  1. No, I received an email from unreal and followed the instructions for downloading: To install your copy of Twinmotion 2020, open the Epic Games launcher and log in with your Epic account. Select the Twinmotion page in the Unreal Engine tab, and click Install above Twinmotion 2020.1. Follow the prompts to complete the process.
  2. Mine is loading correctly. I wonder if there is any way to bring back the old people. The new version (ok, this is going to make me sound old, which I guess I am) seems like everyone is young hipsters. Harris now has a high ponytail. There were only a handful of characters appropriate for my work and now it seems there are very few that I might be able to use. And I'm still struggling with the lighting.
  3. Yeah, playing with it now. Opened an old file and the lighting is totally changed, as in I need to reset everything but now my lights don't seem to be working. As I'm almost always doing interiors with no exterior light, I always turn the sun off and depend on lights with some ambient lighting. Not sure how that's going to work in the new version, looks like ambient may be dependent on sunlight. I'm going to try a totally new file.
  4. I'm having to constantly reset the Project File, I've done it twice this morning and at least once yesterday. We have the project file on Dropbox and our working files on each user's hard drive. I've cautioned all users to be sure that they have given Dropbox time to properly sync (I did this a couple of weeks ago) but we're still having the issue. At this point, I'm hoping we can just limp to the finish line of this project (a couple more weeks) and then, unless I find a solution, I'll give serious thought to not using Project Sharing in the future. If I do, I'll probably limit to 2 or 3 users and everyone else will have to reference. For some reason, VW constantly produces .bak files that do not get deleted. This seems to be an issue with multiple users on PCs. I've tried deleting them manually but that doesn't seem to help. I've looked for invisible file thinking there was some temporary lock file that was getting hung up but couldn't find any. Is there a limited number of users we should stay below? We have 16 listed but a number of those are actually the same user under different names; actually only 11 active users. We are in probably a half dozen locations and mixed Macs and PCs. I'm thinking we're expecting more out of VW Project Sharing than it can deliver.
  5. I thought I recalled an announcement somewhere that VW and Twinmotion are working on a plug-in where you could work in VW and immediately see your work in TM. I also thought I recalled TM saying raytracing was coming as well. But that may have been someone higher up speaking and making the programmers think "yikes!". Seems like it should be an option even if it means longer rendering times to achieve that level.
  6. Thanks, milezee. This particular client is a contract client, not speculative work so we are getting paid for these designs and renderings. I mostly work on jobs we already have, making them real. Mostly what I work on is the trade show aspect of the corporate event. This client does not allow exhibitors to bring their own displays; we design and build just about everything, along with the staging for the general session, builds for smaller sessions, meal rooms, and a concert production, etc. Our main speculative designer uses C4D; we're trying to reel him in a bit to use VW more before he takes it into C4D so that we have something to start with rather than just his rendering as a jpg.
  7. Well, we never did solve the above issue, not sure what was happening on his end, I believe he just gave up on using TM. I tried to do some research but didn't find anything much, especially recent; I'm wondering about TM vs Artlantis. They seem very similar to have been developed by the same company. I used Artlantis over 20 years ago and I've downloaded it a couple of times to try out but always got too busy to get anywhere during the trial period. But, I downloaded TM and I have been using it regularly. So now I'm wondering, when Unreal comes out with TM2020 with a VW plug-in and a price tag, should I push for my company to purchase it or Artlantis? As to what I'm doing, it is not architecture; we do corporate events. So most of my renderings are interior and I set the sun to zero. I do commonly build out the facility interior. I have noticed that TM doesn't do much in the way of "drop shadows", say shadowing under a picture hanging on the wall. I do use the plants pretty often, as one of our main clients sells plants. I've found the plants in TM to be a bit limited as I need more small plants rather than trees, but they look lot better than the ones in VW. I've played around with creating animations and would like to do more but when I've showed them to people in my company, their reply was along the lines of "that's cool but if we show the client that, they'll want it every time". For this one particular client, we end up creating hundreds of renderings (a lot of simple OpenGL stuff plus a good number of nice renderings) with lots of revisions so they have a point. I'm mainly using TM for the lighting, superior textures (though a lot I just bring over from VW as they are product specific (client sells flooring, etc) and the people.
  8. I'm trying to get a coworker up and running in TM. He's in another office but we've talked on the phone. I gave him access to one of my TM files and also the C4D file, textures, and the VW file. He can open my TM file and sees the scene, no problem. But, if he closes that and tries to import the C4D file, the import fails, he gets nothing. I've walked him through it and he's doing everything the same as me, importing set to geometry, etc. I had him check the list of materials on the right side and they are not there, he just has the initial empty environment that TM starts with. He's not facing the wrong way or anything, when I import it, I can see the roof of the model that the view is above. Any idea what his problem could be? TIA
  9. I export as C4D with sort by texture and I'm not having any problems. You're sure it's not a class issue? I'll sometimes turn a class off when working in VW and then when I re-export items have disappeared. Really the only problem I have had is with transparency masks. I've had them work no problem but other times I can't get them to work at all, no matter when I try.
