i need help! i have an extruded object that has multiple angles on it. i am trying to 'cut out' some holes thru it on one axis. Not sure the best way of doing it, and have done this in the past, but have tried many different things with no luck. any suggestions? Thanks

Robert, so i just re-read your post. i renamed the record in my master file, then re-imported the symbol folder into my problem file. the newly named record came in. but i cant see any evidence of the record with the old name. i am unable to rename the new record (i called it 'XXX V2') back to 'XXX' VW says it is already in use. Is it invisible? and i am now noticing that i have a 'Sketch Style' that is in my resource browser that is named 'XXX' i delete the sketch and am able to rename the record. there are no sketches defined in my master file. continuing on with things i notice, when my master file is closed, and i look at it in the resource browser, then records are showing up in 'Sketch Styles' and are listed twice. Now when my master file is opened, and i look at it in the resource browser, then records are showing up in 'record formats' are listed once, and there are no sketch styles. Also i have noticed that when i re import the symbol folder it asks me to rename the incoming symbol folder. my symbol folder name has a '&' in it and when asked to rename it then has '&&' in the name. is this a character i should be avoiding? and now it seams that the records wont attached to my symbols anymore and if they do, all the default info is gone. Pat, i am SP5, restarted, have done a new user or reinstalled yet. it seams file specific. new vw files do not have the problem. not sure what to do here.

it is weird, but it only works when i have the master file it resides in open. when that master file is closed, the record does not attach or come into the new document. i did check and delete anything named the same in the destination file. i am only using the resource browser, not copy/paste with the symbol, why would it only work if the master file is actually open? thanks...

GWS, only import when it works! Pat, the record is attached. it seems that it only imports or goes into a 'new' file properly when the file that the symbol is in is open.... i can get it to go into some existing files, BUT it still does not go into the existing file i want it to properly. any ideas? i have a symbol that i created, it has (1) record attached, and some of those fields are linked to text. in the drawing it is in i can insert it and the record is attached, no problem. i create a new blank file, the same symbol is active from the resource browser and it goes in fine. i go to an existing document, and do the same thing. the symbol comes in, but there is no trace of the record or of it being attached to the symbol. what am i doing wrong? VW-Dsgnr 2009 Mc OS 10.5.8

yes Pat i am. the work around i have done for assigning the classes was to just group the text and class the group, but i really would like to know why some of the 'linked text' is selectable and some are not. As for moving it around i was able to do so after i grouped it. Not the best solution Thanks

ok.... i have a worksheet/database that one of the fields has multiple number within it that i want to count separately. The different values are currently separated by a plus sign. The cells are formatted as text so VW does not add them up. What i am trying to do is count how many times a particular number shows up within the cells of the database and within that record field. i hope i am explaining this properly. Below is an example the the database, and below that is the desired outcome. DATABASE CELLS 100+100+50+25 100+50 100+25 75+50 DESIRED OUTCOME Length | Qty 25 | 2 50 | 3 75 | 1 100 | 4 Thanks for ANY help!! Drew

help! i have a symbols created a while ago and have a record attached and have linked some text to record fields. i am now trying to clean it up, move and reformat some of the text. i am unable to do this to some of the links. the OIP shows me text editing features, (font, size, formatting) BUT it says it is a group and will not let me move the XY Position OR assign it a class. Better yet, when editing the symbol, how can i tell what field is linked to the text? any idea? TIA, Drew

is there anything to put in the 'header' field of a worksheet that would automatically insert the vw file name? what about time or date? i know it is not excel.... TIA

Pat, Is this done by; tools... reports... create reports... ?? When i do the above, i get the worksheet, but as i change the info, the symbols do not update. Thanks

I have about 95 symbols created about 2 years ago that have a record attached and that info is shown in the symbol itself. I can create a report that shows me the info, but cannot edit it quickly as a spread sheet. Is there a way of doing this with out going to each symbol? The symbols represent different roof hatches. I have Designer 08 and like the functionality of the 2-way with the lighting fixtures. Thanks

One other question.... i have noticed that if i change the elevation of the LPO, yes the light's Z Height changes, but in a Front or Right View the light is not attached or near the lighting position at all!! What is Happening???

Okay... now my problem is that i have to move all LPO Names over 12" from the position... and I cannot get them to move all at once!! HELP

Steve, I know that much, but I have about 200 Lights and 60 Light Positions... Some of the instruments attached automatically, for some reason about 40 did not.... Looking for a quick fix as time is precious.

2008 a couple of questions; 1. Is there any way to quickly Show or Hide the LPO Name? Maybe thru classes, thou there doesn't seem to be a class for that... is that because it is a PIO? 2. Is there any way to change the fill behind the Text Field for the LPO Name? Currently there is none and i need a fill. 3. Is there any way to change the LPO Name Text Field alignment? (Left, Center, Right) 4. Is there any way to change the position of the LPO Name via X or Y values? Thanks in advance.

2008 I created a Inst Sched. using the Create Report command. I now need to go back and add one field, the 'User Field 6' Is there a way to edit and add just this one? OR do i have to create a new report? Thanks
