  1. Excellent idea, submitting request now. Not only the Line Types issue from the other thread, but it comes up a lot when you've already imported geometry that has textures associated with it. During import, there are options to control it, but if you want to clean it up afterwards, everything currently has to be done manually.
  2. Also noticed in testing the handrails aren't creating nice smooth curves in 3D as they do in 2D, submitting that separately: 2D: 3D:
  3. To be honest I hardly ever create objects like the handrail with any method other than Create Objects / Convert, because of how difficult the default tools are to use in many situations, like this one exactly, which makes a strong case for always having objects respond to the Reshape tool and to have control handles for editing after creation. Handrails currently don't have either of these. Any other PIOs that you've come across that have been particularly painful in this regard? I'll include them in the request.
  4. Do you have the same problems converting polygonal geometry (Via AEC > Create Objects From Shapes > Handrails) to Handrails directly, rather than trying to manually fit it afterwards?
  5. Currently a viewport with a foreground rendering of Hidden Line and a background rendering of the rendering mode you want the shadows from (the Realistic Colors White renderworks style, for example) is the normal way to accomplish it. There are a few requests in already to have Hidden Line include an option for shadows though, as having to wait for a complex rendering mode to finish as well as Hidden Line takes entirely too long just to get the desired shadows.
  6. I have many users that have upgraded to Mavericks, uninstalled and reinstalled Vectorworks, then had no problems in the application. I have also had users (less than those experiencing no problems, but still more than a few) that specifically have run into: -Attempt to install and the installation fails -Fail/crash when exporting to DWG -Fail/crash on anything involving OpenGL rendering Since it isn't supported any longer, we don't have any official/extensive testing results of what specifically all the issues are, these are the ones I have heard of personally from users.
  7. You can try simply backing up and resetting preferences: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1099/Resetting+Vectorworks+Preferences However, if the plugin still doesn't function, the healthiest option is a complete uninstall and reinstall: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1105/Uninstalling+Vectorworks
  8. It sounds like a popup is appearing either behind the drawing area or offscreen, or on another monitor. Does your machine only have one screen currently? Does the issue only happen with that specific set of files?
  9. If you change to a different workspace, does the same error appear when you use the tool?
  10. I would assume this would simply be the Lighting Pipe tool instead of the Lighting Pipe Ladder tool. By default they should both be listed in the Spotlight tool set palette in the Spotlight workspace. If you are using another workspace or a customized one, you may need to add the tool to your workspace via the workspace editor: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/745/Workspace+Editor
  11. I often find if I open and repair my exported STL files from Vectorworks in the free netfabb basic utility, I get much better print results: http://www.3daddfab.com/blog/index.php?/permalink/Automatically-Repair-STL-Files-in-2-Minutes-with-netfabb.html Normally I only need to use the Automatic repairing of STLs, but there is a more in-depth manual method detailed here as well: http://3daddfab.com/blog/index.php?/archives/11-Use-netfabb-to-Manually-Repair-STL-Holes,-Edges-and-More.html It is capable of confirming that objects are manifold as well as clearing out self-intersecting solids and coplanar surfaces.
  12. I am able to control the viewports opacity only via class now, not via the object itself, you are correct. However I just went back as far as VectorWorks 12.5.3 and can not see direct opacity control via the attributes palette on any viewports I select. Do you know which version you last saw this in? In any case I'll submit it as an enhancement request.
  13. I am pressing the Submit button for this request with a hammer.
  14. I don't think any significant changes have been made to the Stipple tool in years.
  15. Agreed, the Stipple tool is definitely showing its age. A general inquiry, what do you use Stipple for that wouldn't be better served by a pattern/hatch/tile fill, or a duplicate array instead? I assume the randomization is key, but just getting feedback.
  16. Adding these recommendations as well, I had not thought to specifically mention that options for placing in a grid/distributed randomly and random scaling would be needed.
  17. It turned out there were two lines something to the effect of 10e27 meters from the original geometry, which can cause issues with rendering. To identify the problem, we (Mike Groves, another Tech here who got to your email before I did) used Edit > Select All, then View > Zoom > Fit to Objects, which showed the geometry far from the documents origin. Then, we simply selected your intentionally drawn objects, then used Edit > Invert Selection, to select anything other than your table, which gave us the selection of two line objects. Once these were removed, the rendering engine was able to do its job without failing. For both you and any other users that may come across this thread, more info on working with the origin can be found here: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1147/Origins+and+Large+Coordinate+Values
  18. Does it always happen with the same file? Is it a certain kind of object that loses textures, or doesn't seem to matter? any specific textures that are always lost, or does this also seem random? If you can send me one of the older version files where this has occurred, I can test converting it here: tech@vectorworks.net
  19. Not yet. Though many applications have this as a fundamental component of their 3D modeling systems (Cinema 4D and 3D Studio come to mind). I and others have submitted requests for this ability.
  20. Ive added a wish for either a modification to the Symbol Insertion tool, or a new tool/command altogether that allows the placement of any kind of symbol (not just plants) within a user drawn or specified area, that allows for both specific counts of each symbol, as well as a percentage system similar to landscape areas that lets users to place symbols in this manner. Random rotation as a toggle-able option. Specifically requested that it available outside of just the Landmark package. I see this being useful for the creation of not only grass, but natural looking wooded areas as well as theatrical crowds/audiences.
  21. Actually we just released something to that effect: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/1197/Reducing+file+size+and+increasing+the+speed+of+3D+geometry
  22. I still get nipped by things like Unified View and Layer Stacking on occasion, no shame in it. Hopefully some good will come of the request and this will save future users a headache.
  23. Just posting so the community can see this as well: It turned out one of the saved views included the Clip Cube, so even just entering that saved view will enable the cube. After that point, normal view changes will NOT disable the Clip Cube, a user would have to go manually to another saved view that didn't include it, or disable the cube intentionally, in order to get a regular view back. I'm going to put in a wish for a quick alert (that can be dismissed forever if the user desires) when users switch to a saved view that has a Clip Cube on it.
