  1. VW 10 Setup Problem: 1. When I go to Document Setup I get an "Alert: Required date file "Common/Data/DwgSizes.txt" was not found." Then the document setup box comes up. Then I can use the Document Setup box. 2. The I go to Model Setup and I get another alert-"Alert: There was a problem with the LayerNameStds. Worksheet. This procedure cannot run without it". Nothing will happen then. 3. Then I go to to Create Standard Sheets and nothing will happen until I use Model Setup-which of course, I can't. 4. Then I go to Standard Naming-"Alert: The worksheet "Class Name Stds" is missing." I hit the ok button and I get another alert: There was a problem importing the ClassNameStds worksheet. This procedure cannot be run without it." Then I get the first alert and then the second alert again and then the first alert and I finally can get out of it. This is another circular problem like VW9. I've talked with Katie at Nemetschek and she had me reinstall VW 10-I still get the problems after the install. She is researching this with the engineers there-no solutions as yet. I've never used the setup before in any previous versions and thought I'd try it. Anybody have any ideas. Nemetschek is working on this, but I need to get some work done this weekend and I would like to use the setup features. 3. This is slightly off topic, but I need to find a Mac version of the 254/255 Standard Forms for Fed work. Does anyone know where one can find the forms in a manipulative form for the Mac? Sam Combs, AIA, NCARB, Architect
  4. Since updating to 9.5.2 I no longer have the Print Sheets option. I get a script error as follows: "Error:_30_32-Index outside array limits." Anyone know what this means and how to fix it? Thanks!
  5. I have my drawing on the right and the palettes on the left. The left screen is saved and the drawing window is not. At least I only have to reshape one window. I mentioned this problem in VW8 to the Bug-Submit and repeatedly thereafter, but it has not been fixed yet. Hopefully in the future. Sam Combs, AIA, NCARB, ETC, Architect
  6. Katie, Thanks for the reply. I have a 512k cable modem and do not have problems downloading other updates to other programs I use. I am also getting an error when trying to download the PowerPack. Any suggestions?
  7. Does anyone know if one can download the VW Viewer for Windows to a Mac? I've tried several times and I keep getting an error-it won't download. The Mac VW Viewer will download fine.
  8. It ain't there! I looked for it, too. We are supposed to use the cased window opening instead now. I miss the old wall opening. Maybe if we all whine enough, they'l bring it back in 9.5!
  9. To NNA: As an Architect, a two & 1/2 year rookie with VectorWorks (for that matter-any CAD program!), & now it seems a Beta tester (not by choice!) for VW, I have been very discouraged with VW 9, VA 9 & RW 9 & now the 9.0.1 upgrade to all three. It seems as if very few of the problems that I experienced in 9 were actually fixed in 9.0.1. I must admit that I was looking forward to 9 & the patch in 9.0.1. I am the only one in my Alaska VectorWorks User Group that has taken the plunge into the 9 series-the others have tried it & become too disillusioned. They are waiting for a true upgrade & patch,i.e., 9.1 -9.5-I should have waited, but it is too late. I have a list below of some of the bugs I have seen & some of my wish list-I will send this to all the appropriate sections on the site. I hope that this assists NNA in getting to the root of these problems. If anyone has known fixes or work arounds, let me know. Bugs: 1. Main window does not hold shape & size after closing VW. Note that the palettes on my dual monitor system do retain their size and location 2. Dimensions cause VW to freeze when using in the ?Unshaded Polygon? rendering mode. When trying to dimension an elevation for example, I pull the dimension, release & VW freezes. All I can then do is move the cross hairs around-that?s all. I have to force quit & lose work. Needless to say, I don?t use this rendering mode anymore. 3. Stretching &/or reducing walls has very strange results-lines across screen up & down. I?ve been told this is a known bug. It creates some very strange results! 4. RenderWorks still has the same note when trying to render-?One or more operations aborted...etc., etc.? This is very problematic-all I am able to render is in hidden line without getting errors or freezes. 5. Can?t nudge object selected-have to deselect & then can nudge the object. New nudge requirements require two hands to operate instead of one as in VW8. 6. Printing on an Epson 1520 printer @ 300dpi w/Unshaded Polygon takes a very long time, i.e., 1/2 hour. 7. Paste-In-Place with Command-Shift-V does not work. Have to use Edit Menu for Paste-In-Place. 8. When using plug-in wood object-can?t set size in pop up menu. Reverts to other size. 9. When pulling lines or walls & hitting the shift key, it says ?angle? instead of vertical or horizontal when holding shift key. 10. When inserting plug-in object it takes about 5 seconds to appear. Same with duplicating objects. 11. Saving a file can take over a minute or longer or 5 seconds-it is very inconsistent. Changing to a simpler saved sheet, i.e., on with less detail seems to speed up the process. Very unusual, since it is not just saving the saved sheet, but the entire file. 12. Changing from sheet to sheet takes much too long-5 seconds! 