  1. I'm not sure I got you, but I'll try: 1. Open the image in Photoshop 2. Select the desired area to manipulate with the magic wand tool (use Tolerance value to reach the correct selection, and "select Similar" command to select all the others areas in the pic with the same color) 3. My advice, in this stage - from "select" choose "save selection" (you'll use it...) 4. Image > Adjust > hue/saturation. In the dialog box move the sliders to get the desired effect. If you'll check the preview box you'll get real-time feed back 5. Instead of 4 you can go to Image > Adjust > color balance, or levels.
  2. Since RW version 1 was introduced shortage of readymade textures was one of the most disturbing weaknesses of the product, at least to me. I also read about the new LWA technology and it seems to me as the perfect solution - a wide variety of textures, coming from users of many rendering and modeling platforms, compatible with the limited community of RW users. After Improving the Rendering speed, it seems to me as the most useful and productive upgrade to RW.
  3. After reading the new above I clicked my way to LightWorks site and found that their product line contain much more than Alltivec. Radiosity Rendering, sketch rendering and some new way of sharing resources like textures and materials call LWA. Are we going to see those functions in RenderWorks?
  4. Thanks for the URL Terence, It is the best viewer I've seen yet. It shows fonts in any size, and that's cool.
  5. Hello Katie Sorry, but I'm taking Carl side ? I don't think that this is the problem. Since some of my speculations were lack of memory, I tried doing nothing when VW is printing, thinking that using the computer for other tasks will put too much pressure on the system. For the last weeks I tried to quit other programs before printing, and still I'm having the "Squished fonts" problems, sometimes By the way, you were mentioning "?The resulted symptoms are line weights being scrunched, dashed lines printing as solid lines and..." ? Never saw that in my prints. Even if the fonts were squished, the rest of the graphic info printed correctly. yovav
  6. Hello Terence I'm having the same problem. I'm using 10.1 on XP pro and HOME systems. We had a long discussion in this subject, in the printing section. You can check the link below: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=000109 I sent some relevant 10.1 files to Katie, few days ago, and she is checking them to find if the problem is caused by VW or the HP driver. Hope, for all of us, she'll find some solution to this annoying problem And finally a tip: Until the problem will be fixed I'm checking each .plt file, on screen, to see if the "condensed text" effect happened in that print. If it does, I'm reprinting it (you don't have to change any setting, because it doesn't have any effect), and checking it again, until I'm getting a fine result. There are a lot of ".plt viewers" on the net, but most of them fail to show a good screen picture of the print file. The best solution I found yet is "CAD Viewer" from GuthCAD. You can download a demo from: http://www.guthcad.com/ssl/buyvw.htm All of the viewers I've checked fail to show the details we are looking for - the text. Only this one will show text, but only if you use font size bigger then 20. Since I'm using usually smaller fonts, I'm inserting a check text block, bigger than 20 points in each doc I'm printing these days. I know it sounds bad, but this my best solution, until NNA guys will find a solution.
  7. Yes, I'm using English versions of XP Home and XP pro. The "regional and languages options" control panel is set to: "Regional options" tab > standards and formats > Hebrew. "Languages" tab > details > text services and input languages > English US "Advanced" tab > languages for non Unicode programs > Hebrew In the past I tried changing almost every parameter in this control panel, but it didn't solved the problem.
  8. Hello Katie Thanks for your replay, sorry for my delay. Here are some answers for your questions: Is the bunching happening in only worksheets or text in the drawing and worksheets? If I understand your Q correctly the problems is not connected to worksheets. I got basic documents with no worksheets, just 2 or 3 layers, and I got the problems with them also. Does this happen in all files? No. Some files plot OK, some don't. Some times a document prints OK, and after a few days, and few changes made in it, it gives me corrupted plots. All Of those documents are using the same fonts. Does this happen in new, blank files or only in files converted from an earlier version to the current version? It happened in both situations ? blank new documents, and old one coming from 9.x, and changed by 10.x Which arial font are you using? I'm usually using simple "Arial", but since the problems started I?m tried to use only "Arial Unicode MS", since this is a regular font coming with the Operating system. I'm using those fonts mostly with Hebrew Text and also some local fonts called David, Gutman Haim and others, but I don?t believe the names of those local fonts will give you some hints? Are you only using arial fonts in your files, or do you have multiple fonts in each file? I'm using multiple fonts. During the tests I've done I tried using Only "Arial Unicode MS", but it didn't solve the problem. Can you print text with a different font and have it print out correctly? As mentioned above ? no, changing the font doesn't solve the problem. What is the make and model of the printer you are printing to? (I never saw the exact model you are printing to other than trying different drivers.) I'm printing to HP 1055CM plotter located outside of my office, in a print shop, using print to file option. Are other computers in the office having the same issues with this printer? Yes. We are using 2 computers and both of them are having the same random symptoms. And last questions, from me to you this time: since I'm printing mostly Hebrew Text should I set something especially in the system? Maybe something in the "regional and language options" control panel? Since I'm writing from home, I'll send you a problematic file when I get to my office. Thanks Katie, hope you'll think of something because I'm running out of ideas?
