  1. If I add a light source and put it in the sky, I get shadows. Not exactly a precise way of doing shadow studies! The heliodon(s) do not work, although they used to in previous versions. The heliodon layer is active, time is during daytime. Shaded render options shadows are on (and work with a light source other than a heliodon) Environmental lighting, etc. do not affect display of shadows from heliodon. No shadows appear in fast renderworks with heliodon, either.
  2. This link worked! You have to fill out pages and pages of questions and acknowledgements, and ask for a LOT of personal information - much that you can "decline to state" - before you arrive at the "here's your free pass" page.
  3. I received an e-mail from lbucci (at) vwx, "Your Free Expo Only Pass to ASLA 2022 is Here!". Apparently not. When I click on the link it takes me to the general registration page, where ASLA wants over $2,000 for two non-members to attend. The EXPO pass is a bit over $100, without the conference, $200 for two people. Not free! Is there a code, attached file, secret decoder ring or other way to actually get a free EXPO pass from VectorWorks? Thanks
  4. The Mac seems a bit easier to maintain than the PC, but there's no huge difference. Either one is less geeky than Linux, but vwx does not run on Linux anyway (I was going to set up a Linux rendering machine to take the rendering load off the PC or Mac in TwinMotion since TM does work in Linux). Macs seem to work better on the network (LAN) - we're still having problems with the Windows Machine, no idea why. Mac-Linux-NAS all work fine, and WIN-NAS works fine. Just not Win - Mac - Linux - NAS If you plan on doing rendering on your main machine (TwinMotion...) make sure you get a good graphics card. Our PC (Win 11) isn't quite there, but our 5K iMac (Intel/Nvidia) works well enough. Vwx runs fine on an M1 MacBook - but I haven't tried TwinMotion on the MacBook under Rosetta. Also, not sure but it seems like Mac Metal rendering is faster in VWX than rendering in Windows (RenderWorks, OpenGL?).
  5. More thoughts on a parametric landscape wall tool Structure type (poured in place, CMU, segmental block, gabions(s)... Parametric block sizes for CMUs etc. By height in wall, if possible for tall retaining walls. Finish if it's plastered / painted Facing and cap manufacturers / sources would be useful, too to add over the structure And frost depth for footings, if you're going full BIM. And of course if the wall is retaining it should work with DTM (something I still can't get to work as I like - but that's another story). I'm kinda tired of using stacked extruded polylines! No easy way to show structural vs. face and cap. Just classes for cap and wall - but no way to align cap pieces along curved wall so you have to break them and adjust (time wasted is money wasted)
  6. This works on some plants, not others: Copy plant styles from an older file where they're not screwed up and paste them in your current file. Basically bypass the plant insertion tool. So still a hot mess. I have hundreds of custom (mostly native) plants already defined. Individually redefining all of them is NOT a workable solution when I'm (trying to) use Vectorworks to do production drawings. Does anyone at Vectorworks actually communicate with people doing production work, to make sure their "improvements" don't create major problems? I'm really wondering after reading about how big a mess this is! Revert to an earlier SP??? Manually redefine ALL plant styles?? Really??? And NO FIX??? Your competition is gleeful on this one. Can someone please tell me where I can "INSTANCE" to "STYLE"? Thanks!
  7. When I insert a plant symbol into a new file, all the size data is corrupted. If I insert a plant that's 3' wide it comes in at 7' or whatever a previous plant was set to. The bad numbers have to be changed in three places. All spacing data from the plant style is ignored or replaced (corrupted). Attached image: Object Info - Shape (plant style - symbol - selected). Anyone find a workaround? Thanks
  8. I'm not currently experiencing this issue, but it seems that it's not solved for everyone, judging from the above comments. Regional issue?
  9. EN I think between vwx 2019/windows 10 and my vwx 2020/Mac that the menus have changed. My system of modifying worksheets seems to work great, and I can sum by categories, too (as long as I remember to modify the referenced cells to add). But it looks like vwx 19 + Win 10 is another story? Oh, and I was tempted to really write like Shakespeare, middle English and all. But that would be anachronistic!
  10. The last service pack fixed the decimals in the plant tags. This is on the Mac version of vwx 2020, but I imagine the PC version is similar enough. I do this formatting in the worksheet. Select the header row with the prices (or whatever you want to be formatted to currency, 2 decimal places) Click on Format - Number Set decimal places to 2 Set leader to $ (ou € pour vous en France ou ailleurs en Europe) You only need to do this in the header row, it will propagate down in the summarized data. For calculating the extended cost (qty x price) put the formula (= qty * cost) in the header row as well, and it will propagate down. The fast way to get a total price is to reference the summed price field in the database header. This way you control how it looks, and it's visible even if the header is hidden.
