  1. I'm beginning to think that, perhaps we are in the minority. Is it possible that 99.99% of VW or VWA users don't have to deal with Y-Intersection walls? If so, these folks are truly blessed and don't know the aggravation that they are spared.
  2. Archken, thanks very much for that tip. I was not aware of that one.
  3. Here's a suggestion: How about your clients downloading the VW demo? Email your files to the clients, they can use the VW demo see it as you see it via all renderings except LightWorksRaymaker. They just can't use the Save function.
  4. Brian O, I've just got to ask... I'm using the new HP-800PS. When printing arch C in the landscape mode, the drawing comes out upside down. That is to say that the roof appears fist. I've spent several hours over the past few weeks with some HP tech support folks working on this. We've had no success and have consummed a great deal of paper. The only plus so far is that they have sent me a complimentary roll of paper. On your 755, if you print in the landscape mode, what comes out first? I'm learning to live with with watching the drawing print upside down, but it's a bit odd and disappointing. What are you guys using for a driver for windows? Thanks.
  5. Richard, Try clicking the white box, which shows the line style and thickness, just above the two silver buttons in the lower left area of the Attibutes Pallet. From there you can click on a line style or a line thickness. At the very top you'll see Set Thicknes. That's where to click to enter a line thickness. Hope this works for you.
  6. Hi Brian O. Thanks for the update. I'd post textures, but have not learned enough VW (yet).... just beginning to learn how to edit hatches. Nonetheless, I'm sure that this feature will be a nice plus for the NNA website. Thanks again.
  7. Hi JorL, Nope, I haven't checked that 2D box. All of these layers are 3D. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  8. Hi, I've got two buildings, A and B, each one with its own floor, walls, and roof layers. These are linked to two model layers, "linked model A" and "linked model B". I can see these models with Show Others. No problem here. Then I tried linking (create layer link) the two models to a final model layer. The handles (locked or unlocked) for the two linked models show up, but no views... nothing... invisible. The scales are the same. This layer is at the top of the layer stack. It its visibility is Normal. It is Active. I'm stumped. Is there something simple that I'm forgetting? Thanks.
  9. I knew I should have added more info to my msg a few days back... Would there be a way to extrapolate the wireline rendering time required to render and use it to offer some idea of how long it would take to render in the more time-consuming modes? User has rendered in wireline, process time is noted internally. Program estimates the rendering times for the other rendering flavors. User renders in Final Shaded Solid. Estimated time remaining shows in a little window next to the current progress window. Would this be feasible? Thanks.
  10. Perhaps we are we talking about an architecturally-oriented "replicator" here...... the only replictors I've used, I've had to talk at. But a thought-activated architecturally-specific replicator would be very handy, particularly if one had a sore throat. How about VW 10.1.0 with nanotechnology?
  11. Perhaps this has been suggested before? Is this possible to implement? Would there be a way to include a progress bar? It would offer an estimate of time elapsed/remaining, in the case of rendering, along with a responsive way to interupt and terminate the render process other than the current (ctrl .). Thanks. ------------------ Thomas Ames trsystems@wir.net
  12. Well, you make it sound easy enough. Could you elaborate a bit on what you mean by: The link that says "UBB Code is ON" has more instructions. Where is this "link" that has more instructions? Oops, nevermind... I just "noticed" that link to the left of the reply window that I'm typing this msg in. I'll go have a look. Thanks.
  13. Antone, thanks for your suggestion... the arc by tangent does a nicer job. Also, in two sections, it makes the nice curved line that can be terminated with an open looped end that can be used to encircle a cable or pipe, etc. This is getting better.....
  14. Hi Archken, I've been wondering how you inserted the "walls drawing" in your msg in the wish dept back on 8-19-2000. This seems like a very useful technique and I'll bet others would enjoy knowing how as well. Thanks p.s. The "wall joins" contine to entertain... ------------------ Thomas Ames trsystems@wir.net
  15. Well, Arc Tool(3), Arc by Three Points seems to do the best (graceful) job. I seem to recall Architectural Desktop R1 (autocad)doing a better job in this dept. But, with some practice this should be fine. As for the flipping phenomena, I haven't had the occasion to use the function. Sounds a bit scary though..... Caleb, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
  16. Is there a way, using attributes, to put an arrow on the end of a graceful, curved line. I've tried using the Polyline Tool(5) to get some graceful pointing lines, but I can't get an arrow to stick. I can put an arrow at the end of a straight line, but this seems a bit limiting. Is anyone else having better luck?
  17. Well, this is a curious thread. It is disapointing to not see a forthright response from NNA. I tried autocad for a little bit. I went with VW 8.5.1 instead... and I agree, the wall join behavior is really twinky. I'm thrilled to see that I'm not the only one to feel this way. Perhaps more users will gather to voice their dismay and NNA will come forward with a solution. ------------------ Thomas Ames trsystems@wir.net
  18. Hi Caleb, Thank you for your msg. I've since learned that the brand new, loaded alpha, at a great price, may have a bad mother board. Since replacement mother boards are hard to come by, it is back to square one. We will likely build from scratch... around 900MHz with a gig of fast ram a 133MHz bus and two 30 gig drives.
  19. Hi, Would anyone know if VW and RW will run on a DEC ALPHA with Windows 2000? I'm trying to get more (much more) memory bandwidth for rendering. Also, I'd like to find out if VW and RW are ported for Silicon Graphics? Thanks. ------------------ Thomas Ames trsystems@wir.net
  20. At last, the new HP printer has arrived... D and E are now possible! I'm trying to come up with an attractive cover sheet... format, fonts, etc. Short of hanging out at the service bureau some 60 miles away, I just don't get to see cover sheets. Would anyone be willing and able to share an example or two? ------------------ Thomas Ames trsystems@wir.net
  21. Hi everyone, I'm still very new to all of this. I really appreciate being able to read the various suggestions and experiences. Boy, that's a hunk of time. I had no idea! Now, back to the "on the boards" section to poke around Thanks for the help.
  22. Hi MikeB, I'm curious. I'm a windows guy. I assume that your G4/500 is a 500MHz machine. How long is forever (roughly) for rendering with your setup? I've only got 350MHz, but will build a FAST machine this winter. So far the longest render time for me is a little over a minute.
  23. Hello, I just happened to notice this department... the recent date caught my eye. The thought of being able to dynamically trade or find symbols/textures for VW and or RW is so useful and exciting. I glad to see that the idea is still alive and actually being considered
  24. Hello MikeB, I'm looking forward to being able to make movies with RW. You say that the dynamic version is too big to post. I'm wondering... what size becomes or would be too big? Nice movie
  25. Hi CADD Nark, that's a nice movie... gives me something to aspire to as I learn VW. I wish I could see the uncompressed version.
