  1. Joe, I'd use seperate files for working on the company plots and have a viewport or referenced layer of a "master" rep plot file in the background. The rep plot would be up to date in every company plot. The "visiting company plot" would only show fixtures that differ from your rep. hth, Mario
  2. Make sure that the text field (when editing the label legend) is set to a proper width (i.e. a width you would need for only one colour).
  3. Check if you have large text fields (or fields that are far away from your lighting instrument) in your label legend.
  4. Note that PDF pages are high-level objects. That means that they can be ungrouped, and you can use parts of them for your design and delete other you don't need.
  5. Oh... Since the audience area of that theatre is undergoing maintenance, our performance takes place on the rear stage area, while the audience will be sitting on the main stage. That's why they have so many flybars above the audience ;-) But indeed, there is a theatre in Munich, where they have flybars above the audience that can be moved away from and towards the stage. Quite cool... --- As I said, I have more corrupt files, but they're too big to post. What I normally do is: Import layers and their objects from my lighting plots into new files which already contain the theatre's ground and flying plot. Then I miss the Unit Numbers. This happens randomly. Sometimes I could fix the problem by scrolling up and down one page, and the labels would reappear. But now I am working on a file, trying to refresh the labels, switching classes off and on, but nothing's going to help. I am frustrated. And it's almost 3 a.m. Going to bed....
  6. Yepp, everything worked fine until I updated to SP5 and OS 10.6...
  7. Hm, I don't understand this part... What's a lineset?
  8. Michael, that's weird indeed, 'cause I convert symbols to instruments after the import, since I need to work with them. But this example could also be a work in progress, I saved it some time ago... But still, in the attached file (which I downloaded again from my posting) you can find the bug: There are two profile spots above "Reihe A" and "Reihe B" that should be Unit Number 346. The OIP shows the unit number, on screen it does not appear. Even more: The *symbol* "Pacific Zoom 45/75" should contain the opening angles as text "45" and "75". This text shows up in the Resource browser. It does not show up in my lightig plot. ? If I try to edit the 2d component of that symbol I could also select the former text field, but it has no size. Thanks, Mario
  9. Here are PDFs... All of the fixtures should have Unit Numbers in them!
  10. After I've updated to SP5 (VW 2009 with OSX.6), not all the labels (and sometimes even text inside symbols) randomly doesn't show up any more. I have problems in displaying Unit Numbers on screen as well as printing them out of a viewport on a sheet layer. See files. (Unit Numbers in Class Labels-Unit Numbers) I hope that someone at Nemetschek is interested. By the way: It's not so easy attaching files, since the usual VW file is bigger than 10MB and uploading files is limited to 5MB. Does this make any sense? ? I have more, so where should I send them to?
  11. Hi there, I would not recommend updating VW09. After updating to SP5 (and OSX 6.2) I found, that all my labels for colours disappear at a random point. Going into the Label Legend Manager shows the field at a width of 0. If I set a width, the container is no longer a line (but now a box) but still no text inside. You're also not able to edit the text. Neither entering a new one.) Also: Some of my symbols contain text. This text also disappeared. (Editing the symbol shows a text field that has a width of 0, same behaviour as above...) Frustrated.
  12. Since I've upgraded to SP5 and OS X 6.2, some text fields (in labels and inside of symbols) just disappeared. (You could select it, but the selection would show up as a line and there is no text.)
  13. This looks like if your duplicated symbol contains an instance of the original symbol. Make sure that if you edit the duplicated symbol, you edit its contents (i.e. lines, extrudes...) right away. (There must not be any other group or symbol levels which you could dig inside)
  14. Hi Andreas, for top-mounted fixtures I duplicate the original symbol definition (and add a "_floor" or "_top-mount" suffix to the name). Then you can edit the symbol in 3D-view and use 3D tools to rotate everything around the insertion point, so it appears correctly in renderings. hth, Mario
  15. Try to use a symbol that contains other symbols. So I have a cyclight symbol that contains four floodlight symbols. When starting the paperwork, I break (Cmd-K) the "container" symbol into a group and edit each of the symbols inside the group.
