  1. Hi there, I already addressed this several times in the past to our local German distributor, but I think they don't understand my problem at all... I apologize in advance for my harsh words. Vectorworks made with 2022 release improvements to the power planning, so for me this is signal that this will be also updated in the future. But, in 2024 still the same issues like with initial release. What am I talking about? Biggest problem for us with the power planning objects: You are not able to copy your work from one file into another. For example: You have a rig with 100 instruments, distress, power source, cable patch. Everything patched and numbered. Copy everything into blank file - all patch is gone! How can you work with this? You may laugh, but yes, this is not possible without loss of all data and all connections. And yes, it is also absolutely necessary to be able to do that. Why? 1) Because VW is still not at a point where crashes don't happen. And I think will never be. There is software out there that might run 100% safe, but as VW is no human-life-critical software this will never be the goal number one. BUT, we have the auto-save system. Too, bad - this will not help you with power planing objects. 2) What about repeating projects, different project versions or exports for other companies? If I will ask you, if you had to copy, of whatever reason, within the last days sth from one plan into another, you will probably answer "yes, of course". So, why didn't you had this in mind while programming and testing this feature? 3) Repatching 1500 instruments, distros etc. truly is not an option and has nothing to do with "supercharching workflow"! I know your answer - because every object may only exist one time in a system. Distro "A" should not be "A" when duplicated, because then all patch will also be duplicated. And this should not be allowed. Otherwise you would need some kind of error checking (like in Lightwright). For me, this is too short-sighted. I can't understand these facts: Lighting Devices - all data stays when copied Hoists - data not copied if hoist is duplicated (data cannot exist two times), but if hoist is copied into new plan where the same data dosen't exist - the data will be copied (Power Planning - all data lost when copied or duplicated) Hoists work the way I want power planning objects to do, you made yourself an example that it is possible. I am sure, hoist and power planning tools hadn't been programmed from the same source 🙂 So, if you really want us users to use this power planning, your first and number one goal should be to address this problem. Everything else - like patch is not correctly displayed in the OIP - should be secondary. Until this is not fixed, why is there a need for other improvements? I always get told to put it on the wishlist - then everybody must vote. I think 99% of the users don't even know this wishlist exists and/or they don't have the time to look at it every day. I apologize for my harsh words, but I am really dissatisfied with the past support. We spent a lot! of money every year for this software. Thank you
  2. Thank you very much @Nikolay Zhelyazkov for testing. With topic 1) I will use the WS formula until the bug is fixed. Better than changing an existing record With topic 2) I had this in mind too, but wasn't sure if this could be caused by something else. I don't know why my colleague used groups instead of sub symbols, but I advised him to change it. Again, thank you!
  3. Here it is Wonder why the file is that large. Only has 3 3D symbols and 2 graphic legends Has anyone a clue? Maybe because of groups instead of symbols inside the symbol? Graphic Legend Field (Number +1k).vwx
  4. Thank you @Nikolay Zhelyazkov This works! I have a problem with a custom Record: Field is formatted as number 0,0 If the value exceeds 1000 it is not displayed with #Record#.#cell# With #WS it is. Is this a bug?
  5. Hi There, I have a mixed graphic legend for hoists and symbols and I want to display the maximum chain length. Is is formatted in mm like 24000. To display it in meter I enter /1000 in the field. The problem now is that it gives me "/1000" for every symbol. Is there a way to enter if conditions in the field like it is possible in worksheets? F.e.: If(type=hoist;length/1000;' ') And I cannot change the decimal place, the field is grayed. Manually entering "#prec_1#" like it is done with data tag doesn't work. Thank you! Best, Rob
  6. well, thank you @Tom W.! Nobody ever told me this would make a difference. You are totally right, I was on a sheet layer. There should be a glossary about "don't do that when.." and "this will not work because" Best way would be mouse-over-annotations on - in my case - the grayed render dropdown saying "you must enter the symbol def out of an design layer" - or something like that.
  7. No, both time I edited directly from RM! Editing in DL takes longer - place symbol -edit - delete symbol. Also I attach records to the symbol in the RM (which must be edited in the RM). Seems complicated to me to do the one thing in the RM but the other must be done in DL.
