  1. Hello, all - I have a weird problem which didn't manifest itself in previous versions: when I fill patterns (doesn't matter what colour, what pattern, or what density) and then I print to PDF on my desktop Mac, the file produced has a very pronounced square pattern overplayed onto the pattern areas. It's so bad that in most cases, the pattern itself cannot be discerned because of this cross-hatch of squares. Mac OSX 10.10.2 Yosemite Vectorworks 2014 SP5 32GB RAM, 2GB VRAM Problem manifests itself both under OS X 10.10 Yosemite as well as under OS X 10.8.5 and it has the exact same issue whether it's produced on an iMac 27" or on a MacBook Pro. It also doesn't matter whether the file only has 2 shapes with a pattern, or whether the file is a 65MB monster with 32 layers and 114 classes. Anyone know what the issue is caused by? I tried both options of "print patterns at screen resolution" and neither makes any difference.
  2. Other than annoy the hell out of some people, what's the use of this feature? I just ran into this problem for the first time today: all previous files and work seemed to never need this feature, but today I received an ACAD file from a client and when I imported it, suddenly layers disappeared from the stack and became invisible even though they were not listed as such. Thank goodness for this post!!
  3. Oh, sweet Jesus!! Thanks so much for this - I looked through every menu and through [most of] the manual with no luck until now. Thanks a million, you solved 3 months of headaches and a month of aggravation!!
  4. I've been using Vectorworks since it was MiniCad 3.0 and all along (until the last version I used, which was 2009) I had been able to select multiple similar objects and edit them - or select multiple various types of objects and scale them simultaneously. As of 3 months ago, I was switched to VW2014 and it's driving me totally insane that I can no longer make these multiple edits. I'll include some examples: #1: In the drawing, I have 27 parallel grid lines that need to be extended "manually" some distance, to now reach to the relocated grid line bubbles. Before, I would select all the lines, and drag by any random endpoint of any of these lines - holding SHIFT pressed - to extend the lines to where needed. But under VW2014, the moment more than 1 item is selected, the selection endpoints and midpoints disappear and therefore cannot be edited together. #2: I have a number of squares and circles, and some random lines drawn, and I want to select-all and scale them up (or down) symmetrically by a certain stretch. Same as before: if I select more than 1 element at a time, stretching or scaling by endpoints is impossible. #3: I have a number of drawn elements and some text, and I want them all rotated to a random other point on the drawing. Impossible to do unless I group the entire thing first - and even then, sometimes it won't let me do it. .. is there a setting somewhere, that I need to set? .. am I doing something wrong, and just don't get it..? Is anyone else experiencing these issues?
  5. Hi. I'm faced with the horrible task of converting about 150 files from VectorWorks 8 to VectorWorks 10. Th problem doesn't lie in the conversion, because that seems to work just fine. However, these files have/had a number of fields attached to some of the elements on the drawing, and now I cannot seem to be able to change their Data contents. Some examples: The titleblock is supposed to be generic, and it is inserted as a symbol into eack drawing. I have converted the original symbol to read under VW10, and saved it in the VW10 file that is referenced. However, the "Data" links such as the actual title of the drawing, and a large number of other fields - they've all lost their content links and I cannot edit any of them. What do i do? How can I post some of these files for someone to look at and then offer suggestions? Another example: we have alibrary of items that are 2D and 3D (took us a few years to get them all set up and catalogued). Each item would have anumber, a name, a location for specifying finishes, graphic content labels, etc... When the library got converted to VW10, all these fields have lost their content and cannot be edited. What do I do, or what didn't I do....? I don't want to have to redo the entire libabry of elements, a dI'd rather not work this job in VW8 again.... Last note: each one of these fields used to tie into a large worksheet that would have the summary of the elements used for each assembly. This worksheet would update itself based on the fields enetered for the individual elemnts used - which, as I said, is gone. How would I address the worksheet update issue, assuming that the other questions are answered and actually solved? Many many thanks! nick.
  6. It's definetely version 9.5.3, and the file has two layers visible: the titleblock (always the same size and scale and content and position) and the content of the drawing itself (similar content but slightly different and aligned differently on the page). The issue still stands: depending on which layer I have active at the time of the export, I will get different exported images and sizes, and that includes exporting while on the Titleblock layer. Please help, I'm really annoyed with this problem! nick.
  7. Is there a way to set the "Print Area" for an export command - say, to JPEG for example? I am desperately trying to figure out what governs the dimensions that appear in the window for "Export as Image" because they don't make any sense to me. I have 11 different files, all using the exact same titleblock at the exact same scale, with practically the same contents - yet each one of the 11 files gives me COMPLETELY DIFFERENT image size dimensions.... What gives? I'm at my wits' end... please help! nick.
  8. Thanks for the reply. As stated above, I AM running 9.5.3 and QT6. If you've never seen 9.5.3 generate this problem, I am honoured to be the first to point it out! I cannot go back to QT5 for a variety of reasons, so please offer an alternate solution base. Please email me direct at <nborcescu@lord.ca> to expedite matters. I have reached a point where I really NEED to get these images out, and I hate to have to jump through hoops... nick.
  9. You could easily create your own by either a simple extrude with a ball on top, or by getting funky and extruding between two profiles. The flag, usually, is in a ratio of 2:1, so you could also make that by extruding a simple box or getting funky again and extruding a complex path! nick.
  10. I'm running VW 9.5.3 on a G3 with OS X 10.112 and Quicktime 6 Every time I try of export as an image (regardless of the format: BMP, TIF, JPG, PSD), the "default" setting gives me a really crappy quality image - and as soon as I increase the resolution or the size (or both), I get an image that is shifted incrementally towards the bottom-right of the screen. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? In our firm, we find that we have to send a lot of "screen captures" or JPGs of the files we're working on. My current solution is to print to PDF, convert the PDF through Photoshop (and thus lose all my fills and colours, and 3/4 of the resolution) and save as JPG. Someone please help me! nick.