  16. I use a symbol that contains all the data that should appear in different places. In a new plot, I de-reference my Data-Symbol, which is basically a text block. Then I edit what I need to have there, and every instance is updated automatically. hth, Mario
  17. Jonathan, this is what I was asking about initially. My settings _ARE_ on "Allow Numeric Keypad..." but I still need to tab twice. So I'll consider this a bug and I'm wondering why no one of the VW staff has confirmed this so far. Pat, This surely is a workaround, but in my 20 years of software design and application I always found it annoying to use workarounds instead of properly designed native tools. ;-)
  18. Now, that is easy ;-) Dunno if this is best and fastest, but it appears correctly in the drawings and renderings: Let's have 3 lamps in the booms: Shins, Mids, Heads. You have to have 3 different symbols for 1. Profile Shins (0,20m) 2. Profile Mids (1,00m) 3. Profile Heads (1,80m) So, Duplicate the original "Profile" fixture-symbol into an "Profile-Shins", "Profile-Mids", and so on. (Advanced users: To have each of these new symbols being updated with the correct native symbol appearance, don't Duplicate your "Profile" symbol, but select the original "Profile" symbol and convert this into a new "Profile-Heads", ... symbol that consists of a "Profile" symbol.) For each of these, edit both 3d and 2d appearances. E.g. for the Heads: In "Edit 3d", switch to "Front View", Select All and Move (all of the symbols components) by [x = 0, y = 1,8]. Now everything appears at an altitude of 1,8m in Front View. In "Edit 2d", Select All and Move (all of the components) to where you want them to appear in 2d, e.g. [x = -1, y = -1] This will result in _ appearing 3d at the correct altitude _ appearing 2d shifted x- and y-wise, so the symbols don't overlap Note that the insertion point for any symbol (in 2d and 3d) still is [0, 0]. This means, you can insert the "Shins", "Mids", "Heads" symbols with the same (real) xy-coordinates, but the 2d and 3d display will be off this insertion point. This method will result in a lot of 1st, 2nd, 3rd... xth height symbols for SR (and the same amount for SL fixtures), but you could have these in a seperate "Booms" Folder in your Symbol Defs File and even make two symbols "Boom SR" and "Booms SL" out of the components of one boom.
  19. That's not it. I want to TAB (once) and enter data into the data bar right away. Now, it always takes two TABs.
  20. Just some thoughts about that topic after having switched from a 12.5 to a 2009: I understand that you need to either click or tab to get the floating bar to appear, even if "Use floating data bar" is checked. (Although I was expecting the data bar to be ALWAYS on my screen if this option was checked...) So: No matter which "Use floating data bar" option you've checked, you always need to tab to see the floating data bar. Although the "Allow numeric keypad entry for instant data bar activation" is checked, you will have to tab A SECOND TIME to get into the first data bar field. If you don't tab a second time, entering numbers will result in changing views or switching to another tool. ? Is this a bug or do I misunderstand anything? (NB: I'm using VW on a laptop with an external keyboard that also has a numeric keypad.) I found out that you always need to press TAB twice before entering the start point. Quite annoyed I ended up in using the fixed data bar again. It only needs ONE TAB to enter data. But what's the use of the floating data bar then?
  21. Maybe I'm not too patient, but I think that one or two minutes is far too long for a wait there. And I am running the Disk Utility right now. Mario
  22. Katie, VW is still on my screen, but nothing seems to happen. And, as I said, it's not possible to switch to another app. btw: This really seems to be a severe bug. Please have a look at this thread
  23. Katie, Simply: None! It's not even possible to Force Quit anything, nor go to another app, nor do anything else. My Mac is dead!!!
  24. Hi, aborting rendering in OpenGL-mode crashes my whole system. In VW9 you could abort this operation by pressing cmd-period, and VW returned to wireframe. Now, VW 12.0.1 crashes everything. Is this a known issue? G4 15" PB 1,7 Ghz (PowerPC) OS 10.3.9, Quicktime 7.1.0 VW 12.0.1 Thx, Mario
  25. Sorry for not coming back to this thread for so long. Updating the OIP from the Lighting Device Dialog seems now fixed. However, you can't double-click a multiple selection anymore to open this dialog. (Have to use the "Edit"-Button in the OIP instead, but this is just an annoyance...) VW 12.0.1 and OS 10.3.9 here. @David: When inserting instrument I don't want to take care about what class I've set active. VW should use THE class that I'd assigned in the Edit Symbol/Insertion Options.
