  1. Does anyone use the call out tool? We use it all the time, and when you change the scale up, say from 1/16 to 1/8 the text scales up, but the bounding box does not, and the text wraps and it looks like ass. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there something I could do different to make it not happen? VW2010 SP3 Thanks Here's some examples Initial scale 1" = 30' Scaled to 1/8" 1'
  2. Oh lame ass VW. It's the capitalization that's screwing everything up. Some folders where renamed in all caps. So it sorts by folders in all caps first, then a folder without all caps, regardless of spelling. Very frustrating. I'm renaming everything now, and it is sorting correctly.
  3. Then what am I doing wrong? Did you see that as an option or does it just do that automatically for you? My folders are not sorting Alpha numeric. Not when I create new ones, or rename the old ones.
  4. Thanks Pat, I noted VW Spotlight 2010 in my original post. I wonder is this another example of Nemetchek adding a feature to the new release rather than updating an older verion. I'll email tech support, but if the answer is to buy 2011 I'll pass.
  5. Any chance I could get a moderator to respond to this?
  6. Every time I import a DWG file in VW it blows up to 60-150mb which then becomes so slow to navigate. Is there anything I can do to reduce these files sizes? Thanks
  7. Thanks Raymond, Unfortunately that doesn't help. I've tried renaming, but the folders are not sorting alphabetically so adding a number to the front doesn't do anything. I'd be happy with that if it worked. I am curious if anyone knows how the folders hierarchy themselves. Since they aren't alpha-numeric what are they?
  8. OK when I "view as list" I can perform the action you describe, but all it does is switch the order from "top to bottom" to "bottom to top" that doesn't actually change the order of the folders, but once I change back to view as objects it goes back to the previous view. There has to be a way to do this. How does VW decide the order? Can anyone from Nemetschek chime in?
  9. I want to know how to change the order of folders that I view in the Resource Browser. Using VW2010 Spotlight. Starting with my company template which has many symbol folders I have an empty folder called "Current Show" I move various symbols from other folders into this one that are relative to the current project I'm working on. Last year this folder was at the very top of the list, but one of our associates updated our template, and now it's much further down on the list, and I can't find any way to reorder the folders. There has to be a way to change the order of the folders? Anyone?
  10. That is very annoying, but it answers everything. 2 viewports. Why didn't I think of that. Thanks
  11. I have imported a pdf page to its own layer. On another layer I have some Spotlight truss. I have changed both layers to Front view. I drew the truss on the top layer showing the pdf document as a background. Both layers have the same view, and same scale. I'm showing a simple truss arch as it would be in a musuem, the pdf showing a front view of a doorway. When I create a viewport the pdf will not show up unless I set the view to Top/Plan. Of course when I do that I don't get the front view of my truss. I just get the top. This doesn't make any sense to me. When I'm working in my layers I can change to any view, and the pdf layer is always unchanged. I have tried putting the pdf object on the layer with the truss but it has the same effect. I have tried all the ways I can think of to change the properties of the views, but nothing is working. Anyone have any suggestions for me?
  12. When you say 12 you mean VW version 12? I don't think the the 3d only option came out until vw2008. It was a frustrating feature for everyone, back in the day.
  13. Sorry Paul I don't have an answer to that, but I know it's a database issue. All those lights are connected to a database, and when we move them it seems to take forever for it to update. I know that starting in VW2010 alot of what we see on the screen has been moved off the main CPU processor, and onto the video card GPU. I was hoping that would improve how quickly lighting fixtures refreshed. It did not. I'm not in a hurry to update to 2011 until it can be proved it's worth the upgrade (and we have 18 licensees here) Speeding up how fast fixtures refreshed would be a good incentive.
  14. The issue is that when running a report attempting to count lighting devices any fixture that has "set 3D orientation" and data in the x or y rotation boxes is not counted in the report. I'm now understand that the symbol is decomposed to do the rotation but having it not be counted in a report because of that is not acceptable. Can you guys figure out a way that the symbol is counted in a report even if the lighting device is being rotated with "Set 3D Rotation"
  15. If a symbol has been converted to a spotlight Lighting Device If that symbol has 3D info (hybrid symbol) If the "Set 3D Orientation" is checked and data is entered in either the x or y rotation then that symbol will not get counted in a report. Yeah I know that's a long list of if's but here at my office we're starting to use custom reports and more complex layers and classes to sort info on our lighting layouts. We're doing this to try to stream line from design to shop order, and using reports, and sorting by a specific layer and class can give us an exact amount of gear for a specific area. The system works great until today. My coworker had done a 3d model of the room, and noticed that when he did his counts the moving lights were not showing up in the report. After trying lots of combinations we discovered that if the 3D orientation had been modified the instrument did not appear in the report. If we unchecked "Set 3D Orientation" the instrument DID appear in the report. This is definitely a bug as I can recreate it using any symbol that contains a 3D element.
  16. What does that mean? The does contain it? My spotlight workspace contains the Insert Instrument tool. What I want is when I double click on a symbol in the Resource Browser that it doesn't automatically select the Insert Instrument tool.
  17. So as a new "feature" VW now automatically turns on the Instrument Insertion Took when you double click a lighting symbol in the resource browser. This is thoroughly pissing me off. How do I turn this new unasked for feature off?
  18. Raymond, I did that trick, and it imports in 2008 fine, and opens in 2010 with no issues. Ray I can't post the DWG because of disclosure issues.
  19. Every time I try to import a dwg file from AutoCAD VW2010 completely crashes. I've tried several different files, all from the same person, and each one crashes VW. If I use VW2008 it imports fine. I have installed SP3 just now, hoping it would fix the mystery, but alas no. Nemetschek please tell me there's some obvious explanation for this? It's Saturday night, and I'm in my office once again cursing your name to every god I can think of.
  20. I just installed that file path tool, and it works perfect. Thanks so much for that link!
  21. Thanks guys, How sad is it that I have to download a plug in to find the file path "File Path Tools Two tools to work with the file path of the current drawing. One will display the path in a dialog the other will add the file path to the drawing as text and is updatable Contributor: Patrick Higgins Version: VW 10.0" That Mac trick sure would be nice, maybe in Windows 7. Having the file path in the Help drop down would be nice too. Maybe it's a new feature waiting to be implemented in VW2011
  22. I asked awhile ago and never got an answer so I'll ask again. Is there a way to locate where the active drawing is stored? Why? At our company we save our files on a network drive not our local computers and that drive has a lengthy folder tree. From time to time a file gets saved in the wrong folder, and I'll have it in my recent File/Open Recent menu, but can't find it on the network drive. So in VW is there a file path tool somewhere? I'm using VW2008. Thanks -mickey
  23. I have a Design Jet 500, and we recently "upgraded" the driver. Now it won't print lines .05 and smaller. Nice feature. This is with VW2008. I have yet to find a setting to make it work.
  24. OK what gives. If I render in a design layer, everything looks fine. When I create a viewport, and render it my 3d people disappear. Where did they go?
  25. and the FX 5800 is double that price and then some.
