@propstuff can you please attach a VW sample file the final pillow product with Tassel & texture

Sorry, that was 16 years ago. The file is lost to time....

The Forum also seems to have lost the image files that were attached.

I have barely touched SubDiv, so I'm not sure, but that may well be an effective way to go these days.

  2. OK, thank you, I'll try 2000p.

iPhoto lets you select a pixel width to export (under Custom), so I don't need to enter a complicated fraction.

Sorry, but are you rendering the scene on screen (or something like that) and then exporting the screen via iPhoto?

If you're unfamiliar, the best thing is to use the VW Export Image File command. Then you have "complete" control over it. You also dont have to wait for it to render to export.

Start it off in the render mode you want then hit Esc to stop the render. Then go to the export dialogue.

  3. Partly solved, thanks for the clue, Nicholas.

I have been exporting as .jpg images 770 pixels wide, because that is the width required by my website - I just tried it at 7700 pixels and bingo, it renders perfectly (much slower, but I can live with that).

You shouldn't need to go that large. I rarely export at much more than 2000 across because that comes out at a file which will print to A3 happily and any more is a waste of time etc.

Try exporting at 800 or 1000 (but not double, because -like harmonics- you might get the interference pattern again).

  4. Moire patterns are from small mis-matches in pixel/dot spacings as Mike said.

Have you tried changing the output resolution of your renders a bit? This *should* make the small mis-match a large mis-match and the patterns should go away.

  5. Consider the market penetration and succes of AutoCAD, Adobe CS, Sketchup, 3dsMAX.... ever consider why they've penetrated their markets so well? It's not because they're better but because they're easy to obtain and crack.

Are you suggesting that vendors (of any product) should make their product easy to steal to increase their market penetration? {:-O

BTW; The free student versions of Autodesk products work in exactly the same way as VW: they apply a watermark and will "stain" any files they come "in contact with"

  6. Not sure where to post this but.....

    FYI

As of yesterday; whenever I load the forum webpage my Intego Virus Barrier brings up a warning about a malicious site.

    This is : count41.51yes.com

according to my meagre search this is some sort of server virus associated with bot nets and attempts to download some Java nastiness.

I put this address into the blocked address tab of the virus program but the message still appears anytime I visit the forum.

It doesn't happen with any other site.

  7. Yes, that's a workaround I use all the time.

I am wishing for a proper tool. FormZ essentially adds these elements to a surface as breaks in the object, allowing you the option to push/pull them, texture them differently etc.

    KM

Well the Project tool does split the surface, but then the surface can neither be pulled because it's not a plane, nor can it be extruded.

It has the added disadvantage of punching a hole right through the object. Perhaps this is an "advantage", but the option to do either would be better.

Enabling the Push Pull tool to work on non-planar surfaces would go most of the way there wouldn't it?
