If you're not seeing walls in a v2026 drawing that started life in an earlier version and your wall height doesn't cross the new design layer cut plain that might be at least part of the issue.

    Hi Michael,

Yes, I found that to be true. The file was originally started for a project in 2015 that I'm revisiting.. it's been opened and updated several times, which I think

has caused some anomalies in addition to the differences in wall display in 2026.. def. a bit of a pain to go through the entire file for such things as screen plane items, wall cut planes, old door objects and it goes on and on. etc etc etc

  2. This didn't work for me, aa number of objects were found, but the custom modification palette that appears is unable to change the

attribute from screen to layer plane.

The quickest way I know is to use the Custom Modification command from the Tools Menu and set the selection criteria to Plane > Screen.  Then change everything to Layer in the Object Properties box that appears.

You can make sure that it looks inside groups as well.....

You can also set the tool to create a script which will semi-automate the process after that.

  3. Hi All,

Recently, I've been having one of those vexing but all too common experiences.

i.e.: In a particular file, many elements (walls, windows etc) are not highlighting on hover and some others are.

Makes the file hard to work with.

I'm still in the process of solving this problem, but one of my first steps was to run the repair utility..

The result was "Found and repaired 347 files." OK, so I ran it again... same result.. "Found and repaired 347 files."

Since I have a very fast internet connection, I installed a fresh copy, the ran the repair utility on the brand new copy... same result.

I know that we're not supposed to put too much stock into the results of the repair utility.. but this seems strange..

    Any comments, thoughts, similar experiences?

Is it possible that the install utility doesn't have permission to do the file modification that the repair requires?

    blah, blah, blah...

    Thanks.

  4. Just a comment.. all this fiddling is really non-mac like. I can only speak for myself, as I do have decent technical abilities.

Downloading an  installer, and keeping the incremental updates, can be very helpful for customizing an installation to deal with

bugs that inevitably occur on either the OS side or the VW side. ex> Maybe I'd want to  do an installation of VW on a new machine

that would be then updated to something less than the most recent version.. the new system makes this type of thing more of a pain.

  5. In my experience.. VW has been stable on (developer beta 4) (by my fairly limited testing) with a medium size file consisting of a residential remodel

including a site model, and a number of worksheets..

HOWEVER.. Sequoia  itself kernel panics on sleep, forcing a restart.. so it's not usable for me yet.

  6. I recently used graphic legends developing a kitchen project... worked very well for what I was looking for, the layout took a bit of fiddling

and it's hard to eliminate unnecessary white space as seen below the vertical size of each cell is keyed to the cabinet that's' tallest...

and the layout for the others isn't ideal. Does anyone know a workaround?

But I'm really liking the convenience..Screenshot2023-11-16at10_25_07AM.thumb.png.cb96576c0afad83220121da33ded01ed.png

@dtheory looking through your website you'll probably be happiest heading into twinmotion/lumion/enscape.  They are all fast gpu style renderers and pretty easy to get used to.  I would think the complexity of C4D or some other 3d modeling program+renderer will be too overwhelming for what you produce.

Thanks for the feedback, I was a user of C4D in the past, and yes, it's really not justifiable for what I'm doing now. I'm currently exploring TwinMotion.

  8. Pardon me if this has been covered.. seems like the subject is in flux.

Anyone want to chime in with recommendations for a supplemental renderer for VW Designer.. anything from free on upward..

I'm a solo operation, so probably biased toward low cost and speedy renders.. (pick two.. cheap good or fast!).

    Thanks all..

  9. Hi All,

Is anyone aware of a worksheet criteria that would allow the extraction of square footage (or square inches, whatever) of cabinet doors and/or drawer fronts?

I can ballpark this with cabinet width and height, however, on this project, I have a significant number of "two sided" cabinets, and it would be convenient to extract the

square footage of those parts for estimating purposes, also possibly extract numbers for different door materials such as solid slab, shaker, or glassfront..

    Thanks!
