HEY @jeff prince,
Have you tried using "Extrude Along Path"? I find it useful for creating specific profiles and paths, both of which can be edited at anytime. See attached file and let me know if you have questions. Start from the top and work your way down. I've included two options for getting the bullnose effect.
And for Extrude Along Path objects you can pull LF into worksheets if that helps.
Sorry, but that's a very lame way to respond to consumer requeriments,
-"I want a simple thing on a Wall"
-"Sorry no can do, try an half baked solution to fake the result"-"But all other BIM apps do it!"
-"Sorry about that, but Vectorworks can't do, too complex"

Copying a wall and then pasting it above the other is basically taking a step backwards.
I cannot believe "made up" solutions for an expensive legitimate BIM package is still required.
I totally agree with you, all of the major BIM apps have this option for, like forever, sometimes I wonder if Vectorworks is even trying to compete with them, even in the videos Vectorworks shows the benefits of Vectorwoks agains Autocad, a CAD software! or with Sketchup! Seems to be embarrased to do one showing off against any real BIM software!
Stacking walls in Vectorwoks: Keep dreaming!
Change control in Vectorworks: Not a chance!
MEP in Vectorworks: Who does it ?
Pivot doors in Vectorworks: What's that?
Real projections of objects in Vectorworks. Ha!
And I can keep going....

Sadly, Vectorworks is mostly use for solo practitioners or very small firms, in the US is very rare to find large firms using Vectorworks, even in New Zealand, once Vectorworks was widely used, now most firms use Archicad, even long-time Vectorworks evangelist Jonathan Pickup is teaching Archicad and moving away from Vectorworks

This is great!
Awesome work!!!- 1

Well, the stacked walls have been requested many times over the years, yet nothing... big surprise

Tom W that is what I am looking for. I have been playing with the roof faces however having trouble making the roofs meet right. Thanks all for the responses. 🙂
If they are Roof Faces, use the Connect/Combine tool to connect Roof Faces

Dont use the old Custom Stair in recent Vectorworks versions, will corrupt your file, usit only as reference and then ungroup it

I have a slab which shows up fine in plan and used to show up fine in 3D. Now all of a sudden it disappears when I switch to a 3D view. Any ideas? Is this a glitch in the new service pack that I just downloaded?
Check if the classes of the components are turned on in 3D

Maybe as some of them suggested you should explode the object, lose all the attributes, and texture it
-
The new Beam tool started with a lot of promises, but under delivered and let it to rot, you can even get a proper quantity take of from them, and the texturing is lame.

Yes, the section line instances only works in Plan Views, the tool is still half baked, you will have to put it manually

I hope so, but assumes the file format stays the same for a long time. Photoshop has been able to make this work.
Photoshop has a bigger user base, Vectorworks use is dwinling in my country, so I don't see how things are going to be from now on
-
So in sake of time is better to explode every "parametric" object to texture it properly? like the textures on hardscapes or in slabs? so is better to ungroup the geometries and texture them for the sake of time ? so Vectorworks is another Sketchup?
I'm glad I don't do my renderings in Vectorworks... -

And that forcing us all into a subscription model isn't the only or necessary way to address that. I don't have an argument with what you said. The relevance of SS is that having additional technical support is useful for many people but it doesn't deal with these fundamental issues. Giving subscription users access to Service Select (which has been presented as a benefit of the new model) doesn't mean that these fundamental issues will be resolved. It will be nice for some people but of no use to others.
That's correct, they keep pushing new features leaving the ones that matter shelved, take the horizontal section Viewport, is still half baked, the stair tool, no stacking walls, and so on and now the susbscription only scheme.

As long as it’s Nemetschek 😉Well, yes, unless Autodesk bite the bullet and release a Mac version of Revit, and then that's all for the rest 😂

Seems Vectorworks is pushing the faithful users to Archicad, that's the only one with perpetual licenses and a MEP solution for small firms... thank you Vectorworks.

So the texturing is still so bad you had yo destroy your plug-in objects to be able to texture them?
What a waste! -

Hi @Christiaan,
thanks for this post.
2 years ago, when I first read this post, I was happy to see that I was not the only one to wait for Windows/Doors tool improvements. Today, I see that we are still here… which makes me less happy.
Your list looks like it is the most complete I’ve seen on this forum.
Would it be possible to add the following wanted features in your list ?
- level of insertion following the story level
- 3 and 6 panels sliding windows
- possibility to set different class / attributes for viewed jamb and sectioned jamb
- possibility to set a Rabbet X/Y for doors and windows (including sliding windows)
- materials
Kind regards
You can try the WinDoor plug in, is free now, it has a ton of configuration for doors and windows, put our native window and door tool to shame

How can I intelligently create a BIM model in timber frame construction
Thanks
P
You can use the ancient Wall Framer command, but if you are looking for a parametric way to do it, like in any other software out there, you are out of luck, you will need to do it by hand, and remodel it every time the desing changes, wasting a lot of time in the process.
Even sketchup has a great tool for wall framing- 2

The www.vectordepot.com page don't load anymore....
Has anyone have the plugin now? -
Sadly, the website don't load anymore, other platforms have tools for this situation, in Vectorworks we still have nothing

I am coming from a Revit background trying to transition to an office that uses Vectorworks for BIM. I am trying to create a simple wall that has a exterior facade of 2' brick base, 5' of storefront windows and then transitions to another material above the storefront. What is the best practice to do this?
Another year has passed and our wall tool in Vectorworks stil don't to this basic function, all the other BIM apps out there are are doing that for years now... lets hope someday in the future, maybe in the 2030 version?

The HVAV tools are very poorly implemented and negleted in Vectorworks, you should try to model it yourself

Sadly, Vectorworks has neglected those areas for Architects and Landscape Designers, so no luck over there....
