Wow, this is the first time I've been able to fake a mirror ball. An Array of Renderworks Spotlights at 90º with a dot gobo texture in all 6 of them, coupled with a sphere with a mirror surface as a symbol spinning! All due to SP3  amazingly allowing any texture be applied to a Renderworks Spotlight plus then Michael's spinning script!

Plus it's going in the opposite direction of the revolve! I'd still like the following:

    • Being able to bring it back somehow to it's original start position otherwise it's trial and error and hitting the space bar to stop
    • It would be great to choose the degrees up to 360º. Maybe if 360º is chosen it just keeps spinning and that is the default?
    • Somehow be able to couple it up with the animation export so users can control the number of frames and size?

Either way in a seemingly short period of time Michael you've created a really easy to use and very useful script that answers @DiggleDesigns original question so much better than my feeble attempt!

Hey @Peter Neufeld. any change to reupload your file for a test spin. Now link just says "Sorry! We could not locate the item you are trying to view."

  2. I am interested of that documentation. Even modifying hinges were a bit try and fail until you succeed method. Comparing how other symbols from library were constructed helped too. I'm sure documentation would be a lot of help.

  3. This is also an option.

    image.thumb.png.98b4af81741db4d4b12ea737bc843624.png

Viewport from front view with Background Render as Shaded to be able to use Data Visualization and Hidden Line as Foreground Render to bring lines to objects. Data Tags to make ID and address visible.

  4. I presume that you want curtain at the end of tent and tent has straight triangular shape at the roof rigde. Way of doing this is to draw curtain with Soft Goods tool as wide as tent end is. Go to front view, use Convert to Group command(CTRL-K). Now you should have Nurbs Surface. Now you can use Split Tool to cut curtain along tent roof. You have to use Split twice to get both sides. Now you should have Nurbs Surface that has wavy form of Soft Good tool and geometry from tent end.

If your shape is more complex then Marks video will guide you to achieve that.

  5. Hi, can I get colors back to status column in Calculation Overview?

    image.png.cd094c69c041396831e619010520ae0a.png

I thought that colors in status symbols were supposed to be easy to spot different levels of information. Now all OK and information level are equal and similar icons and not that easy to see on quick glance. At least warning is still different colored icon (yellow triangle with exclamation mark, not on this picture).

  6. On possibility is to use Data-Tags in viewport to show information that you want to show in each. With different Data-Tag between viewports you can see data that is defined in different Data-Tags. I have Data-Tag that is similar visually and in data to my normal Label Legend. With that Data-Tag I can easily visualize ID and Addr even in oddly angled front views. On normal Top/Plan viewport I use just Label Legend because it is usually fastest way to show that data. Data-Tag is IMO easier to move if viewport is crowded, one click to move all fields compared to LL where you have to move all fields separately.

  7. How from Calculation Overview I easily know with out double clicking row what is M7 in my drawing now that I have done Reset Braceworks ID:s? I can't even add columns to show Notes field from Hoist to know what M(Number) is what Hoist. If I could see Notes field I would know at instant what hoist is in question. Not to mention that ID could be ID that I have given to hoist and not the ID program likes to give to hoist.

And if I happen to be in some 3D view double clicking the row takes view to some odd place that usually does not even show that hoist on clicked row. Maybe clicking row could change view also to Top/Plan to this function to work better?

    image.thumb.png.cd0774c8afebfd83d3ad05d063e555f1.png

  8. But could Braceworks ID be separate from Hoist ID field? I think plenty on users use that as ID field to label hoist in plans. As Stefan said, now when you develop your best identification system to design it is all gone when you "Reset Braceworks IDs".

You can also use Notes field to ID your hoists but that is not most intuitive way when you have Hoist ID field available.

Lighting Devices don't use ex. Unit Number field for Braceworks ID. If you set Unit Number it is Unit Number even if you reset BW IDs.

I recall some earlier thread in forums where there was discussion that BW ID could be changed to use some invisible UID in hoist. Has this been considered?

In my honest opinion Hoist ID and Braceworks ID should be different data.

  9. Hanging position edit seems to be broken still on 2024.

On attached file t1 Hanging Position is stick of Reliable Truss (random from VW library). As truss those snap as they should. When converting to Hanging Position, single position from all selected, Use Geometry options selected and editing this HP additional truss snaps to same offset from HP origin as line is from drawing origin Y+20mm X+98mm . See left most truss.

T2 Eurotruss FD34 from library same options when converting to HP and editing this additional trusses snap to same offset from HP origin as line is from drawing origin, in this case Y+ 2200mm X+/- 200 as there is truss added on both ends on line.

Also when making HP(T3 and T4) from Eurotuss multiple pieces HP gets Z value -3mm, trusses inside HP gets Z value +3mm. If HP is made with only one truss Z value says as 0mm in HP and in truss inside Hanging Position.

We have been seeing this at least from v2021 maybe earlier but cant recall so much back time.

