  1. Good old Microstation... I miss it since it left the Mac platform. It was years ahead of the competition. Did you know it had parametric solid modelling already back then?
  2. I just bought the bigger brother, the T1100. Works almost flawlessy, except one single VW drawing that gets stuck in the plotter spooler. Seems it's a driver limitation.
  3. MTB, I used an old HP designjet600 with MacPlot and OS9. Good B/W prints, a mess with the plotter workflow... need to have a dedicated Mac+OS9 as plotter server. Draw on Macs with OSX, save and open back on the Mac+OS9 as plotter server with VW viewer (stick to release 11, older don't work on OS9). A little tricky but works great.
  4. I have tried the X-Rip demo, have you? I don't think you'll get nice print quality. If you have an older Mac that still supports OS9, MacPlot (the older version of X-Rip) produces much nicer plotter output.
  5. Do you work with the standard or Postscript version?
  6. Yes, I can print from almost any application, as the plotter is seen as a standard printer. The problem is not every VW drawing get print. A couple of drawings in particular get stuck in the printer spooler. Called HP Tech Service and they candidly said that "Mac OSX driver is not actually a CAD plotter driver, just a general office printer driver". They said try Microspot X-Rip, that has an awful quality. Right now I'm checking into Fiery Efi PS printer driver, the one that ships with T1100 PS version: just waiting for a demo CD, we'll see how it works.
  7. Nobody here using Mac+Hp DesignJets?? We just upgraded to a HP DesignJet T1100 (non-PostScript version) and wondering if we did the right choice. We have a VW 11 drawing that no matter what I do is not going to print on the T1100. I was wondering if the PS version of the T1100 would print it? Should I try X-RIP?? BTW the T1100 is not listed in X-Rip supported plotters...
  8. I'm experiencing problem plotting from Mac OSX 10.4.11 to HP DesignJet T1100. Here's the story. We used a good old DesignJet600 with MacPlot plotter driver. We just upgraded to the T1100, that works good with OS X, except for some particular drawings. It happens that the plotter driver software spools the drawing until the spooling progression bar gets to the end, and then nothing else. It should begin to print but nothing else happens. I contacted HP support and they say that HP's Mac OS X plotter driver is not specifically suited for CAD drawings (!!!!) but just a generic "office" driver. This mean it has no direct HPGL2 output but instead it performs a mere image rasterization. They suggested to check with a specialized CAD driver like MacPlot (not knowing it's not anymore in production...). Windows driver instead outputs to a complete HPGL2 file... Well, now I know HP has done a very poor work with Mac OS X driver. I'm trying to use the windows driver (with Parallels+Win XP+Vectorworks Viewer) and see. One question to XP/Windows users. Is it possibile to have custom sized paper for the T1100? How? thanks
  9. I have a DWG file that comes with a layout: that means I have some viewports. Problem is when I plot, all the text in the view ports get printed as black boxes. the same text is readable on the screen. If I try to transform the Viweport into lines, I loose all text, it disappear. What can I do to reproduce this drawing with text? thanks
  10. Mike thank you so much! You (almost) solved my problem, just one more question. I use dual dimensioning, with centimeters in the secondary. It works, but i would like to disable the unit mark shown beside the secondary dimension. Maybe it's a silly, but haven't found the way to do it...
  11. Is it possible to have the drawing unit set to Meters and to have at the same time dimensions drawn in centimeters? thanks
  12. Thanks Peter, I'll try your way!
  13. I'm drawing a staircase that raises thru 3 floors. I'd like to have a 3d axonometric drawing and some sections on the staircase. I've drawn the 3d staircase on 3 layers, according to the building floors (level 1, level 2 and roof level), but seems like that to have 3d axo. view of the complete staircase, across all floors, the stiarcase need to be on just one layer. Same for sections. How do you make 3d sections of the whole building? Can't think you're required to work on just one layer!! any help? Thanks paolo@bartolidesign.it
  14. It works with 3d only. Thanks Katie!
  15. Importing a 3d DWG file into VW 11 I get a flat drawing, everything lays on level +/- 0.00 on Z axis. Same file imported in Sketchup, I see some lines are at different Z axis lievels. How to import correctly into VW 11?
  16. I just received a DWG file that contains terrain contours. I'd like to have each contour as a single entity (group or/else a polyline). Right now the contours are a collection of broken continuos lines, and I'd like to connect them. Is there any command in VW to do that else do you know any plugin for VW that can do that? Thanks a lot!
  17. I have made my custom dimensions settings for vw 11/mac osx. How do I force VW to use my custom dimensions as the default setting? thanks
  18. Thanks Islandmon, what I really need is to layer a colored TRANSPARENT polygon. This way the colored polygon should let be visible the underneath scanned image because the color is transparent. Is it possible? I tried with your solution, but I can't see how it can be colored and transparent at the same time.
  19. Using VW 11, I'd like to load a B/W scanned plan into a VW drawing. Till here no problem. Next step is to layer above this image a colored polygon to highlight a part of the drawing. This is very simple using a vector hatch that is transparent. But how to do it with a full solid color ? I'm used to do thing like this in Adobe Illlustrator... I though of stacking the BW image above the full solid color layer, but the "white part" of the image is not transparent. How can I do it in VW? BTW how does (or does not) Layer Transfer Mode apply to this problem? Thanks!
  20. about the previous post, maybe I was a little bit cryptic. the problem is that my partner works with Autocad. He uses CTB files (plotter config files) to change colors and line weight upon plotting. This mean the color I see in VW are not the one my partner is going to plot on paper, and we need to have the same color palette configuration. I'm wondering if with Vectorscript I can change the classes' colors and line weight "on the fly" unpon DWG import... difficult task? Please help me out!! thanks
  21. I'd like to customize some DWG files I import from customers. I'd like to change Classes setups (color, weights) automatically (we use to exchange files quite often). Is it possible in vectorscript? I must add that I'm new to vectorscript, maybe there's already around a script that does that.
  22. Katie, I work with vw 11. I've searched under File>Preferences>Document Preferences but found no trace of color palettes. Maybe I've not understand where to search.
  23. Is it possible to: a) modify the colors palette? b) attach a new colors palette (I suppose the color palette is stored in a file )?
  24. I have a problem. I'm working with a partner architect that works on windows with autocad, I'm working with VW 11 on Mac OSX. The problem arises when we exchange DWG files, since colors change. For instance he has walls with black outline and I see the same drawing with walls outlines in magenta! Is it possible to change the class setups with a configuration file in VW? I know I can manually change the class settings manually, but since the job consist of many drawing files that we keep on exchanging on a daily basis, I'd like to reduce manual labor as much as possible.