  8. Hi there, I have an older file - my library - which grew over time. I created a 3D symbol in a new file and copied it to the library file. What I noticed: When I edit 3D of the symbol in the library file - I cannot change the render mode, the dropdown is grayed. When I edit 3D of the symbol in the new file - I can change the render mode. I checked the document settings and set the identical, didn't help. Is there a (document) setting, which disables the renderer? Why is it possible in one file and in another it isn't? Thank you!
  9. Hi there, it seems to me, that the Equipment List Worksheet only tracks the first three virtual parts from the list. After the that it continues with "Length". Is this a bug?
  10. Got it, we will keep this way until the update is there.
  11. Exact same problem - I will stop searching now what I am missing... It is only stored to the drawn items, correct? Not to ones in the resource manager. We always start a drawing from the resource manager, so it would be good to have the v-parts etc. directly attached to the symbols, f.e. with records. Easy to fill data and the handling is well known (like with custom instruments, trusses) Hope to see this update soon - equipment lists could be kind of a game changer. Best, Rob
  12. Hi there, I am using more and more data tags to display information from plug-in objects (trusses, hoists, lights...). Therefore ALL or SELECTED eligible mode is the one I use - because I want to tag hundreds of items with one click. F.e. a custom hoist tag or a tag for truss length etc. But this is the same for any tag or any plug-in object. I color this tags with data visualization depending on their tagged information or I use them in marionette. To be able to do this you have to set a "link to data source" (a record) inside the tag field and attach this record to the tag itself. Then the information from the tag field is not only displayed in the tag - it is also written into the record field. And this record field is used within data viz, marionette and so on... The record must not be used for the objects you are tagging. No comes the problem: With a record attached to the tag but not to the object ALL or SELECTED eligible mode is not possible Why is this the case? For making it short I quote @Nikolay Zhelyazkov who was really helpful about this topic: I can understand why the modes aren't allowed, but for my work there is actually no other way around and I think I am not the only one. So what could be a solution? I don't know if this is possible, but maybe this could be one: Only in the ALL or SELECTED mode: If it is detected, that a record is required at the objects for the tag to work 1. display the dialog as you get in SINGLE or LABEL mode 2. but don't give the option to "don't show this dialog again. Always do the selected action." for the dialog. 3. display the dialog with every use of the tool only once - not for every conflict it goes through 4. For every conflict do the same choice like you decided in the dialog PROS: + nothing will change for the currently working modes + ALL/SELECTED will work for this scenario CONS: - no possibility to hide the dialog completely - different choices within a tagging is not possible -> select the ones you want to have the same choice and run SELECTED mode. If you also want to have this to work please vote this up! --------------------------------------------------------------- Setting up the data link: The error message you are given in ALL/SELECTED mode: The dialog you get in SINGLE eligible mode: Original thread with more background information : How to set up a data tag for use in data visualization: Thank you @Tom W. @Nikolay Zhelyazkov for helping me out
  13. Ok wow, that is information I really needed. Even in the help section - which is usually really detailed - was nothing about it. So, thank you for your quick reply. Too bad this was the way the problem has been solved. There must be a way in between. I will create a thread. Thank you!
  14. @Tom W. Thank you for your answer! I first wondered why it is working and then got it. But I'm sorry - I think I was not precise enough: You are in the "SINGLE eligible mode" - correct? (Because only one truss is highlighted in red) Please try again in "ALL eligible mode" or "SELECTED eligible mode - this is what I need. I only get your message when placing in SINGLE eligible mode. ALL or SELECTED mode always gives me the error message. SINGLE or LABEL mode is not possible for me, because there are hundreds of trusses to be tagged.
  15. Hi there, I have the same problem but with tagging trusses. I have made a tag for use in eligible mode. It displays the length of a truss item. In the tag field the data is linked to a record, which is attached to the tag. So I also have the length pulled into the record. I need this for further work with data viz and marionette. But as soon as I set the "link to data source" my tag says "no eligible object is selected" and the trusses aren't detected. If I don't set the data link everything works fine. I attached a file with two tags, the only difference between them is the active link. I think this is a bug!? I need it to work in eligible mode, in label mode it also works. But in my case this is useless. If not a bug, how can I then pull out data from a tag (the data it the tag itself pulls out from an object) into data viz or marionette? Thank you! DTag.vwx
