  1. Thanks again! That did the trick for simplifying the terrain geometry. Now I have one more challenge: the site modifier is set to "pad with retaining edge", but the result doesn't appear to have a retaining edge, instead it slopes softly (see image). I updated the terrain model and checking settings on the terrain and modifier, but can't figure out how to sharpen that retaining edge. Any suggestions? VWX 2021 SP5 Architect
  2. Thank you @Tom W.! I deleted the duplicate polys. Is there a way to simplify the poly lines that were used to generate the terrain model with an existing terrain, or do I need to start over from the original geometry?
  3. Hello! I'm trying to make a pad with retaining edge, but when I apply it to the terrain model, the topography gets weirdly jagged all over the model, even in areas nowhere near the pad. Photos below show the terrain before the pad is applied, then the messed-up terrain afterwards. A file that contains only the terrain and pad is also attached. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks. Ducros_terrain only.vwx
  4. Thanks, @Boh! That's very helpful. Puzzling that this is the solution, but helpful all the same😉
  5. To fix the window IDs, I check the box for "Display 2D fills" in the viewport's OIP. Unfortunately I haven't found a solution to fix the triangulated interruptions in the textures. A Vectorworks employee contacted me and this seems to be a glitch. The workaround is to draw in the missing patches in annotation with a polyline with a hatch fill and carefully align it to the rest of the wall's texture. Needless to say, it's a huge pain and does not update automatically if anything changes in the model, but it's all I've found for now.
  6. Aha! I found the rogue element. It was a random piece of roof framing that ended up way off to the left. I've deleted it and now the problem is solved. No idea how it ended up there in the first place, but at least everything works now! Thanks.
  7. @zoomer, It is a perspective view, and the clip cube is not activated (at least not intentionally!). I have no idea what those thin vertical lines are - they appear in all of my perspective views, with & without the camera being activated. @michaelk Is the origin the blue circle in the top/plan view (image attached)? If so, then the building is quite close. That being said, when I zoom to the extents of the drawing, it zooms way out like there's a mysterious an unseen something-or-other far to the left side. I can't seem to select it to figure out what it is or how to move it though... I checked and the floor and roof plans are both at the same scale. Thank you both for your help!
  8. Hi @zoomer, It occurs in a saved view, camera view and viewport. I tried restarting vectorworks and rebooting my computer but the problem persists.
  9. Hello, When I turn on the roof design layer in my model, the view clips bizarrely in an uncontrollable way, as shown in the images below The model is near the origin and still works fine in another view. The file is attached. Do you have any suggestions for how to fix this? Thanks! 2021-02-16 Mont Ham.vwx
  10. Hi @Wes Gardner, Here is the file. The sheet layer with the elevations where this glitch occurs is on screen when you open the file. Thanks for your help! 210208_J&E_glitch.vwx
  11. No responses yet... Could someone please help me out here? I have the same issue in multiple files, and I'm stumped as to why it is occurring. I just installed the latest service pack, but the problem persists (VWX 2021 SP 2.1) Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.
  12. Hello, I'm having trouble with a few display issues in my hidden line elevations. These seem to only show up in hidden line render mode, not in OpenGL (I've attached a PDF of both to illustrate the issues). Issue #1 : The surface hatch of the siding is missing on part of the elevation (PDF attached). The wall itself is continuous, but the texture is getting interrupted for some reason (shown in pink in attached PDF) Issue #2: window IDs - the window ID text is missing from the East and some South windows. The ID hexagon is there, but the text is missing (shown in green in attached PDF). I checked and the ID text class is turned on. The second window ID issue is that some window IDs from the opposite side of the building "ghosts" through the building (shown in cyan in attached PDF). Any idea what might be causing these issues in hidden line render mode? Thanks! Elevation window ID issue_OpenGL.pdf Elevation window ID issue.pdf
  13. Hi! I'm working on a winding stair with the Stair Tool, and I was wondering what the colour code on the stairs in plan in the Stair Tool signifies. When I click on the stairs in this plan, they change colour (yellowish green, grey, tan or white) and the number of angled/winder treads changes, but I can't understand the correlation between the colour and geometric change. More importantly, I can't figure out how to model the stair that I want: the screenshot below shows what I want (magenta line drawing) vs. what I've managed to build with the stair tool. Any suggestions? Thanks! (VWX Architect 2021)
  14. Thank you Nikolay! Switching to VWX 2021 and fixing the date stamp z value seems to have fixed the issue. You've saved me a lot of future frustration!
