  1. I hate VW worksheets. I can't make them do what I want. It's simple. All I want the worksheet to do is count symbols, and summarize them, but I only want to count 1 layer. There are no options for criteria when creating reports which sucks. OK so we count objects for the entire drawing which creates a huge worksheet because the drawing has been imported from ACAD. The only place I can find that allows me to edit what is on the worksheet is the "paste criteria" I try this. One line: List objects whose ... LAYER ... IS ...LIGHTS Shouldn't that give me a worksheet that only coounts the symbols on that layer? No it doesn't do anything. The worksheet doesn't change it still has 200 ACAD symbols. Why is it so hard to count symbols on one layer? I'm currently using VW12.01 on W2k
  2. OK so your post intrigued me. I edited the symbol and found the 3D locus in there, and it was assigned to the none class, not the non-plot class. I don't have a non-plot class in my class list. I can't make the none class invisible as there are other objects (lot's of them) in that class. Why does the locus render? They don't show up when I export to a jpeg, and they don't print. Is this a bug?
  3. Nope that didn't do it. Thanks for trying. The locus' don't appear in the wireframe render. A coworker is also doing some rendering, and he to has the same objects so it's not specific to me. Anyone else out there? PS this is VW 12
  4. After laborring away to create a 3D model with truss, lights, and venue I have these little 3 pronged x's in all my light fixures. They look like the leftover of a deleted symbol, but they are in the center of the light fixtures, only after a render. It looks lame. Why, and how do I get rid of it?
  5. oh silly me where do I find this command?
  6. OK some more on this. I deleted all layers except my First floor layer. I have a set of columns that will extend beyond the 2nd floor so... I created a new layer, called it 2nd floor and gave it a Z height of 18'6". I go to my first floor, and select my four columns, and then make my 2nd floor the active layer, and paste in place. From a front view the new columns are sitting on the floor in the exact same place as the original columns (yea paste in place!). Here's the kicker. I create a new layer and call it Model, and link my two layers to it so I can render and view them at the same time. Here the layers are lined up correctly and render exactly as I expected them to. WHY? I quit for now. Thanks in advance.
  7. Am I doing something wrong? I have 2 layers First floor 2nd floor. First floor z height is 0 2nd floor z height is 18'6" If I draw an object in plan view on the 2nd floor layer give it an extrusion so it's a 3D object and then switch to the front view my object is only at 14' I'm no 3D master and everything I've done in 3D I've done from one layer and adjusted heights of each individual object. What am I doing wrong?
  8. You're asking for an editable worksheet for symbols that have text linked torecords. That would require each symbol to have it's own unique id. I don't think symbols do that. You could make it a light fixture, and then use the spotlight generate paperwork function. I played around with genereting a worksheet. It sort of worked. The worksheet exported all the text into rows and columns, but I couldn't figure out how to edit an individual line. So in the end no.
  9. Have you experimented with ESP vision? Does this translate at all to that?
  10. Unfortunately it's all about horsepower. My desktop is similar to yours, and when I get a really big show going with many instruments it bogs. Especially when I've got all the fields filled in. Here's a question for NNA: Is there a preffered system build that works best? Do the new dual core porcessors make any difference? Purging unused stuff has helped in the past, but not if you've got 500 instruments and truss everywhere.
  11. I don't know why it's doing that, but you can edit the key directly. It's a group so just right click on it and you can change everything.
  12. I do a lot of shows. Some big some small, and I use LW all the time. But I feel it's mostly a one way street. Yes you can send data back and forth, with changes, but I've found that working on shows that have upwards of a 1000 instruments that data exchange can get complicated. So essentially I export once, and make all my changes in LW If the work sheet could sort with multiple factors, say by position then by instrument #, or by circuit name then circuit # I'd make use of it. The reason I'd want to use the worksheet over LW is that the worksheet is embedded in the program and there is less chance of data corruption or error. But since I can't get it to sort in a way that is usable for me I don't bother with it.
  13. Is the scroll wheel customizable? In 11.5 the wheel moved up and down, and now in 12 it zooms in and out. I'd like to switch it back.
  14. If you're trying to scale a symbol you need to edit the symbol and do the scaling there. Otherwise you might try converting to a group. Groups can be scaled.
  15. I had this happen recently as well. I had done a find and modify to select units, and it grabbed units on another layer. It made autonumbering go crazy. When is the next update do out?
  16. I made my own. These fixtures are still too new to find them mass distributed. You might try the lightnetwork.
  17. Got it. I had instruments on another layer selected, and it was numbering those as well. How's that for a bug! Too bad this is version 11.5.1. Somebody try this in 12.
  18. This is a new one for me, I'm working on a drawing with several hundred light fixtures, and I was number fixtures one truss at a time. I did a set of fixtures on a truss and I realised I missed one. So I selected all the fixtures again including the missing one, and did number instruments. The number started in the tweties. I've tried it on other trusses as well, and it starting a different numbers each time. My latest try started at 19 is skipping number randomly:19,21,24,31,35,38,39,44,47,61,64,65,73 ... WOW Anybody ever seen this? I can use the manual method, but it takes time.
  19. Great. Now if I could just get that 12.01 to actually install. We had a dialogue going with Tech, but that has dried up. We're behind a tight firewall here, and I know that's what the problem is.
  20. Excellent another example of not fixing what's wrong in the current version to promote the user to buy the new one. Thea use a graphic object of some kind. I deleted all the letters and put lines in my symbols to match the USITT standards. However the you will find this specific to the MFL, and 36? as they are identical to the "body symbol" since they have no object in them. The work around for me was to draw a line in the symbol and give it the attributes of "none" in the line weight, and fill.
  21. OK to my frustration I painstakingly built a new work from a copy. I gave it a new name and put all the tools and menu's back where I liked them. I even took the time to move some things around that are better for me. I've been drafting away happy as can be (note: still not all that happy)all afternoon. I closed out of the program while working on something else. When I restarted the program it opened in a different workspace. Classic I believe. OK says I. I'll jsut switch back. Low and behold my workspace isn't in the list. I checked in C:program file\VectorWorks 12\Workspaces. It's there, but the program can't see it. To test whether the program saw any custom workspace I created a new one with a new name, and made some minor changes. I closed out and reopened, and the new workspace is there, but not the one I want. Yes both are in the workspaces folder. I really don't want to rebuild the workspace again.
