well we are moving to revit now, and we are going to use either MWF Pro Wood or AGA CAD wood framing suite. sorry Vectorworks!

@Wes Gardner I'm afraid I don't see a whole lot of point in being able to frame something conceptually... that level of architectural detail should be accurate is there any way of using the other framing tools, such as having an array where you can adjust the centres? i was evening wondering if you could put framing or structural members inside of symbols, for example, where you will have repeating windows and therefore have the repeating sill, cripple studs etc... therefore if i edit one window, and edit the height of the sill within the symbol, it will update the framing around my other window instances. or can i join a stud to a header so that if i move the height of the header, the stud height adjusts too?

@Luka Stefanovic more complaints on the wall framing tool - sorry! it doesnt even read how i've joined the corner of my wall - it's ignored the fact that another component extends along with the wall (in this case the OSB sheathing) it only joins the sole and header plates with a mitre join, which i won't be doing because these are for off-site constructed panels and it hasn't place studs at the end of the wall which is structurally not an option! see the 2nd pic for how we would like to frame it...

@Tom W. linear metre total is needed for our embodied carbon analysis but thhe more data we can obtain, the better. the issue with the wall framing tool is that it doesnt update if you, for example, move a wall. you have to run the whole thing again. or even if you just double up a stud, it doesnt update on the worksheets which is very annoying. also everything is extrudes so it runs separately to framing a floor slab or roof. it's also very tricky to run in general, making all the layers and sheets and 2D drawings gets very messy. as an automatic tool it needs a lot of refinement @Luka Stefanovic are any of these improvements likely to happen any time soon?

@Luka Stefanovic i'm not sure that i understand the different between the framing member tool, and the structural member tool. I have been using the former. also, neither of these seem to support vertical elements, only horizontal. what's best for modelling and quantifying vertical timber studs for example?

@line-weight Yes i suppose i can pull from a backup i even tried making slabs without but these days i'm trying to use smart objects and BIM to get embodied carbon analysis of my projects and material quantities mind you this is the only file I've had this problem with
-
@Matt Hall i'm having the same problem! i also cannot reshape the slab if i double click and choose 'edit boundary', there is no shape/polygon corresponding to the slab and i get the error message "the geometry for the slab you are editing cannot be computed" prevously my slabs were linked to walls but every time i reopened the file it lost its associations and the offets became really odd dimensions, like the concrete slab sticking out half a meter past the walls. 103 the ridge.vwx

@Wes Gardner 2021 and it's still the same situation 'studs' are extrudes, and editting the wall frame doesn't update the worksheets. i'm also looking for a way to record the quantity of framing members...

Everytime I open this file, I lose all the slab's associations with walls, meaning I have to redo to the associations, and each of the components offset every time I open the file, to get all my section viewports correct. Is there some kind of setting that means slab wall associations aren't saved when i save the file? 103 the ridge.vwx

@jamesmise you just solved my problem, thank you!

Best NVIDIA graphic card settings for fast OpenGL?

i still dont have an answer for this! -
Wall timber framing AEC tool problem - not aligned with windows when i run framing when internal walls are joined to the external walls, i get a strange problem that makes the frame (studs, header and sole plates) go at an angle and stick out of the wall when i unjoin these and run the tool, the studs do not match up with my external openings also does anyone know if i delete or add any extra studs if the worksheets will update

Section viewport INCREDIBLY SLOW 2020 WHY!? Beyond cut plane
zoeageorg replied to zoeageorg's question in Troubleshooting
@TomWhiteLight hi It wasn't me who actually wrote that about the school's project. Looks like @Redmodro sort of editted what I originally said and even attached my file of my university project -

@Neil Barman i have 'set user origin to internal origin' should that do the trick? -

Section viewport INCREDIBLY SLOW 2020 WHY!? Beyond cut plane
zoeageorg posted a question in Troubleshooting
I am getting so fed up of vectorworks being impossibly slow whenever i cut a section and want to display the objects beyond the cut plane. If i use hidden line, or turn up the sheet layer DPI or open gl quality Ive attached one of my files if anyone wants to try looking CW2 Barracks.vwx -
This file keeps randomly crashing I think it's mostly happening when working on a sheet layer. I think also the service pack was recently updated - possibly SP3? I've got a pretty powerful PC so not sure why i am having this problem I've attached my PC info and the file itself in case anyone can find anything obviously wrong with it! Blackness_CW2.vwx

this file hates making section viewports. they take forever to cut, and any sort of changes i try to make, even just selecting the viewport, freezes the programme for ages. CW2_Blackness._1vwx.vwx

Section viewport not working - red cross x in box
zoeageorg replied to zoeageorg's question in Troubleshooting
the problem was with the 'section line instances' when i ticked the layers i wanted the section to cut through, it starting working don't know what it wasn't automatically cutting through the layers i had switched on when i made the viewport -
The shadows were previously working fine in this viewport, but today when I opened the file and re-rendered the viewport, the shadows wont come on. I've tried inserting a new heliodon, checked my classes and settings the shadows do work when i render with OpenGl so i have no idea what is wrong! Blackness.vwx

background site model and buildings not showing in fast renderworks
zoeageorg posted a question in Troubleshooting
in open gl my viewport is fine but when i go for a render, suddenly my site model and buildings are no longer visible. they are from a referenced file -
I'm trying to create a section viewport on a really simple model of a house there's nothing unusual about it! but when i create section viewport (to a new or existing sheet layer) i just get a tiny box with a red X cross in it. I've tried making sure the layers and classes are on and messed around with a few settings but nothing seems to work

Open GL striped zig zag visual glitch - NVIDIA graphic card settings
zoeageorg replied to zoeageorg's question in Troubleshooting
@John Medland MAIBC thanks so much for this. it seems there was a line floating miles away from my building, after doing some work in elevation! i've deleted this and now when i do fit to objects, it zooms in on everything. and Open GL seems to be behaving now! I was worried the graphics card on my new laptop was failing 😧
