  1. I've been having issues with texture beds today in multiple files... Texture beds are not presenting their class attributes ( neither line type, line color 2d fill, or 3d texture) on the site model. They are showing as a white outline in 3d and a green dot dash linestyle in 2d. I made a very simple test file but still could not figure out what I'm doing wrong. If anyone has the time to download and take a look I would be in their debt... FILE: Texture Beds.vwx
  2. Thanks Pat and Markdd That's what I've been doing, just wondered if I was missing something
  3. Is there a quick way to change a hatch line color / line weight? They don't seem to take on attributes from classes and I don't see color in 'hatch setting', "use local mapping", 'attribute mapping tool', or right click menu.
  4. The sections I just made with the "Section Elevation Line Tool" of show the sections of all the geometry and the site model as expected - but not of the 2D/3D Symbol. For the symbol the section view shows the elevations as if looking from in outside the symbol. Is there a setting I'm missing? Screen Grab:
  5. I tried this too and was frustrated that I couldn't assign zoom. You are probably right that the 3button pen won't help in VW. It is so unfortunate that VW requires three inputs (spacebar+ctrl+MMB) for zoom - plus they added a slight pause after the spacebar and before the ctrl key... just unnecessarily complicated. Pan is just the MMB button. Tumble is an easy ctrl+MMB. They both work seamlessly. Sure would be nice if zoom was just a simple alt+MMB!
  6. It would be nice to be able to right click on the drawing in the 'Open Files' area of the resource manager to make it active. when I have two or three drawings open and with two screens (and the RM on the second monitor), it's a LONG way to go all the way to the tabs on the left hand side of the main screen. And from what I gather, you can't do much in the RM without the file being the active file.
  7. Pat, when I read that I was thinking that it would rotate the view 90° and that could be helpful... ...but rotating the selected object is very helpful!
  8. I just had a polyline fill go crazy on me... waited 38 min and had to force quit. I save every couple of minutes (VW has me scared with all the unexpected crashes) and have "back up" set at every 42 operations, but I still lost creative work.
  9. Wondering what everyone's favorite keyboard shortcuts are. After some weird Wacom "I'll just forget all your settings" issue I'm resetting my tablet buttons and realized I've always had one button left blank. I set my tablet buttons to my most used shortcuts and thought I'd ask what yours are to see if I can fill in this second to last button. Here's my wacom setup: 'Display toggle' just flips me back and forth between my two monitors - I could actually lose the bottom toggle button to a good shortcut too. So what are some of the keyboard shortcut you all use repeatedly?
  10. This is how one works in most other 3D environments - much simpler/cleaner than VW's 'once and locked' mode. Also, not having spotlight, I was disappointed that the renderworks camera didn't have "realworld' lenses and formats. Now I'm jealous that all you Spotlight people do have them - but us lowly Landmark folks are stuck with nothing!
  11. How do I go about using the text tools while typing callouts? Once I'm in the 'edit callout' space I can no longer get to the text menu? I'll be the first to admit I'm not completely consistent in the spelling arena... And I rely a bit to much on spell check. I also like to format text to suit individual situations. I'm currently keeping a word document open on the side when I'm doing callouts, is this the best practice as of now? or am I missing something.
  12. I recently watched a couple of videos making animation paths from polylines. I found it's not nearly as "draw, click and there it is" as the videos make it out to be - but I came to VW from an animation software package. I guess I was used to a bit more camera control. In the end I did get a couple of emailable animations to send to clients in an afternoon... Here are a couple of links: Novedge and Jacob Dale - Creating Animations in Vectorworks 2020 Vectorworks - Walk Through Animations Good luck!
  13. I followed the link and it cleared up. If you DON'T have the link, maybe @Lyuben can help?
  14. @Nikolay Zhelyazkov thank you, I'll give these a shot.
