  1. I saw your post when I did a search. Unfortunately, the response you got was no help. The post I referred to suggested that if the text was changed to something other than "by class", the font would display. That worked for the person that asked the question, but not for me. You might try it.
  2. The font should be available, as the file came from the same machine I work on. Niver deless, I'll check the preference you mentioned. thanks
  3. I have a custom titleblock, and being custom, it has different typefaces within. The problem is that when I insert this titleblock, the differing typefaces all convert to the more common typeface, that being ariel. I read from another post that one should be able to go back onto the original file of the titleblock and change the attributes of the text to anything but "by class", and that will fix the problem. I haven't had any luck with this. Any other ideas? Mac G4, os10.4.7 VW12.0.1
  4. I'm having the same problem. I've tried reloading the program, but it makes no difference. I may try to download the whole thing again with more items closed, but I don't think that is going to make a difference.
  5. I'm on a Mac. It sounds like I need to use a different browser than Safari. Thank you.
  6. Updates from VW 11 or otherwise came with no manual, with the idea that one would use the "Help" window when baffle fluttered yer noggin. The help window, for me, only works perhaps 20% of the time I click on it. For the most part, it just sits there with full menu and the new 12 logo, not responding to anything. Anyone else?
  7. My experience is that you should export the file as .dwg and then bring the file into Illustrator and then save it as a pdf.
  8. NNA made such a big deal about how much graphic control you have now with version 12. The quote was something like "unparalleled graphic capabilities" when in fact they seem to have just lowered the graphic quality of the software. I'm probably way too passionate about drawing for this age of "its written in the software", but I thought VW was about the best out there in this respect. My opinion, however, has now dropped, not unlike the sack of $500 I paid for this upgrade. I shall pray for 12.5, but not without breathing.
  9. No, it doesn't. It assigns the value you select to the whole of the part. It doesn't profile the assembly like it would do in 11.5. I can't believe they got rid of this feature, and I can't figure why they would spend the time to do so. I keep hoping they didn't get rid of it, and that they just changed the method of doing so. But it seems not.
  10. Whats missing is the ability to profile the object. If I simply deselect the "use line weights" button, the object reverts to a default line weight, or one set in the attributes palette, and the whole object becomes that line weight. In previous versions of VW, using the "Use Wall Line Weights" button would intelligently outline the object, not simply asign the wall line weight to every line in the object.
  11. I had read that version 12 had more visual control over the look of objects in wall, such as windows and doors. I was very happy to read this, seeing as the ability of VW to profile the outline of these objects ("use wall line weight" setting) is one of the features that really sets it apart from autocad, for those of us that still care what our drawings look like. So I bought the update. It seems this feature has been poofed in the update, replaced with the mindless option to bulk up the whole of window components (why would one want to thicken up the side of a trim piece that is against the wall?). I am in deep prayer mode that I am wrong, and that my favorite feature is buried deep, i just haven't pulled out the right flashlight. Please inform how to get the profiling feature to work. Or am I right, and this update is a hairpiece?
  12. What would be the reason to leave quartz imaging off?
  13. I'm considering buying version 12 as an upgrade, and have heard that the software is now compatible with OSX, in the sense that it is now "carbon". This supposedly results in true line thickness being displayed on screen and printed when the line is curved or angled, something we Mac users haven't had to this point (the lines were always wider, due to bitmapped simulation of angled lines in a grid of bits). Can any Mac users vouch for this change in 12?
  14. Thanks for responding. I found out what it was. Sort of. It must have been created when I first made the viewport, and it must have been made in some naughty class. I dont know why it wasnt sized the same as the viewport, but I was able to get rid of it by going into vp edit, going into "crop" mode, and turning the line setting to "none". Its still a mystery to me. thanks
  15. I have a viewport in a sheet layer. There is a box outlining most of the viewport, but not all of it. The box stops short of the whole size of the viewport. I cannot get this box to disappear, and I havent the slightest how it came to be. The viewport is on class 0 with no lines or fills. How can I get rid of it? What is it? I'm gittin scratchy.
  16. I like to draw with line weight on. If I use the VP's as Peter suggests, with everything drawn to one scale, how can the lineweights for one drawing be adjusted for two different scales?
  17. I'm sure this is simple. I've created a design layer with a certain scale. When I change the scale (and visibility) of that layer to make a background for another drawing, and then revert to the original scale to work on the original drawing again, the text is all screwed up and in the scale of the "other" drawing. To get it back to normal, I have to double click on the text, and click "ok" in the window that opens, after which it reverts to the correct scale. Needless to say, this makes my trousers hurt. What am I doing wrong?
  18. Thanks for your help. This seems to be one case where autocad has a nice feature that allows one to draw endcaps as polylines and define the end of a wing wall. Perhaps you can tell that I'm tormented by autocad during the day, pleased by vw at night.
  19. I have a wall with GWB on both sides of the wall. The plan I'm working on is at 1:48, so I'm indicating the GWB graphically (this is necessary because some walls dont have the GWB on both sides). How can I show the GWB on the end of a wing wall? Do I have to draw it "manually"?
  20. ignore this question, i found a discussion
  21. I've been trying to export a file to be placed in Indesign for a presentation board. The line quality is slightly horrible. I was exporting as a jpeg at 400 p/in, but the quality just wasnt there. Any suggestions? I've searched the board but no questions regarding presentations and line quality.
  22. Thanks to both of you. You were correct that the symbol contained groups on another class. I'm surprised that these symbols, which came with the software, were created with lines and groups in a class called "none".
  23. I downloaded the latest update, and was looking to try the sketch tool, but it doesn't seem to be there. I went to View>Rendering>no sketch in sight. Is it possible the download was incomplete? The program identifies itself as being "11.5".
  24. I've spent the past few hours trying to get some plumbing fixture symbols to show up on my drawing. Earlier today I was able to place these varmits, but then they vanished. It seems that I can place some symbols, but others show only the 4 corner dots, and then vanish when placed. The class visibility is on. The classes are set to show/snap/modify others. I know this sounds like oe... Also, is there an easy way to move symbols once they have been placed? The symbols I was working with only showed the "pullies", which I thought were only for streching, but were able to move the symbol, though crudly. The "arrow" wasn't showing up at all. One symbol wouldn't let me select it at all. I'm sure there's a better way. I feel like I'm still eating out of tennis shoes...
  25. I did the simple model you suggested and it worked out fine. I'll redo the site model with non overlapping polygons and see if that helps. Thanks for your help.