  9. Hello Katie I don't think I'm dealing with corrupted fonts. I think so because printing from a 3 layers document worked fine for 2 of them, and corrupted the 3rd. The same fonts where used all over the document. Just today I've sent the same plot to the service bureau 5 times. All of those plots came back with the condensed text. The mentioned VW 10 Document contains 3 sheets, describing 3 floors of a simple house. The file is smaller than 5 MB, and got just 2d stuff inside. As mentioned, 2 layers were printed fine in the first shot. The 3rd gave me the troubles. After the 2nd try to print it I've deleted all the text from the problematic layer, copy the text from one of the printable layers (just titles to the page), edit them, and resend it to the service bureau. Bad results again. The next time I've opened a new blank document and copy/paste the problematic layer into it. Bad results again. At this stage I tried another HP Driver (went from 1055CM to 1050c). Bad results again. Since the day was about to finish I left my pride, exported it to VW 8.5, printed it from there and everything was OK (if you can call "OK" spending almost 3 hours on installing drivers, sending 5 e-mails, talking over the phone with bureau, using 3 years old software, and all of that just to print a simple A3 page). I'm using 10.0.1, On XP, got 256MB of RAM, printing with up-to-date HP 10xx drivers, and going insane. By the way, when I print the file to my Epson Stylus Color 1520 everything is working fine. And last but no least: what is the definition for "corrupted font"? How can I check which font is corrupted? If those fonts are printed fine in others software, or in others VW documents, can they be corrupted? Is it possible that Microsoft's built in "Arial Unicode MS" could give me that kind of troubles?
  10. Is that annoying bug is fixed with the 10.1 updater?
  11. What happened to the downloadable update to 10.1? You promised that it will be available on the 17th, today is the 19th and there is still no sign of the file in your download section.
  12. Since there is no real fix for that annoying problem, coming from NNA, the best non-real fix is a soft called CAD Viewer 3.2. This is viewing software that can open several CAD formats, including HP/GL files. I'm using it to check the files I'm sending to the print shop, to find out if the text is condensed or not. Their WEB address is: www.guthcad.com.au Of course this is not a real solution, and it costs extra money, but that the best I have now.
  13. If I remember correctly, it got to do with Quicktime. Uninstall everything (VW, RW and QuickTime, if you have it on your system) Install VectorWorks. Install QuickTime (from the VectorWorks CD, if you want you can upgrade it later from the net). Install RenderWorks. It should work
  14. I couldn't agree more. Moving objects between class in a document, or from other document, is the most frustrating and time consuming action, in my daily work. I think the needed feature, to solve this problem, is very simple: "special paste" command. This command will do the regular paste, but before pasting the object/s, it will open a dialog with a pop-up menu, that will let as choose the class to paste into the object. Just don't forget to offer the "paste special" with a combination option with the good old "paste in place".
  15. Sorry to disappoint you Carl, but the problem occurs also when you check the "in computer" radio button. All of you are referring to HP drivers and plotters; let me remind you that I got the same on my Epson Stylus color 1520 - a simple old A2 printer that uses totally different driver. Until Katie will announce the savior fix for the problem the only work around I can think of is a decent viewer for HP print files. Does any one know about such a product? Does HP supply such viewer (in older drivers they had a preview option, in a window opening during the print process, so it shouldn't be so complicated)?
