  1. Patrick, It looks like for this other DTM, the issue is related to one of the retaining wall site modifiers directly. Removing it, but making no other changes, corrects the rest of the file. (Images attached) If you recreate this modifier as a test, then update the site model, do the lines reappear?
  2. Patrick, Looks like this was corrected in (the just released) SP1, tested here and I no longer see those random triangles. http://www.vectorworks.net/downloads/ServicePack.php?major=2014&servicepack=1 The OP of this thread however, was indeed submitted as a separate request.
  3. I think there was a reason for not having an update button on DLVPs... but at the moment I really can't think of what it was and I can't think of another reason for there not to be. Submitting now.
  4. The idea is simply akin to presetting the page size and clicking scale to fit. For component printing you would use this for the largest component to identify the upper limit. I see what you mean and it does make sense, I think with a little tweaking that concept could be integrated into a UI element that would be useful for other industries as well.
  5. It looks like the size issue the file is having is because under File > Document Settings > Document Preferences > Display, the option for "Save Viewport Cache" is checked. This is saving the renders of each of the viewports. This setting will save you time not having to re-render after opening and closing the document, but will increase file size. However, it seems like the sluggishness in the file is coming from the Unshaded Polygon viewports. When I either delete them or render them in something else, such as Hidden Line, the speed improves dramatically. Going to do some more testing and submit the file if it turns out the Unshaded Polygon rendering has an issue.
  6. Maybe to make it a feature that could work for multiple industries as well as 3D printing, a "3D Boundary" as an interface item could be set. Sort of a 3D page area that you could set as a document preference. Then it may be helpful in keeping within zoning limits for architectural/landscaping projects as well. However the ability to set this build area during the STL export process may be more useful... Kevin- For the time being, I'm creating an article for the kbase on good STL export procedures, would you mind if I used a few items from your posts on the topic?
  7. The easiest way to get the images from textures (they are in libraries, but not as raw images) is to right click on any texture in the resource browser and choose "Extract Image(s)" Then you can save it wherever you'd like, modify it, then create textures from the modified image afterwards. The default location for textures however, just for reference: Vectorworks 20XX > Libraries > Defaults > Textures
  8. I like it. I would even go so far as to suggest something similar to the Publish or Export DWG profiles, that let you save a specific set of settings for easier export to multiple collaborators/printers/methods of manufacturing. Submitting in a few separate requests.
  9. Agreed. I always have to run any exported 3D models from Vectorworks though Netfabb and repair their parts before slicing. Having the 3D solids export processes perform more conversion to generic geometry/single objects automatically is more likely to come sooner than a revamp of how our solid modeling engine functions at its base level, so i'll submit those two concepts separately. Does anyone have any files where they've noticed the export of one object becomes multiple separate solids afterwards to 3DS or STL I can submit as an example? (If not I'm sure I can mock one up, just wanted a real-world example.)
  10. Ill see if I can replicate the issue here, if I cant, then we will look more closely into your specific machine to see if the problem lies there. If I can replicate the problem, then we can see if its some setting within the file or if it would be something that requires a patch. Most likely it will either be document or machine-specific.
  11. Some PDFs you can ungroup and it works great, leaving a bitmap that can be easily cropped, but it depends on the source of the PDF. As stated above, a Right Click > Edit Crop for an already-cropped object (to match the Viewport editing UI) or selecting both a cropping object and the image/PDF with Right Click > Create Crop as a contextual menu item for both bitmaps as well as PDFs would be excellent. I'll note that in the feature request.
  12. Thats a bit large, but it isnt always possible to tell from filesize. Go ahead and send the following: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/627/DirectX+Diagnostics+and+System+Profiler to tech@vectorworks.net with the subject "ATTN Jim" and I can take a closer look. I want to take a look at the file too, but since its most likely too large to email directly, i'll reply back with a link you can use to upload it.
  13. Regular "Print Double Sided" should indeed be an option in your printer configuration directly, not from Vectorworks. However that kind of double sided is just to save paper normally. If you mean the pamphlet-style printing where each page is double sides but oriented such that a stack can be stapled or bound together into a booklet format, then that may be something for the wishlist. Some word processing applications and most graphical design software includes and interface for that so it wouldn't be unreasonable.
  14. I can't speak much to the reshape-ability of plugin objects directly being added to Vectorworks, I have heard it discussed repeatedly here and apparently there are exceedingly complex concerns if all plugin objects were to be modifiable in that way. However, in any case you should not be getting regular crashing, please reply back either in a post here or to tech@vectorworks.net with the following and we can have a closer look: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/627/DirectX+Diagnostics+and+System+Profiler
  15. Got it. However the "best" way to go about something like this is a bit beyond my pay grade, submitting now.

  18. Agreed, I personally think that removing the numpad should be a capital offense for hardware manufacturers... but many seem to be going that direction and there needs to be a way to compensate. Submitting now. (Also: I love Netfabb for cleaning up STLs before slicing to gcode, it just makes life so much easier.)
  19. Does this only happen on that particular drawing or will it occur in any file with a few viewports in that rendering mode? If you change the option under File > Print for "Update visible out of date viewports" does it affect the print speed? (regardless of whether they are out of date or not) What DPI are your sheet layers set to?
  20. Yes, please contact support. This issue is normally graphics card related: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1171/Solid+orange+highlighting+on+Viewports%2C+Symbols%2C+and+Groups+etc
  21. To be honest leaking or trickling features out really has never come in during any of the meetings I have been to. A lot of the decision making process is what features need to be paired with other features functionally, or which features can be made completely ready and be tested adequately before release. I know it may seem that features are intentionally withheld, but I can tell you that personally I have never seen or heard management make such a decision here. The normal reason features are cut or don't make it in is because we felt the feature wasn't ready, or because it will be tied in with a change that has yet to be made. However Cadplan, if you have any specific requests that you have submitted in the past or have yet to submit, now is absolutely the time to submit them while the planning stages of the next version are still in session. Please either make a wishlist request for specifics, or link me to where they were submitted before and I will get them up for review ASAP.
  22. You should still be able to have images with transparencies/alphas in 2014. Could you send me one of the images that you are seeing that problem with please? Either as an attachment here or emailed to tech@vectorworks.net with the subject "ATTN Jim" is fine.
  23. 1) Onyx is excellent and should be used monthly. 2) Bill, please reply back with the following from both of those machines http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/627/DirectX+Diagnostics+and+System+Profiler Also, are you having the crashing on both of them, or only one is experiencing the crashing?
