  1. I'm on VW 2020 SP5 and this is how my export window is behaving. The window cannot be resized smaller; only bigger. It then hangs onto that bigger size forever. I cannot upgrade to VW2022 as we keep our files in the format they were started on.
  2. Did anyone ever figure out the answer to this problem? I am having exactly the same issue.
  3. Is there something I am missing with text styles? I have a text style called "General Notes" that I use for general notes, and I want to use this to label my drawings. Some of my notes are to the left of the drawing and these are all Aligned Right. The notes that I have to the right of the drawing are Aligned Left. This is fairly standard with Architectural documentation. My understanding of Text styles in Vectorworks is that in this case I need to have 2 text styles; one to align left and one to align right. Now if I want to have the same font, size and attributes, but align bottom middle, this will require a third text style that fundamentally does the same thing but has a custom alignment. So, unless I am missing an obvious setting, what is the point of text styles? If I change alignment on styled text, it turns to "unstyled" and therefore will never update. It seems like I have to have a different style for every minor variation of text which defeats the purpose of a style. If I have to adjust 8 text styles to change my "General Notes" text across the board, then where is the efficiency in using text styles? I would have thought that a check box allowing you to set (or not set) the alignment value of a text item (similar to the 'copy and apply styles' function in the windoor tool) would allow the functionality of text styles to go from horrendous and useless, to actually quite a powerful utility.
  4. Is there consistency? I add a point to the end of a 3D polyline and it will randomly place a point just after the line (as I want) OR from the beginning of the line (which I do not want), but MOSTLY FROM the centre between the last two vertices (Which I cannot imagine why anyone would want). The only thing I want is consistency. If the software behaves the same all the time then I will get used to it and adjust. I have no idea how they managed to program software to behave inconsistently to the same inputs. They must have used stacked random number generators to do it. Genius!!
  5. Hi Wes, Many thanks for looking at this for me. You have given me a few things to investigate. I'm learning how to set up styled components, so there is some underlying software logic I need to understand. This is very helpful. Yours, Nick.
  6. This is fine, but how do I set which parameters are locked into the style and which are variable. If I drop a door I've set up from Resource Browser into a wall, it appears as expected, but then I can take an existing unstyled door, apply the same style to it and nothing obvious happens. How would I set the door up to use profile, height and form as set up, but allow width to be variable?
  7. I understand that people work differently, but I don't know if vwx does. If we all work differently, why are we locked into the one way of setting up roofs. Also, I don't mean to be rude, but it seems as architects, the majority of us DO need to be exact. For example, when we are setting up an project, we import a survey, which gives us many exact RL's for slabs and ridges and valleys, of both hard and soft elements. We need to model these, but surveyors don't give us slab thickness or under slab levels. They also don't give us bottom of ridge heights. or bottom of edge of gutters.
  8. So I have been using Roof objects as roofs and as ramps/slopes. I believe this is fairly common practice. Why on earth does vectorworks calculate everything from the bottom? We use Top of Ridge RL's, Roof Edge and Gutter RL's. Top of slope RL's and Bottom of slope RL's. Never in all of my architectural experience have I wanted to set the bottom of a sloped object to a specific level. When designing, the important features are on top of a sloped object. Apparently from the VWX perspective it is intuitive to set the bottom of the slope to the Top RL minus the cosine of the slab thickness to set the Finished Level. ??? It would make more sense to set the top of roof RL's that correspond with the top of the slope/roof, and let the roof thickness move down rather than up. Same for the slab tool. Why would I set my slab to -250 from the finished floor level and then add thickness on top of that. If I change my floor construction it just means that I have to get all my slabs and move them up or down. Surely it would make more sense to set a slab to the finished floor level, then let the slab thickness move the bottom down in the Z axis.
  9. I completely agree with Doberman. I'm layering sections and elevations with multiple viewports to get the look I want. The most complex rendering method I'm using is hidden line, NO shadows. The most complex object in the viewports is a site model. So why does it take 10 minutes / individual viewport to update at an absolute minimum? Over 20 years ago, I worked in high end 3D graphics on Softimage. I could render a highly complex NURBS based scene with transparancies, refractive indexes, ray tracing for accurate reflections amongst all elements, multiple lights, both volumetric and point / area lights. Similar resolution with production levels of anti-aliasing. I could get a render out of this in half an hour. On a machine that was designed and built in the 90's.. In the background so I can still work. Wireframe, hidden line, NO reflections, shadows, lights, or anything and I'm still waiting for update to stop killing my machine and holding up my work. It is outrageous that Nemetschek will heap loads of new un-checked, beta 'features' into the software, none of which work until SP3, but fail to consider the single biggest waste of time the software inflicts on us. Seriously?
  10. I'll try that next time. I was advised by our vw reseller tech support to go into the worksheet, edit the criteria of the cell that defines criteria of the worksheet, then just hit ok. This (I guess it recalculated the criteria) allowed me to edit all the available cells.. who knew?
  11. I also have this problem. I have a worksheet set up to generate a window schedule. Some cells derive information from the window object, but other cells are editable to input additional information. This has worked fine up until now, but suddenly these cells cannot be edited. I used to be able to double-click into these and input data, but now the text is just greyed out and I cannot edit it. ?? Help?
