  1. RW Backgrounds can be rotated in their preference dialogues but cannot be moved up and down. More advanced renderers map the background on to a sphere for manipulation but this cannot be done in RW
  2. sketch and Hidden Line are still in the same place they were
  3. Are you using Environmental lighting? HDRIs work better with this on. View>Lighting>Lighting options>Environmental lighting. Set it to one bounce. This will increase your render time a bit (but make the lighting better)
  4. VW Preferences>3D tab>3D conversion Res. set that to Very High. does that make a difference?
  5. M Borik, http://vr-zone.com/articles/does-core-i7-hyper-threading-helps-/6160.html this suggests that Hyperthreading may add about 15% to render speeds regardless of the threads showing 100% usage. Whereas adding real cores increases speeds almost linearly. IE if 4 cores is 100%, 4 cores with hypertheading is about 115% 6 cores is about 150% 8 cores is about 200% HTH
  6. double click the grid snap icon in the snapping pallette. set the grid size there. select Print grid.
  7. Deary me, Long and Short scales, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_and_short_scales "Usage of the two systems can be a subject of controversy. Differences in opinion as to which system should be used can evoke resentment between adherents, while national differences of any kind can acquire jingoistic overtones"
  8. As far as identifying them, I think there's a plug-in that does that (and delete them) I can't remember whose. As for where they come from: in Widows the Ctrl-click duplicates things. It's very easy to try to Shift-click and get the wrong one instead. The record for my students is 17 identical Walls.
  9. Replaced with Indirect Lighting (View>Lighting Options) Much better results much faster, and simple to set. Also Environment Lighting (from HDRI) much the same as before
  10. Simple shapes like an extrude (such as the letter C) can be done easily with the existing Unfold command
  11. The "Unfold" command in the 3D Powerpack section has been able to do simple developments for a few versions now. It only works on simple mathematically developable surfaces eg a truncated cone. It cannot develop what a first year sheetmetal apprentice can -eg like the transition from a circle to a rectangle- let alone complex surfaces. Bob Wagners plugin set is what you want. -bless his heart http://vectorwiki.org/index.php?title=Geometry_Plug-ins
  12. are you extruding *1 single* entirely closed surface?
  13. If you have an extrusion which has come out hollow, it's because the shape you extruded is not a single closed poly. You must compose or otherwise join all the individual bits into a single shape and make sure it's closed. (no open segments)
  14. With the exception of some special objects ( eg Walls, extrudes)..... you cant texture just one face of an object; the texture is applied to all of the object. Use the Extract tool from the 3D pallette to extract just the face you want, shift it a tiny amount off the face of the object and texture that.
  15. Libraries>Objects-Building services>Electrical-Accurate Lamps-Metric.
  16. from memory Vectorworks folder>Plugins>Data.
  17. Thanks Kaare, The Gentlemen's Area would be quite safe. As for physics: all the ribs are notched together, and the core of each rib has a square hole through which a 12mm square steel bar passes and joins all the ribs, and tube pieces from one end to the other. Then glued up and end bolts tightened. Safe as houses. :-)
  18. No, it's one I found on the twitterblog. search for; Free HDRI rendering. there are a few sites. Note The C4D engine does not seem to cope properly with sphere (probe)mapped HDRIs only LatLong Virtual steatopygia might be subject to linear U-V deformation in the -W direction, but the prototype is actually as comfortable as any wooden chair. Perhaps moreso because the slats are somewhat springy. It was shortlisted for "best Prototype" at the annual furniture industry show when I entered it, but no bannana. thankyou
  19. God Bless John Williams who wrote that thing(I think). I use it all the time. I can't imagine why it has never been introduced into the program. I have a copy of the VSS or VSM file for 2011 if you cant find it at VectorDepot. (I think it's in the "old" section down near the bottom of the list.
  20. Macromedia's Freehand had a FANTASTIC trace tool. but I'm not sure what became of it after Macromedia got swallowed. It might have been incorporated into Flash or Illustrator. (??) The VW trace has always been awfull and only just barely works on very simple high contrast line work
  21. You might want to message Islandmon. This is right up his alley.
  22. Go to the Advanced properties tab in the OIP for the Viewport on the sheet. What does the Text Scaling value say?
  23. root 2 is the factor between A and B series adjacent paper sizes. Are the print etc settings OK. Also; are you printing from a Sheet or Design layer?
  24. Rather than extrude a wiggly line, Use a wiggly NURBS curve for the top edge of the drape and a different one (if you want) for the bottom curve, then Loft between them. This will enable you to have both edges hang whatever way you want and have the folds hang more like a real drape.
