Is this possible to create this with the correct area calculation? I tried to clip surface in path ediiting mode of a space drawn. But it doesn't recognize a hole in side of polygon shape.

Let's check this. The default key data base files are stored under VW/plug-ins/common/data/. You can erase the database file, the text file that you created. This might direct you to the default keynote database file and you can start over. Before you earse I recommend to copy it somewhere else if you like to keep the content. Let me add the third thread to this, which is more disappointing. We are talking about symbols and their updates in a dynamic network environment. Suppose the problem mentioned above gone away. One is able to modify a symbol in the master symbol file while others have this file under their resource brower working and at the same waiting to update the symbol after revision is made. Yes revision is made and the master symbol file is closed finally and everyone is trying to update this symbol in their current files. Yes VW asks 'replace/rename/use' dialogue box when it sees the same symbol name in the current file. So you click replace and every instance of this symbol in the file is replaced with all the revisions. Sounds too good to be true. Yet another modification is necessay to the same symbol that just modified. You do the same to modify the symbol in the master symbol file and close it out. This time around though VW do not ask you to 'replace/rename/use' when you try to update the symbol. You click the symbol from master symbol file under resource browser but it is still placing the old symbol no matter what. Only way to bring it the updated symbol is first to erase the old one in my file's resource brower and bring it again from the master symbol file. This means that all the locations and orientations of symbol are lost and you have to place them again each individually. What use of symbol? I am in the middle of a full blown project in VW departing from our previsous Microstation. It has 3 individual buildings, each with 3-stories and mixed used occupants reaching total area of 150,000 sq. ft. Obviously these 3 buildings share a great deal of details in plans, elevations, sections and what have you. We first tried to use symbol referencing between files for common details and that didn't work because of update sequence and circular referencing (let me know if you want to hear about it) and second we tried to use just plain symbols through resource brower and it didn't work. We are about to give up on symbol at last.

Yes, unfortunately. Our office had gone through incredible pain to work around this feature(?). You are very correct that if anyone in your office has the master symbol file under his/her resource brower, you can not open the master symbol file because having a file under the resource brower means that VW thinks this file is open ( explaned by VW tech on the phone rather bluntly by creating the same situation at their desk). I do not know what good it is to have the resource broswer if all the files under are locked to prevent any modification.

Try this before you modify keynote or general note text files in text editor. Erease some notes from key notes manager so that the list falls under 250 lines. If your problem goes away, they you can create another data base so that you can add more notes. If you still have the problem, you might want to open the text file and see whether it is sound or not.

Yes. But if the content of the symbol had modified, it should keep asking 'use/rename/replace' in order to reflect those changes in the symbol. But it doesn't work.

First of all, you have to know that the any data base file, which exists as a text file format, has limitation of 250 lines. In other words, if the file has more than 250 lines of notes, it will give an error message (your third question might be resloved here) . This means that you have to divide and orgainze somehow your note data base into several files and change up & down in Keynote preference menu to move around them. Locating these text files in a server seems to be working file so far in our experience.

Whenever I bring a symbol into the current drawing from other files through resource brower, I suppose to be asked whether I want to replace the existing symbol or use the one already in the file if the symbol name is identical. At least this is the way the I understood how the symbol works. But I have experienced serveral times so far that this symbol replacement process is not working. It works only the first time when I bring in the symbol with the same name. But afterward it does not ask me to replace or use the symbol. I am wodering this is the way VW supposes to behave or another one of those bugs. Does anybody has the same experience? Mac G4. OS 10.2.8 and VW 10.5

On network environment if I want to add a file in server to my favorites under resource browser, Does that file have to be closed out? I am on VW 10. on OS x.

We are using this symbol referencing extensively in our office where you attach a file by workgroup reference without a specific layer clicked, and bring in symbols under resource brower of that file so that we share all the same symbols between files and throught the project. Names of brought-in symbols become italized under current file resource browser to indicate these are shared. But some reason, these symbols are copied into current file instead of brought-in because their names are not italized and whenever we update our source file, these symols do not reflect the change, which we used to do. Does anyone have any idea?

'If a file is already referenced in a target file, and a user wants to update it, this works fine as long as the referenced file has been saved. Otherwise, I don't know why you are having trouble.' This I cannot do assuming that the referenced file doesn't have to be closed while updating. The file is already referenced in a target file as you mentioned and whenever I try to update referenced file in a target file, I have to close the referenced file. I understand when you reference for the first time, the referenced file has to be closed.

I ask this again. If someone is in a file that is refereced to my file that I am currently working on, Can I not update this file without having him or her to quit out the file? I am just trying to figure out if this is the problem of our network system which is Mac X server or if this is the way it is in Vector Works that a file can not be accessed for update while it is open. I am using VW 10 on OS X on G4.

Is this only my problem? Noboby has seen this? Please let me know. We are using Os X server, individual boxes are either on OS9 or OS X with VW 10.

Is there any way to create a symbol that is proportional to layer scale?

After few experiments, I can use customized wall types by 'apply this wall type to selected wall' in wall type dialogue box after a wall is drawn. So somehow wall type tool doesn't bring in a selected wall type from the wall type library. By the way I am on VW 10.1.2 on Mac G4.

I was using a custom set of wall types through preference set located in our server. For some reason, I can not bring these wall types anymore. I see wall types that I created when I open wall type dialogue box as well as in the wall type library.txt. But the wall type tool doesn't seem to regonize the type that I select. Any hep?

Is there a way to retrieve values from the space tool dialog box or object info box, such as space name, number, length, width and etc, and make a schedule ? Unlike wall type tool, space tool does not create a record format. Where do these values stored? How can I set a criteria in worksheet o take these values?

This might be our network problem but i am curious if anyone has this problem before. When I open two files in my box, OX10.2 on G4, which are referenced each other and stored in server, I am able to update a referenced file without any problem while two files are still open. However, if these two files were opened separately in different computers on network, the referenced file can not be updated unless the file is closed. Somebody know why? Is this a fixable problem? If we have to close files everytime update is needed in multi-user environment, this is not good.

No, I don't think so. It is a siteplan with a survey file referenced. The survey file was originally DWG file and converted into mcd. Any thoughts?

Has anyone experienced this? Whenever I try to save a sheet, VW quits out mercylessly. I am on VW10.1. on Mac OX 10.2.5 Previously this file had few saved sheets that did not appear on the list when I click 'edit sheet' command. So I deleted these sheets from script palette assuming its malfuctioning and start anew. Since then, above problem persists.

Does anybody know a good way to draw spray applied fire resistant material around structural elements like beam, column, joist etc? I was using bubble clouds but it is clumsy because clouds are meant to be drawn by free hand tool and has to be a closed element.
