  1. I'll try what you suggested. I do have overlapping polygons, as there are existing site walls. How would these be described if there can't be "overlapping" contour lines? Offset them slightly?
  2. I'm trying to create a site model...for the first time. I brought in a tiff file created from a pdf, as the pdf brought into Architect was so fuzzy I couldn't read the information (why was that?). I then traced all the contours with the 2d polygon tool. Next I used the 'convert 2d to 3d poly' command. I then went to create the site model, entering all the information per the manual, and hit "enter". The color ball started spinning. and spinning. and spinning. I was either on acid or the program had frozen, and did a re-start. Went through the whole thing again. Same result, but this time I just went to bed to see if I would wake up to a spinning ball, and sure enough I did. 8 HOURS LATER! This can't be normal. Please advise. Vectorworks 11.5, Mac G4
  3. I'm a novice user, using Vectorworks at home and stuck with ADT at work. My problem is that when I insert a window object into a wall, it shows up in the model as a window frame with solid wall inside, instead of glass and muntins. This has happened with 3 out of 4 windows I've inserted (they were made as duplicates of each other, if that matters). Is there a "proper" way to insert the windows, that the wall recognizes, that I'm not doing? Thanks.
  4. Thank you for responding, but I still don't seem able to change a numeric value to text. When I change the numeric value in the Object Info palette and hit "enter", I get a beep, and the value is left unchanged.
  5. I feel stupid asking this, but there was no answer in my training CD's or the manual, at least that I could find. I have a dimension in place with a numeric value, and I want to override that value to place text instead ("EQ"). I tried to edit the numeric value in the attribute box, but i got a beep instead. How do I change the value?
  6. I've noticed, and read in this forum, that when creating an angled line, it appears thicker than a similar line drawn orthagonally. I understand this comes from Vectorworks drawing with a "square", which when moved on the diagonal, will trace a line defined by the opposite corners of the square, making it fatter. I hope this is changed in a future version.
  7. I am using VW (basic) 10.5 on a Mac, and am having trouble getting an object window in a wall to show correct lineweight. In the object info pallette, there is a checkbox for: "Use Wall Lineweight", which I have checked. The wall lineweight runs correctly around the jamb of the window, but also runs around the sill, which isn't what I want at all. I changed the "lineweight multiplier" to .75 in order to show detail, but noticed that the "sill lineweight" choice is greyed out and set to "10". I dont seem to be able to change this setting. Is this option not available in the basic VW? How can I lighten the sill lineweight, and keep the wall lineweight around the jamb?
  8. Thanks to all for your responses. I guess I'm going to have to consider getting the Architect module.
  9. I'm a new user of VW, coming from AutoCad ADT 3, quite anal about the look of my drawings, and have come across the following problem: When I T join or L join 2 different wall styles, the cavity lines don't clean up. Only the outside defining lines clean up. I have created 2 different wall styles that have the same cavity definitions, only different wall thicknesses. Since the cavities are the same depth from the outside, representing the same material, they should clean up. However, when I draw one wall T-ing into a different wall style, the cavity lines stop short. What am I doing wrong?
