes that have gotten lost off the screen back. Perhaps it will help here also. -
This is the way it is for almost all objects (except for Text objects). Most of them you can specify a Text Style in the OIP, but if you want to change them you have to use the Font menu. And FYI, whatever you set in the Font Menu when you don't have anything selected in the drawing will be used as the default for future objects using text. As to Why it is like this. Most likely it is just that this functionality is really old. I think VW is trying to get away from the built in labels in objects (like doors and windows) and moving toward using the Data Tag for labelling in the future as it gives far more flexibility about what you show.

Can you upload the file so we can take a look? What happens when you check the Draw Edges option in the OpenGL Options? -
Select the Door and use the commands in the Font menu to change the Font, Font Size, and Style.

Is the Arrow Head selected at the bottom of the Attributes palette?
-
Check for an option that says Current View Only. Then zoom in on the part of the drawing you want to print. Or reduce the size of your drawing window is you want it at a typical scale. I think this is the Print dialog box, the Export PDF options and the Publish options.

Curve line extruding issue VW 2021
Pat Stanford replied to rodolphesta's question in Troubleshooting
Vectorworks Preferences, 3D Pane. Set the 3D Conversion Resolution to something higher. Working from memory, but I think: Low=8 sides Medium = 32 High=128 Very High=256 Medium or High are usually your best bet for speed/workabiliyt versus quality. -
Those three modes are in the first Mode Group of the selection tool. The U key toggles between modes in the first group. I Key does the second, O the third, P the fourth group, [ the fifth group. Glad you got it sorted. HTH.

Two thoughts. 1. Did you accidentally turn on the Reshape Polygon tool? An accidental double click on a poly could turn it on. Make sure you have the Selection tool chosen to edit lines and rectangles. 2. Did you get shifted from Top/Plan mode to Top?

Make sure you select the Wall Styles that are not set to use Story data and you might be happier. The Wall Styles that use Story data is called Bounded. Walls that do not use Story data are called Fixed Height.

Class visibilities. Visibilities are set for viewports when they are created. Most people use the setting the new classes are set to Invisible in already created viewports. Use a PIO that uses internal classes (like a Stair), and those classes will be invisible in the existing viewports. Easiest is to use the Organization dialog box in Visibilities mode so you can see all of the classes in each viewport. Select multiple viewports and turn on the classes in all of them at the same time.

If you are using a custom workspace try one of the default workspaces and see if it does the same thing. If it does not, then edit your workspace, remove the Undo keyboard shortcut and reattach it. It is always good to check your custom workspaces in a new version to make sure that you have the latest and greatest tools available.

New With 2021 - Annoying Focus On Origin
Pat Stanford replied to A.D.K.'s question in Troubleshooting
I am not seeing this in VW2021. By chance do you have Unified View unchecked in the View menu? -
Be careful with these. I tried GetPrefString(6906) and it froze VW. The description does not make sense to only be a single pref. If there are four quadrants and each quadrant can have a different setting then you need at least 4 prefs. I actually think you probably need 8 or 12 to define everything that needs to be defined. YMMV

Plant Groups have a single Plant Record record format. But the Plant Record.Quantity for that group is the total of individual plants in the group. But the Plant Record.Price is the price for EACH plant. But since the database header options are SUM (meaning addition), this increased quantity from the Plant Groups does not get accounted for unless you do the multiplication manually as I described above. If you want to use only the auto SUM then you have to select each plant group. Click the Advanced button in the OIP and manually enter the price equal to the unit price times the quantity of plants in the group. If you do that for every plant group then you can use the auto sum. But every time you change an plant group you will need to manually update the Price for the group. Far better to just let the worksheet do the multiplication.

One trick to this is that you actually have to edit the Popup Node to change the text displayed for the different options. I have not looked at it carefully enough to know what you have to do if you want more than three options. Good luck.