  10. Thanks Jesse! Solid advice. I can understand alignment on main tubes.

    Couple notes thou.

    • Premium Library is aligned like this. VW Library is aligned so that connectors are sitting at 0mm
    • Eurotruss ST-BLK has Z-height on 3D component 510,94mm (this is not big deal, I just noticed this when checking things). I think height should be 510mm. I think error comes from manufacturer CAD file. Their older version of same product file has height of 510mm.
    • Similar construction trusses at least from Prolyte (S36, S52) is aligned to zero on connector. We need consistency on similar objects.

  11. While making company library of Eurotruss ST series truss I noticed that on Truss Symbol Data, Cross Section Data for ST on Vectorworks Libraries has Height and Width listed as 500mm x 500mm. This is correct on main beams but end connectors are 510mm x 510mm. This makes it so that magnet snap point is not at the center of truss profile but 5mm offset at Z-axis (Cornerblock Top3D and Bottom3D on X-axis).  Technical Specs from manufacturer says size as 510mm https://www.eurotruss.com/product/st-square-truss .

    image.thumb.png.c5483a33472d14c3738682d84a04f53f.png

This makes it easy to achieve misalignment of 10mm between different pieces.

    image.thumb.png.5c12dc9b3e7572645ca37da0a04b3b0c.png

In above screenshots I have used stock library symbols.

    Is this working as designed?

If I correct this by Customizing Truss Data Cross Section using custom cross section height and width as 510mm does this affect Braceworks calculations somehow?

  12. You could also try to refresh your Vectorworks Library on Resource Manger. Goto Vectorworks Library line on Resource Manager and right-click that. You get option to Refresh.

     image.png.bb1ff03b5f685b04ad26d7891666549c.png

Helped me once when some of truss library were missing from my system. Files were on computers file system and restart did not solve the problem.

  13. So let's break this down first.

I'm trying to make lighting device symbol that has barn doors as accessories attached. Just like fresnel would potentially have when you pick it up from case.

My method to add barn doors is,

    1. Import both symbols from library to file.
    2. Edit fixture to add BD on Edit 2D Components
      1.  Using Insert symbol tool add BD to fixture 2D. BD attached to front of fixture
    3. See results, 2D is fine. In 3D there is offset in BD placement.
    4. Correct 3D placement in Edit 3D Components
    5. Oops. 2D placement is center of fixture symbol but 3D placement is correct.
    6. In both cases if you remove and add BD back to Lighting Device with Lighting Accessory tool then BD placement is correct in both 2D & 3D

If I try to correct BD 2D representation to have offset in BD symbol then Lighting Device tool inserts barn doors away from the fixture. See picture in the first post.

When playing around with this now, I found third way to get same kind of almost correct result. Insert fixture, add BD with Lighting Accessory tool, Create Symbol with Create plug-in symbol option and get this on Resource Manager: image.png.a70500ab403a98e8012b3bd357fa2aaf.png

But this way Fixture and accessory gets inserted correctly placed to drawing.

I can kind of see where this issue arises, adding symbol inside symbol when program does not yet know to handle symbols as Lighting Devices. Lighting Device tool on the other hand always deals with  Lighting Devices and knows how relations with different parts should be.

Is there way to get everything to line up correctly?

  14. Hi.

Is this the placement in which you have put your circle segment in symbol? image.png.c26a08ce086c075c61a4f4d952342aad.png

Segment has to start from 0,0,0 and curve to counter clock wise in symbol definition in Resource Manager. Ask me how I know. 🙂 Been there done that. Also I can be wrong but your angle in truss properties might be too big, your connection line seems more curved than your actual truss segment. Connection line should correlate to your truss curvature.

  15. I don't know is there right way of rotating a fixture.

I see that relation to 2D depends on witch axel you rotate a fixture. Fixture 2D has only Z-axle to turn around. Fixture 3D can achieve same end position thru multiple axel rotations. If you rotate fixture so that Z-axle is modified then 2D will also rotate.

If you just want to have fixture rears to point same way rotate fixture on Y-axis.

  16. Hi,

I'm a bit lost here with Lighting Accessories. Does anyone can help me?

If you embed accessory to Lighting Device symbol accessory's symbol gets positioned in the middle of Light symbol. If accessory is removed and same accessory symbol is added with Accessory Tool accessory gets placed correctly.

When embedding barn doors (or scroller) to lighting device symbols you need to offset accessory symbol so it's placement fits correctly to fixture symbol front side. If this embedded accessory is removed with Accessory Tool and added back to Lighting Device, accessory is inserted with defined offset from fixtures lens not from fixtures insertion point. Now there is gap between fixture body and accessory.

    image.thumb.png.4f810e2519109053fb7de5524e42b621.png

Used symbols are form default Vectorworks library.

How to get this work so that I have correctly positioned accessory in embedded symbol even when accessory is removed and inserted back with Accessory tool?

    Test file attached.