13. Changing from layer to layer within a file takes much too long-5 seconds, as well. 14. When linking to a model sheet, sometimes objects remain even after changes or deletions to linked sheets. What I have to do is remove layer link layer & redo layer link. That will usually get rid of the ghost object. 15. Grouping objects-takes too long-clock is spinning. 16. Undos taking much too long-clock is spinning. 17. New trim tool works sometimes & sometimes it does not. We need the old trim tool back as well. I like the new tool-when it works. 18. There are more bugs I?m sure. I will add them at a future date as the become apparent. Wish List: 1. Truss layout tool. If my local building suppliers have it-why can?t VW incorporate it? 2. Duplicating doors or windows in walls-it is a pain because it duplicates the entire wall. Need to be able to duplicate doors or windows without duplicating entire wall. I realize they become a grouped object, i.e., the wall & doors & windows, it still would be nice to be able to do this. 3. When editing layers-it would be nice to be able to have the window scroll down automatically when you move a layer up or down. 4. Print sheets is a good new feature, but it could use improvement, i.e., not having to hit ?Print? for each sheet. Instead, it should automatically print all the sheets that were selected. 5. Need a modifiable round window and/or vent plug-in object. 6. And of course, all the items as noted above. 7. There are more issues I?m sure, I will add them later. I will keep using 9.0.1 and hope that these Bugs and Wishes will be addressed as soon as possible. 13. Ok, I would like to thank Mike & Deirdre Pacylowski and the rest of the Nemetschek crew for getting my office VectorWorks Architect 9 in a timely manner, i.e. overnight after I found that I didn't get it as ordered. As far as my comments concerning the German connection, i.e., "Ve vill do vat ve like it & you vill like it", the Diehl Graphsoft (now Nemetschek) crew has always been very good to work with and considerate. This was all in good fun and I hope was taken as such. I know that the Nemetschek crew was very concerned about my email to the Forum and were actually passing it around the office. This just shows how concerned they really are with our satisfaction with the product. Just remember that we should all thank the CAD Gods that we don't have AutoCad or such ilk! I know that my wallet would be a lot lighter, the assistance would not be as personable and the technical support would be no where as personal and attentive. Ok, enough of this, I don't want them to get too big of egos-after all we do need to keep them in line! Thanks again!!

  16. After over two years of waiting for the new VectorWorks 9 and being told last Monday when I ordered it that it would be ready on Wednesday to ship and that I would receive it this past Friday, I found out that it ain't so! When I called to check on its arrival on Friday, I was told that it was on back order and that it would not ship for at least a week. I called on the first day it was available and it's sold out already? I gather that it is not really sold out-just not ready to go! If it is not ready to go, why did Nemetschek say that it would be delivered on Friday. I was really looking forward to receiving it and hopefully having a program that is a lot less buggy than VW8.5.2 and with a lot more features. I believe that Nemetschek should honor their commitment and at least send VW9 & RW9 for now and then VWArchitect9(?) when it is ready to ship and do so at the same upgrade/package price. Let us all let Nemetschek know this is what they should do. Otherwise, who knows how long we will have to wait! 19. Get a Mac! Actually, I have a 1520, a G3/233 and have no problems. I have no problems printing at 360 dpi, 720 dpi or whatever. Have you called Epson? Good Luck! ------------------
  20. Can anyone tell me what the deal is with VectorWorks text? When I try to modify text and go into the text box, I cannot see part of the text-it is hidden below the box. No matter what I do to try and access the text, I cannot see it. Sometimes I copy and paste the text to another layer and can access some of the text there. This does not seem correct. Any solutions? Thanks!
  21. Three words. Don't do it! I upgraded to OS 9 when it first came out, got the updates and had nothing but problems. I went pack to OS 8.5 and haven't had the problems I had with 9. It is reputedly the worst OS that Apple has ever released. I would tend to agree. Not only did it cause problems with VelctorWorks, it also caused prblems with other programs. I coudn't spool print to my HP455CA along with numerous other problems. My suggestion, three more words-Forget about it!
  22. Three words. Don't do it! I upgraded to OS 9 when it first came out, got the updates and had nothing but problems. I went pack to OS 8.5 and haven't had the problems I had with 9. 23. I posted this question on the VectorWorks Architect Forum, but no one has responded so I thought I'd try this Forum. Has anyone else had a problem with the upgrade to VectorWorks Architect 1.0.1? After I installed it everything has slowed down and I can't insert doors in walls. The clock just seems to spin and spin and finally something happens-but not what I want. In the AEC Workspace I don't have this problem. I have also installed the new 8.5.2 VectorWorks. I have 150 megs allocated in Vectorworks. What's the deal?