  16. Since upgrading to VW 9.x and 10.x a new print problem jump into my life - some plots got all the text messed up. In the effected prints it seems that the spaces between the characters got a negative value. Characters are printed one over the other with overlap. A line that should be 5 cm long is condensed into 1.5 cm. Strange? Wait to the random factor. Since upgrading from VW 8.x this problem started to happen in different files and different sheets, inside the same file. Just yesterday I've printed 35 sheets from the same file, 33 where printed correct 2 of them returned from the print shop with the condensed lines. The weird fact is yet to come: the fix for those 2 problematic prints was amazingly easy - just print them again. I didn't change any font, size or attribute regarding those texts. I didn't change anything in other parts of the drawing. I didn't change any of the preferences of the printer driver. I know it sounds really bad, but I'm holding this post for 2 months just to get the regularity of this problem. Until know nothing. What I know are those facts: 1. It happened on HP plotters (1050 series, with different drivers used to print the files) positioned in print shops and on my office Epson 1520, connected directly to the net. 2. It happened on 9.X and 10.X. never on 8.X. 3. It happened on some sheets in a document while others where printed OK 4. It happened on different computers. 5. It happened with different fonts, sizes etc, and even on different languages. 6. I'm using XP System with 256 MB RAM. 7. It can take 30 to 40 plots that are going fine, and then suddenly the ghost awakes and I get the plots from the shop, with the condensed text. 8. Dimensions, call-outs, and text inside symbol or groups, are effected in the same way. 9. This problem is line oriented - the condensation effect, in paragraphs of text, is taking only the spaces inside the line (between characters, and words), but do not effect the correct spaces between the lines. Some one saw this one? Some one knows how to deal with it?
  17. I agree, this board became important and useful part of my day, a lot thanks to Katie and the NNA crew. As for the raise offered by defjef - the money will come from the money we are paying for upgrades, so make it minimal raise, ha?
  18. Try to add to Mike and Dave settings transparency also. I'm using the "plain transparency" set to middle. It gives the water more realistic quality - the mirroring of other objects is less dramatic, and you can feel better the "depth" of the pool.
  19. The "cut 3d section" was always a big potential, limited by the sloppy implementation - the new cut model is a huge group of basic polygons. Editing the cut model is almost impossible. Today I found out that the cut model also lose the textures that were in it before using the "cut 3d section" command. I believe that it is another aspect of breaking the model into such basic 3d elements. In those days, when everything is rendered, it looks like a command that survived from MiniCad days, without growing with other parts of the software. Hey NNA, we deserve better than that.
  20. ESCAPE button can stop the rendering process anytime on a PC machine. My advice - don't press it in the "Geometry" stage. At this stage the software is a bit "touchy" and I had some crashes in that situation. If you'll press the ESCAPE during "rendering" stage, it will stop safely.
  21. ThanX again robert, I'll try those tips
  22. ThanX Robert, but this is not what I want. I'm used to insert my symbols when the insertion point is the outside of the jamb; it's easier to justify the symbols to other object, that way. I would like to keep this helpful habit, also in the plug-in inside symbol situation. is there any way to move the insertion point of both of them respectively?
  23. I know I can do it. I do it. I'm just suggesting a better and easier way to do it. Before 10.x we had to select the reshape tool to reshape a polygon, the text tool to edit text, and so on. One of the most time/clicks saving features that 10 brought to us is the ability to double click on an entity with the 2d selection tool, and immediately start to edit it, without selecting a special tool to do it. If we can edit a polygon with double click with the 2d selection tool, edit a text with the same move, and so on, why won't we do the same with the callouts?
  24. Editing various kinds of objects by double clicking them with the cursor was one of the greatest things VW 10 brought to us. I was really disappointed to find out that this intuitive move was ineffective on callouts notes, placed in the document. Hey guys, put the double click editing into call out. And be nice and do it in 10.5.
  25. When I'm trying to create a symbol containing a door or window PIO I ran into some strange behavior of the object: I create a window PIO, and change the attributes to my needs. I choose the PIO and select the "create symbol" command. If I'm using the default "plan projection center", everything is OK, but if I check the "next mouse click" option strange things start to happen. After clicking the "OK" button, I click at the desired insert point (let's say the mid left point of the window jamb), the new symbol disappears, I select it form the object browser and insert the new symbol in a wall. In plan view it looks good. In perspective or isometric view, with wire frame rendering, it looks good. But when switching to Open GL or RenderWorks rendering the strange stuff begins. The symbol is rendered at another position, in the wall. Half of it opens the wall as it should, but the other half is blocked by the wall. Trying to bypass this problem by creating the symbol with "plan projection center" option checked, and after that editing the insertion point, gave the same results. The really odd thing is that the problematic symbol is drawn correctly in plan, front, isometric wire frame views, corrupts when switching to render works or Open GL, and shown correctly again when switching back to wire frame or plan view. I've tried that with several others PIO and symbols and all of those checks gave the same problematic results. A bug? Me doing something wrong? Suggestions? I'm using VWA 10.0.1 on XP system