  15. A couple of Data Tag Field questions. Hardscape Tag: I wanted to add 'material' to my 'Name' and 'Area' hardscape tags Any thoughts on how I could extract this? - not necessarily the VW Material - but maybe the 'name' of the top component of a hardscape slab. Wall Tag: I wanted to make a tag that would call out the 'name' and 'material' of tagged wall objects. "Wall" objects do not come up in the 'object parameters' list as an 'object in document'. I grabbed one of the premade wall data tags, but they arren't pulling from wall object, but from IFC Entities. I couldn't find anything connecting the wall objects 'Name' in the 'IFC Entity/IfcWallStandardCase' dropdown.
  16. I'm inputting cntl points from a cad file ( autodesk civil 3d export) I got from a client. It was unfortunately 2D points with the elevation called out. So I'm going around and typing in the elevation (101.09, 100.60, 98.64, etc) - it seems like I'm missing something. I have set my document units to digital feet to match the DWG I still find myself having to: click to set a stake- then move my pointer up to the elevation box on the tool bar- click there- type the elevation- then move back to set the next stake- repeat ad infinitum... I tried hitting tab thinking it would give me a (Z) option - but I'm only getting (X),(Y), (L), and (A). What it's the correct, quick, and clean workflow for adding stakes for creating a site model?
  17. Bug/Issue: If you zoom past a Flyover Origin point VW moves the origin to a random location "on screen" When using the Flyover tool in 'interactive origin mode' you click on a point to set the Flyover Origin. That point stays active until you click another point with the the tool active. You can pan, zoom, and rotate all you want around that point. EXCEPT if you zoom or pan to a location that puts the point 'off screen'. How does this make any sense? Video: Flyover Origin is at the corner of the blue extrude. I click to set the Flyover Origin at the end of the green extrude. I rotate/flyover - the point stays put. I Zoom - the point stays put. I Pan - the point stays put. But if I zoom a bit past the Flyover Origin (even if I still have most of the green extrude in frame) putting it off screen... The Flyover Origin has now relocated to a new point that I did not set. 18. No matter what I do - contour, pad, 3d-poly or grade tool - I can't get the model to make a flat grade at 187' Every time it makes a bulge. or two bulges. or even 5 when I had a connected grades! I want the red line, I get the yellow highlighter: I just need a flat grade under the house and yard at 187' Attached a clean file 2021 with no other geometry or layers in case anyone has any time to look. Can save a 2020 if anyone would like that version. site model bulge.vwx
  19. I'll implement this advice immediately! But seriously VW corporate, are you all aware of this mess? I did a test file last night, clean and nothing else except a couple of slabs and hardscapes. And the hardscapes worked perfectly! ...until I opened their settings to see what was different. The SECOND I touched that menu they would not use class attributes again. And I couldn't cntr-Z my way back either - behavior was just gone. If that's not a bug I don't know what is.
  20. Make the 'Viewport Class properties' menu and 'Viewport Layer Properties' menu tabbed sides of the same menu. When setting up visibilities in a viewport I'm always going back and forth between the OIP button for 'Layer' visibilities and the button for 'Class' visibilities. It would be more efficiency - less clicks and screen changes (with a dual screen setup) - if these much used menus where tabbed sides of a single menu. EDIT: Don't forget to hit the up arrow in the upper left corner so the 'powers that be' will take this seriously.
  21. @Tom W. Will look it over - I'm in the 'still finding best practices' phase of VW - all help it getting things cleaner is helpful!
  22. This is new to me, thank you. I think I was ignoring 'joint pattern' as I've traditionally had a separate class for that and hand drawn the joints as I like them in very specific locations. Will explore this further. This can't happen to soon. Hardscapes are a great tool but they are needlessly complicated.
  23. Tom, thank you for the in-depth explanation. I am trying to use classes this way. I have the slab component set to 'by class' but it does work and still connected to the class I had active when I created the hardscape. Meaning even if I change the hardscape class, it still reflects the class attributes of the original creation class. How do I change this behavior? I've tried 'fiddling around' with render settings as I've read that often - even Tamsin has said that at times.
