  1. Or working with the Vectorworks Datamanager??!? let's say, the we define a field in a record format which subtracts the design layer cut plane elevation from the height above layer elevation for all objects. then we define a data vizualization that defines that all objects with a value bigger than 0 have to be drawn with a dashed line type (unless you don't put off a checkbox, that defines, that that object has to be drawn with a solid line, despite of the fact, that it's situated above the layer cut plane). could be worth an approach... However, I am curious on what @MBruno-JDB answers on our questions 😉
  2. @MBruno-JDB which "series of filters" are you talking about? What you say sounds really interesting, however I don't get it because it's still to abstract 🙂
  3. @Jeremy Best so my boss will have to live with the risk of graphics errors every ~4-6 months until he buys a new MacBook? 😉
  4. hugh, now I am curious, how I could "reset" or "reinstall" the graphics card driver. On windows I would be able to reinstall the graphics card driver without any problem, but on mac? i will try to google.
  5. @Jeremy Best I actuallay am not sure wether it's really been a Vectorworks issue. 1) it occured suddenly without any warning. At all I can't reproduce that issue 2) it occured on both, main screen and second USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 screen 3) the display problems have been all over the screen (not only vectorworks) So I am more afraid of a hardware issue than sth else. However it does only happen one time in let's say 6 months?!? Maybe I will reask wether my colleague only opens 2D files, how big the files are, he is working on... still misterious...
  6. however I'm happy, there won't be a ribbon like surface in Vectorworks like in MS Office, Autocad or Revit for example
  7. sth like in the evolvelab plugins, for vw would be great... Somehow it makes me wanna try it in revit!
  8. @zoomer which really useful benefits does macOS Sonoma bring in your opinion?
  9. btw, that's not an "umlauts" issue. The files we save and the folders in which we save files sometimes may contain "umlauts" like äöü but they don't contain them always...
  10. Hi, we have massive problems saving files from vectorworks "as copy" on afp and smb shares. First we worked with a Mac Pro 2013 machine as file server. On the mac there's been running a macOS Sierra Operating System with the server app. The sharing protocol has been afp. In ˜April we switched from the mac Pro to a QNAP Raid System, which we actually use as file server. Now the network/share protocol is SMB. However, very often when I try to save a file "as a copy" (and also in other cases which I actually can't reproduce that easily) and I didn't save copies in that directory for a couple of hours, I get the Finder-error-message "The document or location is read-only (read-only). Please change the permissions and then try again." (like in the screenshot) VW however does save a document, but the document size in that cases is 0kB. When I redo the step, very often VW does overwrite the file with a working one. I actually am not sure wether that might be a MacOS issue, a SMB issue or a QNAP issue (however, we had the same problems with afp on the mac Pro as well) Now I'm clueless. Do you have any idea? thanks and best regards, Matteo
  11. why not use the Marionette Node tool technology for a Mindmap tool? (i meen, it's just connecting nodes without any code) could be a really low hanging fruit. maybe it could be a marionette node itself?!?
  12. @Pat Stanford yeah, I already was afraid, you would say something like that. Data Visualizations don't work as PIOs or Resource Objects, so, there is no way to manipulate them with a script. So, we will have to do that work manually and wait for a bugfix... 😞
  13. Hi, actually VW sometimes has problems with it's data visualizations. Our german helpdeskt already told me, to refresh the data visualization manually, by switching a color back & forward and than leave the dialogue. That works, but, for more than 2 Daza Visualizations it's getting more and more complicated. Isn't that possible with a a Vectorscript or Python script? Hopefully, that there is a way. 🙂 Do you know a way to refresh all Datavisualizations with a script? AFAIK Data vis aren't PIOs, so I am afraid, that that won't work. Or, am I wrong? best regardas, Matteo
  14. don't know if it's true but my issue feels more like a hardware thing.... However the MacBook still is running. (however it can't be a flexgate issue because it's happening on the external screen as well..., feels more liel a graphics card/gpu issue)...
  15. hugh, sounds quite, overeleborate and exaggerated. However a Trinary Boole would be a good thing for that situation. But, as you said it, that issues can be solved with a workaround as well.
  16. As we are BIMMing and dropping informations in models I recently am thinking about how information is handled and should be handled inside projects and also inside projects which are developped and maintained by more than one person. Mostly important is the question wether objects already a value already has been applied to an object or not. When it's about string or numeric values it's all fine. No information means sth like "don't know" or "not defined". Also it's possible to define a standard-value inside a record format. Sth like "n/a" or "tbd" or "to be defined". A very appealing variable-type is boole. However, boole does only offer "yes" or "not". An option for "tbd" doesn't work there. Sure, a dropdown-menu would/could be the solution, but, why not implement a nullable bool variable in VW? what do you think @Pat Stanford?
  17. @EdwardMatthew thank you for your honest statement 😉 I'm not sure what to think, specially because we actually do use a quite complex data manager setting and basically it does work quite well. However sometimes we still have stability issues, but sometimes we also don't. I'm curious in which way the Data Manager has an impact on VW stability and performance and how I can optimize the datamanager code.
  18. For reallly big curiosity, we really love working with the Data Manager in VW. We really do code mappings inside the DM, which are a little bit more complicated. We still don't see wether the Datamanager could cause problems inisde Vectoworks. So my question: Is the Data Manager able to cause performance and stability problems in Vectorworks? And, in which "intensity"? What is your experience? Which technical background info can you tell me/us to that question? thank you! best regards.
  19. Hi, a simple search & replace command for code would be great. Obviously you risk damging the code using an external editor for editing the xml file (ike visual studio code or similar) So, a search & replace function would be quite great!
  20. I already mentioned it on Jira, all Adobe apps and also all Affinity apps do it. If you run the app and hold the "Alt"/"Option" key after clicking on the "Vectorworks" Icon I get an Options List, which asks me, which part of the user folder I want to have reset. The user folder is a big thing when there are problems in VW. And, it's a big thing for all helpdesk guys who support their users. So, why not make the step easier by enabling to reset the whole user folder or special parts, just with a shortcut? It would make a supporters life much easier. (the attached screenshot shows all affinity photo options after running Affinity Photo while holding the Alt key, just as an example)
  21. tried to disable pop-up blocking in chrome. That didn't help it 😉
  22. actually we're using a qnap system, we recently switched to. some colleagues still did have reliability problems. Title blocks and dimensions have been suddenly disappearing from one commit to another (VW 2021). We don't work in project sharing via VPN (we tried to but, acutally we don't, from the beginning I tried to make the teams work via dropbox, which worked quite ok) We use the project sharing server mainly to be safe from afp/smb issues, also the qnap storage fortunately only supports smb and newer mac operating systems (Big Sur, Monterey) seem to have a better smb-system working) However I honestly never really have been satisfied from project sharing. However how we are using it, there's always some lag, some data missing, some bug (in 2022 there has been a data-visualization/opacity problem which caused, that opacity from solid fillings hasn't been transmitted to the project file). There's missing some kind of quality assurance-system in project sharing. PS is cool but it always feels like a system which still can cause some unexpected problems, also in VW 2023.
  23. no, the link does take me to the general road map page (I am using chrome, i tried the link with firefox and safari as well):
  24. @Tom W. @Matt Overton so, i will keep my fingers crossed 🤞. Sounds interesting
