  1. I only said, that referencing lost a little importance in Vectorworks since project sharing somehow. (for reasonable thoughts of course) however, both, project sharing and references are useful tools, in my opinion.
  2. you mean, by referencing? the usual problems in referencing... I honestly restarted working with vw in mid of march...
  3. another issue would be referencing stories. I can imagine that there seemed to be no more need, since project sharing.... however, project sharing imho doesn't totally replace referencing...
  4. ... everytime I reopen the Datamanager, the settings switch back to "document settings" or "basic settings" ("Grundeinstellung" in german) however, I forget, wether I overwrite my last datamanager set or I work in an old preset... the hole set-handling is confusing
  5. hi, as far as I understood the data manager now does take an important role in the Vectorworks Bim workflow. In fact it offers great possibilities in optimizing a project's BIM-workflow. However, everytime I apply some changes to the data-mapping settings, the actual Data-Manager set switches from the last saved to "actual settings". Each time I want to save the settings, after having them modified, I have to insert the Data-set name manually. That's incomfortable for two reasons. 1) I would prefer to see a list of possible data sets, I already saved to be able to chose a set to overwrite instead of having to rewrite the set name everytime I apply some changes to the data mappings 2) the bigger problem is, that, the more I have to rewrite the same "data-set"-name, the higher is the probability, that I either some writing mistakes or I maybe lose some settings... However, the way Data Sets are stored in the data manager now is not 100% practical.
  6. the "never" option is a little bit misleading. In Fact, the first option does undo all steps and the last one. A real option for "Never" would be great.
  7. slabs are a great tool for designing floors, ceilings,... To align a slab or a floor type it is possible, aligning it to a story-level-layer-height. However, drop-ceilings are still hard to align that way, due to the fact, that a slab isn't alignable to the story-level-layer-height ABOVE the actual story. WHY?

  10. the upper file is the file, which comes directly "out of Vectorworks" and doesn't have a suffix
  11. nope, that's not the problem. I checked the settings. As you can see on the screenshots, the suffix is missing and it's not the finder-setting, which causes the suffix to disappear. However, a hidden file-suffix would however be recognized by the operating system. So, double-clicking the ifc-file would change the file-icon and automatically open the file in the preferred ifc-application. Both doesn't happen in my case. As you can see in the screenshot, macOS asks me whether I want to add a file-suffix or not.
  12. nope, I can switch between "ifc", "ifc zipped".... however I always need to add .ifc manually. Vectorworks doesn't do so by itself.
  13. this might be a wish, but, however, I first try to post the issue here: I'm working with Vectorworks 2020 SP3 on Mac (10.12 - Sierra) Everytime I try to export an ifc-file I need to add the *.ifc-suffix manually. Why? is it the same on Windows, too? Also macOS needs the ifc-suffix too be able to connect the file to my models-checker,... Solibri...
  14. resources in the German (Italian, French...) resource browser (as you can see in the first screenshot) are not in alphabetical order. Instead they're organized by the alphabetical order of their English original names. Could you please help all people who translate these names and give them the possibility to rearrange the order of this list?
  15. during the design process walls, slabs, roofs not always keep the same thickness. Instead sometimes there can happen some changes. However, you often still keep the same wall/slab/roof-styles to design the building, you just modify the thickness of the bearing wall component, of the outer insulation,... However it's always necessary to note the total thickness or the thickness of some components in the style name, so everybody in the design-team can find the wished style easily. The problem is, that you have to fill in the changed thickness always more than one time. This can also cause some mistakes. The best solution would be, enabling the resource browser to show the total wall thickness and all component sizes as well. So, somebody also for example could change the order of the displayed walls by their specific size.
  16. Hi, stories now exist since Vectorworks 2012. The system has been improved successively and got much better. However, the setup-interface is as complicated and wooden as in the beginning. That's one of the points which revit did solve in a way more intuitive and simple way, just, the vectorworks-way, I would say. In Revit every Section view of a building model, which does contain storeys (and, in fact nearly every model does) contains also elevation markers. Every elevation marker represents one story level. You can create them by clicking, move them graphically and arrange them, just by drag and drop. In Vectorworks I am sitting in front of the organization window and I often need to use the calculator, just to modify some storey levels. Why so complicated? Thanks for your attention

Hi there, The new advanced Data Manager in Vectorworks 2020 offers better and more advanced possibilities to control ifc-psets directly with the info-palette window on Vectorworks and gives the user the possibility to manage the project in a direct and individual way. One of our ideas for example is, to control some psets directly with the object-stylename. We want to organize a style name in more parts. 1) (WA=Wall, ST=Stütze=Column,...) 2) A=Aussen(outside); I=Innen(inside) 3) TR=Tragend(load bearing - yes); NTR=nichttragend(load bearing - no) .... 2) if([Style.Name]='WA*','TRUE','FALSE') - doesn't work if([Style.Name]<'WA-I','TRUE','FALSE') does work 3) if([Style.Name]='*TR*','TRUE','FALSE') doesn't work if([Style.Name]<'WA-A-TR','FALSE',if([Style.Name]<'WA-I-TR')&([Style.Name]>'WA-A-TR-Z-999'),'FALSE','TRUE') does work My question: Why doesn't any of those wildcards ( * ) work? Is there an alternative function, which allows me to get every wallstyle-name which contains a specific part of a predefined name? (like described in option 2) or 3)?

  19. that's an option, of course, however it does imply a lot of handwork, and the less "handwork" I have to do, the more I prevent doing mistakes, and spending time 😉 it's a job to me, which could be done automated more quickly and efficiently
  20. We actually are reworking on our class-organization in the office. There are a few ways to batch-rename more than one class in Vectorworks, for example by using an excel-generated tab-stop separated worksheet/text-file... However, every way I try does not solve an important issue: Renaming different classes into the same class-name unfortunately doesn't work. However, simplyfieing our class structure is one of the main goals of this task. So, does anyone have an idea how to accomplish this job most efficiently and easily? For example a script, which deletes all classes with the appendix *-2, *-3, *-4... and moves the class-content to the * called class... could be an idea, somehow. However I'm not sure if it really works... thanks a lot!
