  1. No. You have to export as dwg from microstation and import this dwg in VW. If you use VW 11, and fine tune your export settings on microstation, results are not that bad.

    Callout Tool

Few times I have experienced this new callout tool in VW 11 is not working properly. I am trying to understand how this tool is layed behind the scene. (I could not make a good sense from exported file script) In one file, I have notes created by callout tool, but not recognized as callout for editing. When I click the note, the object info sees it as an PIO but does not see it as callout tool. It is as though I don't have this script in my plug-in folder, which I have. Could someone explain to me why this is happening? and Any quick fix? There seems to be a hidden record where callout tool is referring.
  3. Are you familiar with PlugIn objects, so called PIOs? We call it as a smart object that is unique to VW. It is like a symbol in AutoCad, and a cell in Microstation. But it does have parameters where you can adjust certain numeric values. Instead of having every size of windows as symbols, (this is what, I think, you are trying to do), VW provides you a window PIO. There you can adjust width, height as you wish.
  4. I had the same thing happening to my one file and posted here. But unfortunately it is not a consistant problem and tech can not reproduce this in their end to see what went wrong. In short, I learned that it is sheet layer related with viewports in them. Try to create a new layer and move everything to that layer. It is a tidious solution but seems to be only one so far.
  5. Or you can set the short key assignment by editing your workspace.
  6. Yes, I ran disk utility a couple of days ago. This happens when I click 'quit VectorWorks' from 'VectorWorks' pull down menu. I don't think it happens when I close a file while the application is still open.
  7. Several in our office are experiencing this when we quit out of VectorWorks. Instead of closing application, we often get a warning message saying 'VW has unexpectedly quit, do you want to send a report to Apple?' This doesn't harm any of our work because it always happens when we quit VW, but I am curious why this is. Has anyone have the same experience? We are on VW 11 on OS 10.3.4, either G4 or G5.
  8. As we proceed to VW 11 at full throttle, few problems are found in callout tool. 1. text style ; whenever I edit the text, the style of text goes back to default. A note is created with default font, universal 45 light, and few notes I click 'bold option' later to emaphasize the content. Whenever I edit this text though, it goes back to default font loosing 'bold' click. 2. 'Alway left-justify text' toggle only works when the text goes over more than one line length. If the text is shorter than one line, it justifies differently. 3. changing class of note in Viewport annotation; This is not a consistant problem, might be a file specific. When a note is created by callout tool in view annotation, the active class becomes the class of this note. However when we want to change the class of this note through object info parlette later, we can not. Object info parlette shows the class that we want to change to, but actural callout note is still in the class that it was created. We know this by clicking on/off that specific class. This seems to happen on the files that was converted from VW10.5. 4. Another instance of irregular problem is when callout tool does not trigger the textbox at all. When callout icon is click and a leader is drawn on screen, the next in order to bring up the text box to enter the content. But it place '<>' automatically without bringing up the text box and terminate callout procedure. If this happens, neither double clicking nor clicking 'edit note' on object info parlette works in order to enter a text. The best bet is to close out VW and restart computer. I could not nail down a specific instance when this happens. At least so far this happens only in viewport annotation mode. Anybody else has anything else to clean up?
  9. Thanks for your reply. Is there a reason to insist on using site modifier instead of copying and altering topos then create a model from it?
  10. I am wondering how to manuplate existing topo lines in order to generate a proposed site model. Even though VW provides site modifier to regrade existing, there are times when we have to do it manually. If this is the case, where should I do this? I now have a layer with 3d ploygon data for existing site and a layer where the generated site model resides. It seems that I have to create another layer where existing 3d polygon data are copied and altered in addition to site modifier and create a proposed site model from it. Is this a correct?
  11. You can also toggle on "keep in current document" when to remove a referenced layer.
  12. I was wondering if there is a way to maintain this overlay mode applied to a layer without making linking layer overlay.

Is there a way to connect two walls on the same directional line?
  14. does not work. It looks like a bug or is it meant to be? Any fix soon?

    Saved view

    Is this the only way?

    Saved view

I keep loosing saved views on my file on VW 11. I see them under script palette on resource brower, but do not see them under saved view bar at the bottom of screen. Even though I click or run the saved views on script palette, nothing happens. I was wondering if I can transfer saved views from the backup file which still has working saved views. By exporting the file as a script, I did not see any saved views. Is a saved view independant from a file? Where do they reside? Could somebody explain how this saved views work in terms of script?
  17. Yes. Do you think it is a permission related problem?
  18. For some reason, the spinnig beach ball doesn't stop on VW 11. It happens every once a while and the only way to get out of it is to force quit VW 11 even though I loose my work from the last backup. From OS X, activity monitor shows 'VectorWorks(Hung)' in red. I have not seen this (Hung) before. Any idea? It seems that every time the beach ball starts to spin, I was zooming in and out on a screeen. I tried to work on the same file both in my hard drive and in the server. But doesn't make a difference. I check all the permissions yesterday and ran some other disk utilities to clean up my system which OS 10.3 on G4 with 1g ram.
  19. Something isn't working when you try to extend one side of polygon from space tool by filing in the data field value of L. Does anyone have the same problem? In a rotated rectagle, which is a polygon, I can extend one side by setting edge snap to the perpecular side and give a specfic L value. This offsets that side by a specfice distance of L. When I tried the same procedure after converting this polygon to space, it doesn't work. In VW 10.5, both cases work, I just tested.
  20. What would be the best way to make a pad that has one side retaining wall? Should I use landscape wall tool? If so, then how I can connect the fence from pad fence to this landscape wall fence?
  21. Yes. Before I update, I made sure the referenced file was updated to 11. In relation to this question, I see button 'edit script' on Edit Saved View dialog box. What does this do? I expected it would show script lines for that specific view, but I see nothing in script editor when click this button.
  22. No. All the views were set in the file. I did not use any of template files not to import the scripts resource from other files. By the way, is it possible to transfer saved views between files via script resource broswer? I tried but didn't work.
  23. Well, I see my previous saved views on my resource broswer under script folder, but do not see under saved view icon at the bottom of screen. When I click to edit saved views on the resource brower, an empty script editor opens. Any idea? Only thing that I did was to update a referenced layer which was originally in VW 10. But after I updated that file to VW11, I open this file and updated.