  10. Though I've used Macs for the last 33 years, if I decide to have my company buy a workstation, which I am considering, I will more than likely go PC. Apple's continuous "we're serious about the pro/no we're not" cycle has made me lean away from Apple. I'll do some cost comparisons but at this point with Apple's on again/off again interest in the pro market, I don't think I can justify a premium price. Makes me kind of sad, the new pro models are way too late and I think Apple may discover that when the Pros don't come flocking to them like they used too.
  11. @Mark Aceto, sounds like we're in similar industries. I'm a production designer for a company that does corporate events. Personally, I work more on the trade show aspect of these; we have other designers who work on stage productions. As such, I won't make much use of rain, snow, setting suns, moving cars, etc; though sometimes I do a little outdoor work. Decent people in renderings is very welcome, though. Thinking about it, I agree that using an external renderer for presentations is fine. I use OpenGL and Custom Renderworks a lot that live on sheet layers but very often my high end renderings are used in live presentations where sheet border and title blocks aren't desired and get cropped out if I include them. Thanks for the help and tips all.
  12. Cool, thanks! I messed around using merge but this looks like a better method.
  13. Just came across this on architosh.com: "Our LiveSync technology enables our support now of Lumion, and we are working on support for Twinmotion and Enscape as well." - Dr. Biplab Sarkar, CEO
  14. I would love a VW to Twinmotion plug in. I can't really make use of Twinmotion without one, too much of the time my designs require revisions and it doesn't make sense to redo TM work. Meanwhile, I can do some pretty good renderings in RenderWorks but they lack the punch of a renderer like TM and I feel like I'm falling behind; I need to kick it up a few notches and the plug in would give me that opportunity.
  15. Once I've exported to C4D and imported into Twinmotion and worked on the file, is there a way to make revisions in VW and have them updated in TM without having to redo all my TM work, like I used to be able to do with Artlantis? I'm guessing not without a plug-in. It's been twenty years since I used Artlantis, btw! It's been fun playing with TM, takes me back to the simplicity of Artlantis.
  16. One thing is, I am the keeper of a master file on a lot of my work. Other people are then referencing my master file and creating their own documents (lighting design, rigging, electrical, etc). So would it be an issue if they are referencing my master file that has references to outside files? They would need access to the file I am referencing to see rigging points, etc. in the facility.
  17. I was wondering if referencing might help, thanks for the suggestion. A lot of my files include a large facility auto cad import (2D) with a ton of classes. And then a 3d model of the facility I build. And then I start my actual design project to go inside. I'm going to try referencing the facility and 3d base model.
  18. I'm here for the same reason as the OP, constant crashing of VW16. It's crashed at least 5 times on me today, three different files. I've had issues with 16 ever since I got it back in April. And the rendering time is now so long a lot of the time, much longer than earlier versions. Some of the new features are great for simple stuff but if the model is at all complex (most of mine are) using them and dealing with crashes and long rendering times makes them useless, I turn them off and still get crashes. Meanwhile the updates seem to be coming very rarely and when they do, I don't see any improvements. One of my co-workers has switched back to 3ds Max because it renders so much faster.
  19. Try making the initial shape a symbol before your copy it about 200 times. And the reason I'm here is because version 16 crashes constantly on me with complex models. Previous versions didn't.
  20. I've had that problem in the past and just last week. Sometimes I've had images fine in Open GL that then flip in Custom RW, in fact, i am updating last weeks file and the texture map moves up and flips. I just adjust it to be correct in Custom RW, don't have the time to track down why and I don't care about the Open GL rendering. A lot of my work is too complex for Open GL so I work in wireframe most of the time (plus I'm old school) and render in Custom.
  21. agreed, use Photoshop and save yourself a lot of trouble chaz
  22. ok, sig in place. All my user info was from two jobs ago! I didn't use VW in my last position, glad to be back. chaz
  23. hmm, not sure if I used the Sheet Border tool or not. Since I'm not sure what that even is, probably not! I'll check on it. Yep, using a Mac, I thought I had my signature set to show. thanks chaz
  24. I created a custom title block and included a date stamp. Problem is, it will not update unless I go in to edit the symbol. I tried "reset all plug-ins" from the tools menu and export pdf dialog box, neither will update within the symbol. I tested the date stamp being outside of the symbol and it updates fine. But I really don't want to have to put a date stamp on every single sheet in the file, somewhere around 80 sheets. I guess it is set up this way so that dates on sheets are only updated if they change? I would like the date for the whole document updated.
  25. I have applied a texture to a multiple extrude object. The texture map shows when rendered in OpenGL but does not show in Fast, Custom, nor Artistic rendering modes, though other texture maps in the scene do show. I tried playing around with the mapping but still doesn't show. The object is a bucket so the multiple extrude is basically a cylinder with slightly slanted walls and I have set the mapping to cylinder (played with other setting to try to get it to show). Any ideas? Trying to map a logo onto the bucket, basically set up my texture as a large rectangle with the bucket color and the logo as using the "decal" to try to slap the logo on was not working at all. VW Spotlight with RW 2013 with SP 4 15" 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 Macbook Pro with 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB OS X 10.8.3 27" Cinema Display It is a big file, 251MB! thanks, chaz
