I've had the same problem. Arcs with their center off the plot sheet, and they would not plot (HP600/mac). The workaround is to convert the arc to polygon (tools>convert to polygons). Hope this helps

Another way to use PDFs is to open them in Photoshop. You can then save in whatever bitmap format you like.