  15. Thank you all for your help. Here is a file where the title block issue is present, for your diagnosis. I use two different custom title blocks, so there are two sheet layers to demonstrate them. The one on sheet SD-1 has the wandering issue at the moment (at least it does when I open the file - it's so sporadic that it could be different for you). The title block in A-400 appears to be behaving itself for now, but I've had issues with the same TB at other times. 200929_Title block issue v2.vwx
  16. Hello, I'm using Vectorworks Architect 2020 SP5, and I have chronic issues with my title blocks. These occur regularly in multiple files, and I've tried rebuilding the title blocks (convert to group, then create new symbol) but to no avail. Here are the issues: Issue #1) At random, the title block wanders waaaaaay off from the page. The perimeter around the page remains and is selectable, but the actual title block geometry and text have moved far off to the right and (oddly enough) the three data stamps for plot date & file name tend to wander waaaay off to the left. To fix this, I go to edit title block layout for the TB style, and often it appear fine in edit mode, and just closing edit without changing anything will make it reappear correctly. Other times, when I edit the title block layout, it has moved off the page and I move it back again, where it stays... for a while before wandering off again. Issue #2) When it isn't wandering off, the title block sometimes just becomes invisible. Still selectable, was fine a minute ago and I haven't touched it since, but the text and lines have suddenly vanished. The workaround fix here is to select the title block and click "Make all attributes by class" in the Attributes window. This causes the title block to reappear, then I "undo" and it is still visible but with the attributes as they should be (i.e. prior to "Make all attributes by class" and prior to being invisible). What gives? This is driving me bananas and it a frustrating waste of time. The strangest thing is that these issues occur when I'm not working on the title blocks at all. I go back to sheet view from some other work in the file, and the title block has gone for a hike or is dabbling with invisibility (this is not a class visibility issue - I checked that!). Any help would be much appreciated! Attached images: 1) the wandering title block 2) The invisible-but-selectable title block 3) I've selected the tb and clicked "Make all attributes by class" 4) After command-Z undo of "Make all attributes by class" - this is what is was supposed to look like all along, better it went invisible.
  17. Hi, I just installed VW2020 (Architect, Fundamentals, Renderworks), but when I opened one of the files I was working on in VW2019 the text scales were wonky: instead of displaying at the scale of the design layer they're in, as they normally do, the text dimension line "ticks" and arrow heads were giant. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks!
  18. I had my elevations set up on a sheet layer in hidden line view and everything looked fine, then I went and did a bunch of miscellaneous modelling and when I happened to return to the elevations sheet, my ground floor walls have an extra heavy lineweight in hidden line view, and the junction with the 2nd floor walls which ought to be invisible is a big black line. I'm not sure what triggered this graphic change because I was doing a bunch of different things, including mucking around with textures, but I'm puzzled because the walls themselves haven't changed geometry and I can't get the lineweight back to normal. The problem affects all of the walls on my ground floor house layer. Images below. Any suggestions? As a side note, I've also lost my window ID labels. I double-checked and the class is turned on. The symbol outline shows up, but the text is missing. Has anyone encountered this before? How can I fix it?
  19. Thanks, Benson! I turns out that it was #5 - I didn't realize that the components would need a solid fill even if a texture was being applied to them.
  20. Hello, I'm learning to use render works textures and have a strange glitch where my slab is bright red, despite the applied texture being white paint (bottom) & hardwood (top). I've tried: applying the white paint directly by dragging and dropping from the resource browser applying the white paint to the slab style applying the white paint to the object, both overall and by component deleting and re-drawing the slab out of desperation But the strange red persists. Any suggestions? Screenshot of the very red ceiling attached.
  21. Hi, I just upgraded to Vectorworks Architecture 2019, and for some reason when I add a scale bar the numbers don't show up. I tried this in an existing file, mucked around with class & layer visibilities to no avail. I also created a blank file and added a scale bar, and had the same problem there. Is this a 2019 bug? Has anyone else encountered this issue?
  22. So THAT's what those cryptic little arrow/toggle buttons are for! Thanks a bunch, Gadzooks - that's exactly what I was looking for. And thanks for the tip about window numbering and elevations.
  23. Thanks, Gadzooks. I've been using the window ID, but when I create a window style (i.e. for Type A windows that all have the same dimensions), the ID options become greyed out, so all Type A windows have the exact same ID, as opposed to W-01 Type A, W-02 Type A, etc. Ideally, I would like each window label to be the window's unique ID number, and the window schedule can list which type applies to that window. I tried the ID label tool that you mentioned, to see if that could override the style's ID tag, but it doesn't let me select windows that have a set style. One way to deal with all of this would be to make all of my windows "unstyled", but I like having window styles for the extra control in applying changes to a bunch of windows at once, and as an extra check to make sure that they all truly match. VWX community: how do you all deal with window tags? Unstyled windows with unique ID numbers? Styled windows with ID tags by type? Or is there a unicorn solution that makes it possible to have styled windows with unique IDs?
  24. Hi, I'd like to assign an individual mark (unique id) to each window, as well as a type for all windows that share the same dimensions and elevation. What is the best way to set this up? I've made some window styles, which takes care of the type, but can't figure out how to give a unique mark to each window (to avoid having to say things like "the W01 window, third from the left on the East facade"). Thanks!
