  1. M5d.

    About time.

You will need some time. It all depends on the project size. That time will be retributed by quality and speed. It takes less time when you se the whole proccess, This beacuse renderworks is extremely slow, C4d is fast.

  2. Right now this is my workflow:

    1. Model in Vw. Using layer for stories, class for objects.

2.a You can maintain this structure exporting each layer separately and importing them in cinema (one by one). Then asign the heights for each layer in C4d use Xref (this avoid the idea of retyping the z height of the layer each time a modification occurs). Looks complicated, really it isn't.

2.b You can use layer link (need to be added to your workspace via workspace editor in Vw); make a layer link in a new layer. This is the simpler and more direct way.

    3. Export to cinema using the plug-in provided by Maxon.

  3. NAG have powerfull applications, that's the point. The problem it's that they are not integrated. How can they be integrated: maybe plug-ins or a common format between all the NAG products, I really don't know.

Allplan and Scia are used in their region and maybe NAG don't have as a goal to compete with those products in America.

Here, I live in a caribbean Island, the touristic development is huge, very huge, and that implies contact with many people, most from europe. I have found several german and belgan arhcitects that use allplan. Maybe Italians, Frenchs and Spanish use Autodesk products. I know in Japan, Vw is preferred. Here in my country, the adoption of Vw is growing.

Maybe at this moment Vw and others NAG products can do good, because the world market more than the US market, it's a litle more open minded.

  4. I know there are many 32bit applications that simply won't install on Windows 64.

    OK, start naming them.

Sorry for the mistype: 32 bit aplications simply won't run on Windows 64 as 64bit application (as a 64 bit application they are limited by itself)

    Thank yoiu Mr.Gog

Still does not explain why it is different.

Could someone from NNA please inform us as to why VW is different on the different OS systems at the same bit rate and why it does not make full usage of RAM available??

The difference is: when you have 32 bit architecture you have acces to 2^32 addresses this is 4gb. In 64 bit architecture this is 2^64, or 16 exabytes. This is practically unlimited, for now.

32bit and 64bit applications can run on Mac Os at the same time. You don't need different installs. That is defined in the application before launch.

Do you mean that when starting an application it first asks if you want to run in 64 or 32 bit mode (if it supports 64 of-course)?

It won't ask, you specify it before launch. Look attached image.

This is probably due to the fact that 64bit applications have only been possible on the Mac side for about 18 months (leopard)...pretty good for Apple compared to the twenty years it to develop a multi-button mouse.

I really don't know when became to life the first 64bit application for Mac, but the G5 was 64bit, and Tiger was able to run 64 bit applications. The G5 was out in the year 2003. Tiger was out in the year 2005.

This can give you some clues, about Apple and why his clients are more confident:

But then again, Apple's not really a software company.

LOL, I'm not worry about that. I'm not worry about Microsoft... I use what I want, like you. I don't want to use Microsoft products because I loose money.

LOL, let's leave this thread here.

    LOL, sorry for my english.

  5. In MacOs 32bit mode you get access to 3gb of ram for each application, in Windows 32bit only 2Gb (sometimes less). The limit for 32bit system is 4gb: for some reason the system take a portion. In Windows this portion is bigger.

I understood this fact one day when someone lend me one PC for some renders, it was more powerfull than my Mac G5. The PC couldn't render, because of this technical limit. Both system where 32 bit. Cinema 4d.

32bit and 64bit applications can run on Mac Os at the same time. You don't need different installs. That is defined in the application before launch. To take the 64bit advantage the aplication must be compiled for 64bit, too. I think this duality is supported by the universal binary. One Os, the application defines the mode.

For Windows if you are running an 32bit application in a 64bit system and want to reach the limit of ram for the 32bit application (4gb), it must be compiled with: LARGEADDRESSAWARE flag. But you won't get more than 4gb, because is a limit of the application itself, that is 32bit. I know there are many 32bit applications that simply won't install on Windows 64.

  6. Major problems with navigation came up because a far origin from center of the page. This can be the result of the move page tool, it moves the page but not the origin. I recommend that if you use the move page return it to the original position by double clicking on it (the origin and the page will be aligned again).

    Hope this helps.

  7. The solution is on the Vw side:

The export resolution is controlled by the 3d conversion resolution: I use high or very high if the curve is big; if it is small (less than half a meter), use medium (for optimize memory use, basically). Hope this helps.

  8. The problem is that the values of 3d conversion resolution are preconfigured. Maybe the user should have, in an object basis and not the overall model, control over the resolution of 2d and 3d objects (regarding the resolution of the mesh, and the conversion resolution).

  9. Maybe, RW isn't a real option. RW shouldn't be an aditional module, it lacks the velocity and quality needed. The first time the model it's ported to cinema, rendered with only the sky object, and the AR, you'll never again think about RW.

I think NNA should think abou this.

    1. Offering a real solution in RW

    or

    2. Putting all the pieces together with MAXON. Better handling when Translating and working with model across VW and C4d. Plus a real $offer$ to VW users.

  10. I think VW should be smarter, regarding to hybrids. When you create an hybrid symbol VW should calculate (automatically) the display for the 2d part (this must be dynamic), including the cut section of the object, and the projection (dashed) over the section plane. Something like this:

Create Symbol---> Name ---> How you want it to look in Plan View ---> Select Insertion point.

    Sorry for my english.

  11. Archicad has a direct plug in to Maxwell (supported y NL), also does Allplan (this is supported by NNAG).

Sketchup has a PLUG... Microstation does.

I think NNA should focus on support better comunication with C4d (owned by NNAG)... and other supperior renderer (vray or maxwell, or both). It's an option for the people that want supperior render capabilities.

  12. Is a wish of mine, too!

But, I think you have to ask next limit, they produce the plug ins.

Of course, it's not a bad idea NNA get close to Next Limit, like the others do.

Currently I'm using VW-->C4d-->Maxwell workflow. It's ok, since the

link between VW and C4d it's good, but it's an aditional step that must of the time is not necessary
