  1. Hi, I believe this is being caused by your hanging position not being recognized as a 'Lighting Position' After using the 'Lighting Pipe' tool you need to then covert that pipe or position in to a 'Lighting Position' To do this: Spotlight/Object Conversion/Convert to Light Position. This should allow for the fixture to adhere to the pipe and get the z height information. You can add the z height before or after the conversion process, through the Object Info. Palette/Shape tab.
  2. hi, vw 2012, vista 64 bit, toshiba laptop. I right clicked on a blank part of the screen, and i get no option to access palettes. can someone clarify for me? i too have lost those palettes. thanks, mw
  3. catch22, are your hanging positions 2d or 3d objects? they need to be 3d objects. the position needs to have a z height that the light attaches to. try using the prebuilt lighting positions in the spotlight object library and see if this works. michael williams
  4. I plan to get more ram. I did rename the position and this seemed to fix the problem for the time being. thanks, michael w
  5. I'm working on a light plot with several lighting positions. Some imported from VW lighting positions (favorites file) and some I've created myself. I have a position named Bridge DS. Now whenever I try to place a new position by selecting a position in the resource browser (making it the active symbol) and then clicking on the place lighting position tool...I get the revolving clock followed by the spinning beach ball...and then my Bridge DS position is selected including all of its instruments. Obviously a bug of some sort. Anyone else come across this? (Older system I know): Dual 450 PowerPC G4 Mac OS X 10.4.11 512 MB SDRAM VW 2008 Student edition (SP2) I've tried updating to SP3 but it won't take. thanks, Michael Williams
  6. Kenneth, I tried a couple of different things and I couldn't replicate your problem. I created a simple grid of lighting pipes with 2 running n/s and 2 running e/w with intersecting pipes. I created the pipes by drawing a line and then converting it to a lighting position. This of course does not allow for a z height. I placed fixtures at the intersections. There was no rhyme or reason as to which pipe it chose to attach itself to. I was however able to change the position name for each instrument to the other pipe in the intersection. I then did the same exercise with true 3d pipes inserted from the lighting positions pio's. They behaved the same way. I was able to change the position name of the attached instruments to the other intersected pipe. I'm at a loss why it isn't working for you. If you want to email me an example I would be glad to look at it for you. You can reach me at william7@illinois.edu glad to help if I can. michael williams
  7. Kenneth, Try setting a different 'layer' name for certain pipes. For example...you have grid pipes running north to south, and grid pipes running east to west. Place the N/S pipes on one layer and E/W pipes on another layer. Then in layer views grey either of these layers and the instruments should only 'attach' to the layer that is visible. This might also work for placing floor mounts on their own separate layer. You could also do this with classes if you wanted to keep all lighting positions on a single layer. Let me know if this is what you are after or if this works. michael w
  8. I echo what Kevin is instructing you to do. Also I have noticed that I have had to "lower" the "z" level, or hanging height of the gobo projector about 1' to 1'6" below the lighting fixtures hanging height in order for the projector to actually project.
  9. bruce, I miss informed you about the screen redraw. The pan tool is located underneath the page move tool. Next to the select arrow. I just created 3 new symbols..L,CTR, R cyc units. Then coverted to lighting symbols, then added label legends to each instance, then selected the 3 symbols and converted to multi circuit instrument. I selected the instrument to move it, and just as you have stated, the instruments tear apart. But I double click the hand tool (Pan) and all is corrected. I am using my desktop computer at work...G4, Mac OS 9.2, 512 megs ram, Spotlight 9.5.2
  10. you name it, I basically have it. I am a teacher at the University of Illinois. Our CAD Lab has both Windows and Macs. Windows XP and Mac OS9 for now. We are currently running VW 10.? the newest. At home I have a G$ with OS 10 and VW 9.? The multi circuit is certainly an interesting feature to master. One other thought that I had. Are you using you own (homemade) symbols or are you using the parts that come with Spotlight?
  11. Have you tried this? Refreshing the screen? By double clicking the pan tool (little hand, underneath the select tool) it will force a redraw (refresh) of the screen. If you have correctly created a multicircuit fixture, it's mates will redraw correctly. I'm not sure if this is what is happening to you, but it always happens to me. Good luck.
  12. Have you moved all of the other open pallets on your screen? Sometime one pallett will be placed over another and obscure it from view. This has happened to me many a time.
  13. I am using version SL 9.5.2. This happens in both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS 10 and on Windows machines. (our cad lab). yes, I do have some saved sheets. We I save a file, I typically fill window with drawing and then save. This is not a saved sheet view in my file.
  14. I typically save a file with the "plot" layer as the active layer. When I open that file again, the file will open with a different layer than the layer which was saved as being active. It tends to open with the next higher layer in the list of layers each time. Anyone else observe this?
  15. Has anyone else noticed that when you purge unused items in a Spotlight file, it will remove all data label definitions you have in the label folder? It has happened on my computer (Mac OS 10) and on a friend's cumputer which is a PC.
  16. after i place an ETC source 4 50^ into a lighting plot, and after I have Spotlight number the instruments, I can't manualy adjust the lable positions. I can select each labels repositioning point, move that point, but the label itself does not readjust, and the repositioning point returns to its' original position. I can readjust the labels if I don't run the numbering routine, but as soon as i run the routine, I can't. This does not occur with either the 36^ or 26^ Source 4 units. Any ideas? thanks
