  1. I created the columns by drawing rectangles and then using the "column" menu command. My problem is that if you choose "class texture" instead of an individual texture, the column is rendered as a solid color with no texture. This behavior is different than with roof, wall, extrude, or floor objects, which render correctly when using "class texture". Is this a bug? Is this issue making sense?
  2. For some reason, any columns will render without a texture if the Object Info menu is set to "class texture". You have to set the texture manually to get it to work. Is there any way around this? It's frustrating. OS 10.2.8 VW 9.5.3
  3. If you restart the computer do theh problems go away for a little while and eventually come back? Yes. Usually after an hour or two. Do the problems just start right off the bat? It's hard to say How long are you in the program before you crash? Sometimes a long time, sometimes a short time. Sometimes it crashes after I wake up from sleep. How much built in memory do you have? 512 MB. Somehow I doubt it is memory related. So how would fixing the permissions affect VectorWorks? Yesterday I fixed them 3 times with no effect. I even reinstalled the program this morning and it crashed after an hour of work.
  4. I am curious as to why fixing permissions would make Vectorworks more stable. I am also having problems with VW quitting unexpectedly often and I have found that repairing the permissions does not help. None of my other applications crash - Photoshop, Illustrator, internet apps, etc., and I use all of them heavily. If the permissions issue is not affecting those apps, then why is it affecting Vectorworks? It quits on me in big files, small files, with no other programs running, with the zoom tool, with the line tool, trying to click a menu - there is no apparent pattern. I'm becoming obsessive about saving my work. Powerbook G4 VW 9.5.3 OS 10.2.6
  5. I'm using Mac OS 10.2.4, Quicktime 6.1.1, and Vectorworks 9.5.3.
  6. I am trying to export a rendering to an image file, but every time I export it, I get a horizontal white line 1 pixel wide about 2/3 of the way down the image. I have tried different views and different file types, all with the same result. Please see http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~ggrummon/render.jpg for example. How do I get rid of this problem? Thanks, Geoff [ 04-06-2003, 10:11 PM: Message edited by: Geoff Grummon ]
  7. I have a file that I am trying to export to Illustrator. I exported it as an EPS file and it opens without any problems in Illustrator, but for some reason, all the polygons in the file are offset from the other objects by a small amount, depending on their lineweight. If they have a thick lineweight, they are offset more than if they have a thin lineweight. The offset is not much, but just enough to be visible and unsightly when printed. Is this a Vectorworks problem or an Illustrator problem? How can I correct it without having to move all my polygons in Illustrator? I'm using VW 9.5.3, Illustrator 10, and Mac Os 10.2.4. Thanks for your help.
  8. Well, I set the printer resolution to 300 dpi and had no problems printing a 42"x60" page to a PDF file, so that must have been the problem. Thanks again.
  9. That makes sense because I had the printer resolution set to 600 dpi, and I was getting blank pages on anything over about 55". So theoretically, if I set the printer resolution (in the Page Setup dialog) to a lower resolution, I'll be able to print larger pages? I'll give it a try. Thanks.
  10. It seems that there is a limit to the size of the page that can be printed or made into a PDF with VW 9.5 on OS X. I am using the built-in PDF feature (File >> Print >> Save as PDF). I have found that if I make a PDF with a page size larger than about 55" wide the PDF comes out blank. The same thing is true if I save it as a postscript file and then run it through distiller. It is frustrating because this never was an issue with OS 9 and distiller. Other applications, such as Photoshop and Appleworks, have no problems creating PDFs with large page sizes, so it must be a VectorWorks bug.
  11. That would probably explain it. I think the larger files that I am working with have about 50,000 vertices. The reason I wanted the entire thing to be a mesh is that I want to be able to apply 1 image as a texture to the entire object. Maybe there is some other way of doing this, but if I apply the texture to a group of 3d polygons, vectorworks places the texture on each polygon individually. I guess I could break the image into pieces and then place them individually onto meshes that have less than 3000 vertices... Thanks for your help!
  12. I am trying to import some dxf files that contain 3d meshes of landforms. If the files are small, the objects come into VectorWorks as meshes (which I want). If the files are large, the objects come in as a group of 3D polygons (which are unusable). How can I get around this? Is there an import setting I'm missing? I'm using 9.5.3 on Mac OS 10.2.3. Thanks, Geoff
