  1. Quick question..... When I try and export a QT VR movie - Panoramic, it tells me that it needs to be rendered and in perspective? But it has perspective, and it is rendered as a Final Shaded Polygon. It will give me a very nice movie when it's rendered as a Custom or Final Quality Rendering.... Can I create this QT movie while it's a Shaded Polygon? Sometimes I want just the white fill, and nothing else. This is still another excellent upgrade for Vectorworks... Adam P
  2. That's was my problem 5 years ago. Not today. I have walls, windows, symbols, 3D platforms. It renders fine in another modes...such as Custom Render, Artistic, GL...... Not Unshaded polyson
  3. Trying to get an assignment out, and looking to create a unshaded polygon rendering. No shadows, just lines and 3D model rendered. There assignment is to rendering in lighing for the scene. But everytime I try to render, it doesn't. It says it does on the menu bar, but the same image is kept on the screen. Just updated to 11.5 yesterday...... All classes are on and active. Help!!! Thanks, Adam
  4. I agree with Jonathan, clients or in my field stage directors, get too flustered with nice renderings that look too complete for the early stages of the design process. They think 'this guy has spent too much time and effort into the design, I hate to ask him to change it....' While it has taken me no time to create a 3D model with true textures... And I hate that too, since I want to purse the look more. Now they see that it's in the 'sketch' phase of the process, and think that's it's not complete..... Another addition to a great program. Thanks, Adam P.
  5. Hi, Thanks for the answers. The odd thing is... Even when I convert to group with the lighting symbols, it still comes up as 'Quadratic B-Spline' error, but they will get exported if I ungroup the converted symbols into lines... Odd. It must be easier if I'm exporting directly into AutoCAD. Since I'm looking to export a DWG and then import a DWG into MacDraft, there is another conversion step involved. But it eventually worked. Thanks all, Adam
  6. Hello All, Has anyone had any troubles exporting a file into DWG or DXF, and then trying to import as DWG/DXF into Macdraft? I am trying to go from Spotlight 11 into Macdraft that way. Everything exports acurately enough, except for the lighting symbols which don't come out at all. There is an error on the Macdraft side - "Quadratic B-Spline source found, they will be deleted" (or something of that sort. Any help, Thanks, Adam P

  8. Just upgraded to Spotlight 11 with RenderWorks and looking to see if it's possible to animate motion video projections scenes thru RenderWorks? I know that you can project still jpgs thru the gobo projection tools, but can that image be a quicktime movie or avi......something that is motion? Very happy to upgrade to Spotlight 11.....haven't had time to go into depth with it yet. Adam P. Set & Lighting Designer,
  9. Here's another.... Is there a way of making an object a light source? ie. Trying to render a scene that has sconces, and lighting those sconces. or....rendering an open bulb....or a marquee.... Any suggestions? or can we do this? Thanks, Adam P
  10. This is a question for the designers here. I am trying to create a backdrop / scrim in 3D form that looks like a sail of a tall ship. I've figured out how to create a nurb curve for piping, but can't figure out how to create the fabric element of the sail. I'm looking for this to be curved in plan, and curved in sideview....think of a picture of a tall ship on the high seas with the wind in it's sail..... Any suggestions? Thanks, Adam
  11. Is there a way to tracing or import or convert an eps outline drawing into a single-line polygon??? What I've come up with time and time again, is needing to trace a scanned in image of a hand-drawn tree. I then import the jpg/pict version on my drawing and trace by a single line polygon. Is there any way to convert an eps format hand drawing into a polygon line. Anytime I import an eps...it just comes out with a boundary box, and not the actual lines... Any suggestions or solutions. Thanks, Adam
  12. Trying to get up to speed with Spotlight 9. I'm trying to indicated on the plot and database worksheets that an instruement has a gobo alloted to it. As by putting a symbol.... a line in classic drafting.....in the instrument. How do I do that easily? And can I specify a name for the gobos???? Basics...... Thanks again, Adam P
  13. Thought that might be the case. Much appreciated. Adam
  14. Looking to send VW files via email to other VW user, but don't really want to encapsulated the file into a EPS or PDF. Other than sending your fonts with the file, or hope the other person has your fonts....is there any way to maintain the fonts in your drawing. Presentation is half the battle.... Adam P.
