  1. Where is this? I can't find what you're talking about
  2. With the updated video driver so far it's been stable. I have not done the reset preferences gag yet.
  3. I'll start with the driver, and see if that helps, and then the preference reset. Thanks
  4. Now that I'm done posting and restarted I realize I've lost about 45 minutes of work. yeah I know I should save more often. I fear every time we upgrade VW. Here's my official 2 middle fingers to VW2014 Now I'm going home. I'll try again tomorrow.
  5. I had this problem randomly with 2013, but it's consistent with 2014. While working in a file Click File/open/ double click file name- CRASH It's consistent with my machine, but not for other people in the office. That makes me think it's a setting or hardware issue. It's a fairly new machine. Even though I save a lot I lose a little work, and lot of time.
  6. My IT dept installed 2014 while I was away from my desk to test before rolling out company wide. I don't see any manufacturer fixture libraries. I mostly use my own symbols, but sometimes I'll use a VW supplied symbol or modifed version of one. These were found in the Resource Browser for example / files / Library / Vectorworks Libraries / objects-Entertainment/ Lighting-Martin or on the hard drive for 2013 C:\Program Files (x86)\Vectorworks2013\Libraries\Objects-Entertainment Do these not exist for 2014 or did they not get installed on my machine? Thanks
  7. I've done that. Focus point, turn on, 3D object. Nothing
  8. This is supposed to be easy. Start with a blank drawing. Draw a box give it a solid color, extrude it. Insert an ETC S4 symbol. Turn it on. Pick a gobo, render with Custom renderworks. I've gone through the help and adjusted the settings accordingly. No gobo, no beam, no lit fog. no nohting. I dropped in a generic spot lite, and it renders just fine. What am I doing wrong?
  9. I use R2 extensively. Accessing R2 through VW? Are you trying to create a list directly out of the light plot? That hurts my head just thinking about it. I guess it could be possible to have your inventory codes built into every fixture like in a User Field, then do a report with that record. Importing that into R2? I have no clue. have you ever used R2? -mickey
  10. This is all I was doing anyway. I'm not even doing a complete rendering. I'm just rendering a piece of the set in an attempt to figure out coverage. This isn't a typical stage setting. It's an outdoor event being set up overnight in the middle of a street. If I get the lensing wrong and have to re-lens 100 fixtures in the middle of night with a union crew it's going to be very expensive. I'm trying to avoid that. Thanks Now. Where do I get the ETC IES files.
  11. Oh well that sucks. I have a daylight Par made by a european company. It's a retrofitted ETC par body with a MSR575 short arc lamp. I'm just trying to get the shape of the beam right so I can spec my lensing. Is there a way to create an IES file? I just want the oval shaped beam so I can see the coverage. This is way harder than it should be.
  12. That's helpful when I'm doing a light plot, but I'm trying to do a rendering. I could make the draw beam work if it would show the beams on a wall, but it doesn't.
  13. I don't know what other industries you guys work in but it's not a simple client vendor relationship in the event production / Entertainment world. Maybe the producer starts the drawing, or in this case the AV company. The file either gets emailed, or shared via a cloud service and someone else adds in their bits. Riggers add truss, the sound guy adds the speakers, lighting draws in the light fixtures, all on a shared file. If it ever passes through a DWG it all goes to hell. There's no way to lock down your own IP stuff. For this reason we have pretty much given up creating unique symbols and just use the stock stuff that comes with VW or other plug ins. In this case what about protecting the 3D venue that you created? Again I don't have a good answer. Take myself for example. I'm currently working on a model that a producer gave me. It has all the room decor, and structures, and I'm adding my lighting, and then rendering that and sending it back to them. Yup I now have a 3D model of that venue that I've added to my inventory. How to we make a drawing "add only" I can't add lighting to a pdf, and if it's a DWG it might work but when I send it back to you then you have to go through this import process that maybe the geometry doesn't like up.
  14. I'm trying to figure out some coverage, but I don't know how to shape a beam for a PAR style lamp. the options we have only offer spread, and beam, but a par lamp is an oval shape. Is there a way to customize the shape of the beam or is that not a feature in VW? I'm using 2013 SP3 Thanks

    Tree(s)

I have to ask. Do you mean a tree that grows in the forest?
  16. No I definitely have tried changing all the places a color can be changed. Is there any place in a global setting that would affect this change? I tried on my office computer today on a brand new blank drawing, and the drape tool works like you think it should. I change the color in "3D Curtain Option/Opaque" and it works.
  17. This is so frustrating. I've used the soft goods tool to draw some drape. I'd like to change the color of the drape. I've tried changing every place that can take a color. First in the OIP under "3D Curtain Options/Opaque" This is where you'd think it would be but changing this color has no effect on the rendering. I've tried giving the drape a different texture with different colors I've tried changing the fill, and line colors All to no avail. If I make it a Scrim it takes the color correctly, however then it's a transparent scrim, and no long a drape. This used to work. You would just change the fill color, and the drape would change color. I'm using 2013.
  18. A most excellent pillow. Thank You I did some resizing, and now I have pillows on a couch. Excellent
  19. I just discovered a new awesome feature in VW2013. The overlords have taken away another tool I use. Does anyone ever get a random orphan when using Lightwrite? It's way better than it used to be but I still get a few random orphans. When that happens I turn on the column in LW "Vectorworks UID", and look up the UID for the odd ball fixtures Then when I had VW2012 or older I would use the Find and Modify tool and search for "Light (whose) UID = 2492.1.1.0.0" It would select the orphan, and I could then delete it. The orphans are often in out of site places and hard to find. No I don't like to delete them out of LW because sometimes the orphans are real lights with corrupted data, and they need to be updated. Does anyone have another way of searching by UID? Anyone at Nemetschek reading this? Why did you take that away? See attached pictures
  20. Somehow we have a file that one of my guys pulled from the Martin site that has all the Martin VW symbols. It does have a Viper, but we can't retrace our steps to figure out where on the Martin site it came from. Very strange.
  21. I looked at the Martin web page for Vipers and they offer many downloads for their new fixtures, but no native VW symbol. Bringing in a 3D DWG object to use as a symbol is tedious, and usually ends up a resource drain. Anyone have a native VW symbol for a Viper or know where I can get one? I need to see if I refresh my ESP plugins I get a new symbol. I'm sure those guys have to have one by now.
  22. Oh Joy, the refresh instruments fixed it. that just made my day. This makes sense (well not really). I delete things all the time by accident, and CTRL+Z to undo the delete. I'm glad refresh fixes it. Thanks guys much appreciated
  23. Does anyone know how a lighting device gets converted into a "light" I keep having this happen where my instruments get turned into lights, and it's killing me. It has to bee some key board short cut. I usually catch it right away and undo the convert, but on my current plot I had selected a large number of fixtures, and performed this magic trick, and moved onto a different area not realizing what I'd done. Now I'm really screwed. I can't find any tool that "converts lighting device to light" so I can delete the f'ing short cut. Any insight would be appreciated. VW2012 sp5
  24. Great. Now why does it do it wrong on our computers?
  25. Oh silly me I forgot to mention this is 2012 SP5 I've been using 2012 for about 9 months, and this is a fairly recent "feature" My guess is it happened it one of the SP's. but has since been un-featured in 2013. Anyone with 2012 have this problem or am I special, and yes we can recreate the phenomenon across all our machines here in our office so it's not just me.
