I took a look at your website and I'm interested in understanding the data workflow with your renderings: I understand you model everything with VW and export to C4D with the plugin. I guess you place some people images in Cinema, wonder how you use them. thanks
  2. quote: Originally posted by Travis: One complaint I often have is the size of the file. Travis, in Acrobat 6 I have the option to "reduce file size" of the PDF document, and it works within Acrobat. I don't know about Acrobat 7, but I guess it's still in the File menu.
  3. quote: Originally posted by bonus: well Paolo, I think jan15 got the answer for you - did it work? Va bene? I have to retrieve the "airy" dwg and try to import it again with the mentioned option switched off.
  4. quote: Originally posted by bonus: I solved it by unchecking "snap to loci" in the VW preferences. What do you mean Bonus, can explain it better? Do you mean you could control how imported files are being converted? I don't remember such a "snap to loci" box in the import options, maybe I just missed it?
  5. Thanks Jim, your revised DWG import without problems into VW: see attached link: Jim's revised DWG with polylines imports fine into VW! . Jim, I'd like to understand better the process involved in the translation you did for me (thanks again!): you did it in Autocad, I guess... and would like to understand if it'd be possible to make the same operation - as a workaround to the current VW import problem - in other CAD apps other than VW.
  6. Here are the files: - this is how the imported DWG shows in VW - ...and how it should be! - this is the resulting VW imported DWG file - this is the original DWG file to be imported Wish VW imported better.
  7. can you provide me with an email address? thanks
  8. makn, we finally bought an Epson 4000. Seems to be friendly to the mixed Mac OSX/OS9 and VW 11 environment, but not yet got into details. I'll keep posting.
  9. I have imported a DWG file into VW 11 and get a strange result: the drawings is full of "hairy lines" that don't belong to the original drawing for sure. I double checked the DWG, that imported fine in another CAD application. BTW, I wish to show you what I see on my monitor, but don't know how to attach images to this message: is it possible?
  10. I recently completed an architectural competition and for that matter I produced two A0-sized drawings that I needed to plot in a service bureau. I tried first with PDF files, but the service said that they couldn't print with reliable dimensions, their RIP software couldn't print the correct size from PDF/EPS files: I'd get a 2 to 5% smaller or larger plotted image. Is this correct or the services is telling me lies? I tried then with EPS, but got a file with missing objects... I finally found a solution saving the drawings to an A0-sized TIFF image. This printed allright...
  11. A question about viewports: is it possible to convert a viewport to a normal editable "line drawing"? I'd like to extract 2d editable views from a 3d object using viewports. is it possible?
  12. hi kevin, nice to see you around... the world is getting smaller every day!
  13. Yes, I just realized I've used the 2d selection tool instead of the 3d selection. Now it's better, thanks.
  14. I must correct my post: the problem arises overall if I move 3d objects and try to snap on objects' edges. During the creation of objects snaps seems to work allright
  15. quote: Originally posted by islandmon: Due to veretex stacking, it's imperative to snap in orthogonic 30? view to get the correct vertex/edge/plane. VW is very sensiive to vertex 'over-load' and I think this is beneficial as it errors on the side of caution. The default Z snap =0 even if the X&Y are correct. islandmon, sorry but I don't follow you. I'm new to vw in 3d and don't understand exactly what you mean by "orthogonic 30? view" and "The default Z snap =0 even if the X&Y are correct". Do you mean I'd work in View>Projection Oblique 30? or something like this?
  16. I do like Sketchup and Ashlar Vellum's Cobalt. These are 3d snaps that work...
  17. thanks mike, but what advice can you give me? give up 3d on VW ?
  18. I have problems snapping objects in 3d. looks like two objects' edges are coincident, but as soon as i rotate the axonometric view, I realize the edges aren't coincident, even if VW told me I snapped!

  20. In our office we're going to upgrade the good old Epson Stylus 3000 to a new printer, capable of A3+ printing in color. It's the only printer in a 5-Macintosh office, and we use it for everything from b/w email to A3 photos and CAD renderings. We're going to decide between upgrading to the Epson 4000 c4 (inkjet) and a color laser, the Konica Minolta Magicolor 7300. Both have pros and cons. The color rendering is excellent on the epson, but the price per copy is higher than the Minolta laser. BTW we made some demo prints on both and the Minolta seems unable to render subtle shades of sky (the gradient is not continuous, and the colors are "stepped"). Would like to get advices from users of this web board. thanks
  21. I just found a Rotate Page free plugin here: http://www.vectorbits.com/RotateDrawing.html It's almost what I needed. Manuel Garc?a de Paredes has done a very useful tool, thanks Manuel!
  22. has 3D's Rotate Working Plane some effect on 2d drawings? I tried it out but seems to affect just 3d elements. Mine is a 2d plan...
  23. BTW, my real problem is working with rotated rectangles. As I rotate the rectangles I lose the ability to change their width/height, as in the Obj Info window I can read only the ROTATED dimensions... Let's say I draw a 3x5 rectangle. As I rotate it by 30 ? I can read the dimensions as 4,53x5,72. If I'd like to modify the original dimensions to 4x5, I have to do some workarounds and can't edit the dimesions diretcly in the Obj Info window. Is there a quick solution to this?
  24. I have a portion of the drawing I'm currently working on that is rotated by a fixed angle (say 32 degrees). I'd like to rotate the global x,y,z axis to my needs, as I could do with Autocad UCS and Microstation. How can I do this in Vectorworks? Thanks!
  25. quote: Originally posted by Ramon P: I have tried a few setups with Gimp and all have failed. Anyone knows which Gimp HP driver is similar to that for the HP DesignJet 600 ?? Ramon, out of curiosity, which is your setup with the HP600? Which cable do you use to connect (the Mac) to the plotter? At the moment I'm plotting from a OS9 server with MacPlot and a Belkin USB-to-serial cable. It works, but I was wondering how to upgrade the system to work under OSX...
