  1. What would be the best way of creating Entry Gates and Ramps in Vectorworks Architect?
  2. Is it possible to see the hatch associated with the material in 2D Plan view? I know we can see in hidden line mode but what about basic 2D Plan view and Elevations?
  3. after waiting for an M1 iMac for almost 8 months, I finally couldn't bare my slow iMac 21.5 2015 and decided to get a new iMac. I got a mid 2020 iMac 27 the mid range model and bumped up the RAM (via amazon) to 32 GB. So much relieved now that Vectorworks works pretty well! I can use this for the next 2-3 years until Apple and Vectorowkrs achieve a proper transition to the new technology, and would definitely buy the newer M2, M3... model when available in future.
  4. While I'm following this post, I've a 21.5 inch 2017 iMac which I'm running out of patience with, and waiting for the new M1 iMac, hopefully if they release next month. If the new iMac doesn't come out next month I may just go ahead and buy a MacBook Pro - 16GB, 1TB. I think anything less than 1TB would be really questionable in terms of space. It will be expensive to buy a MacBook Pro as I'll also have to buy a 27 inch LG ultra fine display.
  5. I need a new computer, but not desperately. I've decided to wait until mid-2021 before buying. The recent reviews of the MacBook Pro M1 seem too good to be true, so I would better wait and then decide! Also noticed that the Big Sur update has marginally improved the speed of my 21.5 inch iMac with 1tb HD. Its not great, but I'm just learning patience.
  6. @Kevin McAllister thank you KM. I'm glad I'm on this forum.
  7. @Pat Stanford Hi Pat, do I need a high end graphics card for 3D modelling, Or is a graphics card just utilised for rendering (I don't do any rendering)? I will definitely go for a i9, after your and also @designedAF recommendation.
  8. @designedAF does the machine take time to start after you power it on? And is the starting time of Vectorworks be better than my current 2017 21.5 inch iMac? If I go with a 2020 I would max out the specs. I think I made a mistake buying a cheaper one in 2017. Thank you for your response as a first-hand user. it really helps.
  9. Hi all, Could you please advise me a good Mac I could buy within the next month? Should get the iMac 2020 27 inch, or wait for the silicon iMac? MacBook Pro is not an option for me because of the tiny screen. I currently use a 2017 21.5" iMac (not a very good Mac). it is disappointing me with Vectorworks taking 5 minutes to start. Everytime the computer is turned on it takes about 10-15 minutes to start property. Once it gets going, it is still okay, but I occasionally see the coloured spinning wheel. I'm a sole practitioner architect, so need a fast and a reliable machine for multi-tasking. I do 3D modelling, but no rendering. Your help will be appreciated. Thank you.
  10. I mainly do urban design work, with only 2D drawings most of the times and Vectorworks is so good with that type of work with dual control using layers and classes. I have just started doing some small architecture jobs. And this is the first time I'm exploring drawing in 3D. You're right. I'll need to be more patient! 😄
  11. @Boh thank you for your quick reply. I feel limited by this software whenever I try to draw in 3D. Hard to customise - stairs, ramps, windows, brick courses, brick fences, outdoor, entry gates, etc.
  12. Hi Michael, I think you might have answered my question. I should have used "Windoor" only for the full-height openings. And the other openings should be "Windows" rather than "windoors"! I'll let you know how that goes.
  13. for Michael K.vwxHi Michael, thank you again! I've attached the file to this post. its only 14mb.
  14. Hi Michael, I have checked the window attributes are set to "Solid Fill" "White". This is driving me crazy. I've decided to draw a hatch on top of the slab to avoid this for now. Also I notice the window and door jam details show in 2D Plan view are not accurate. The components don't correctly wrap around. thank you for your response anyway.
