  1. @Wes Gardner , thank you for this. Now I know where the problem is. I am not creating the doors in a wall, but rather in a fence. Generally use it as a gate symbol, hower I actually parametrised it to really reflect teh design intent for the gate as far as I could. So I don't have the opportunity to set the side/ swing nor do I have the flip button in the OIP, you see. Well, if there is no other way, I need to resort to Mirror, I suppose.
  2. Hi All, Not sure if anyone would actually monitor a topic from five years back. I am working in 2020 and I seem to have the same problem - flipping. I can't see this option in OIP and anywhere else. Door insertion is quite odd too. Only the grip is located left/ centre/ right, but the result is the same. Am I missing something here?
  3. Thanks for your thoughts and tip, @bcd. I will try it out.
  4. Hello Katarina, Yes, the times are difficult. Looking outdoors everything looks normal, but when I think about all those poor people in hospitals, including the medical staff, I just can't think about going out and enjoying it. Thank you so much for looking into my posts and helping out. I am aware that there are so many parameters, settings and options that it's easy to miss something. Which apparently keeps happening to me. I knew it must be somewhere. I was looking a number of times into the ID options and display etc., but didn't notice the Class field right below it. It seems that I had this disabled when I was editing the style. When I added the TPZ/ RPA parameter again, the units were available to set up. And now I also understand the syntax behind the units. That was very helpful Katarina. I am trying to create our VW resources so that they resemble our 'traditional' CAD ones and it seems to have been a steep learning curve. I suppose someone needs to pioneer it for the sake of the company 😒. Now, the second post/ problem. No no no, I do refer to the Existing Trees. I realised that I have this problem only in the Annotation mode within a viewport. In a Design Layer, it's fine. The behaviour is slightly different between these two spaces as well. In the DL the tree shape is highlighted, whilst in the Annotation mode, it highlights as a square outline of the tree symbol (I suppose). Anyway, I got back to the Design Layer with these tags.
  5. I actually came across another problem with the same project and tagging exercise. I initially created tags on Design Layer. Then I realised I should probably annotate the drawing in the Sheet Layer, so moved them all across. Not that that was smooth - I am not aware of the way to move items with reference point between Design Layer and Annotation space on a Sheet Layer. As one could imagine, once moved all tags lost their association with tree objects. Now, when I tried to reassign them by just moving the marker, I was not able to choose which tree the tag should point to. VW tries to identify which object is relevant. And unfortunately it fails. For example, I tend to point to tree trunks, but always the wrong tree was selected. Does anyone know if there is a way to circle through the objects available within the tag's range? Like with some key pressed, e.g. like when using B key to X Ray the linework.
  6. @KWABA , I don't unfortunately. I was hoping with this thread that I could get help from someone who can do programming and scripts. Watch this space - maybe one day.
  7. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has come across an issue like that. I am working in V2020 and when I export to DWG, the leaders in the SheetLayer/ Paper Space have massive arrow markers. See below What is interesting, the annotation is done within the viewport, but in the dwg file they live in the paperspace itself. As you can see, the text and shoulder lines are fine - just the arrows. Any ideas or settings to tame this? I must say that I struggled to get my drawing out last week. Was ready by afternoon, but then I spent hours (I think I submitted it as draft after 10 pm!) to try to get my head around why graphics (particularly hatches) doesn't do what I intended. I will post that in another thread, existing or new.
  8. Hi guys, I work from home on my personal Mac and I can't get the greyed layers grey when exporting to PDF. I have already decreased the 'gayness' to 30%, but they come out perfectly black. Am I missing anything here?
  9. Hi guys, Is there a way to do it through the Resource Manager? It would be great if all that could be done from one place. For example, to import dim styles one needs to do it through Document Settings/ Preferences. I also experience VW [on my Mac] 'quitting unexpectedly' every time I try to import layers from another documents. Shall I look into any specific graphics card settings?
  10. Hi guys, I was trying to do a few things with Existing tree tags, but couldn't find the way forward on my own. Perhaps someone could help. First thing I wanted to do, was to replicate the way we annotate existing trees in our daily routine in AutoCAD. I tried to modify the tag information to show what I want, but I can't go beyond the options VW provides as options. For example the number only, number + name etc. I want a bit more information and cannot compose the built in tag this way. I think it is possible with proposed plants, but not with existing. When I gave up I moved to creating my own Data Tag style, which largely worked. Two things I don't know again: how to then disable the automatic Tree Tag display and how to express TPZ in metres rather than in mm [by default]? With the latter, I tried to type in expression like /1000 in the tag data link, but it didn't work. I didn't expect it to, to be honest. I knew it had to be more to it than this. Any experience and ideas, anybody?
  11. Yeah, this is what I thought when I first did it, but after exiting the Worksheet Edit mode both of them got updated. Perhaps there is a relevant option somewhere.
  12. I noticed another interesting, but undesirable behaviour of the Landscape Areas. I changed the Category field of a plant style that is used only within the Landscape Areas, in order to get it picked up by the schedule. Nothing happened. It appeared that the changes to plant styles won't get updated automatically by Landscape Areas. I needed to go to them one by one and reassign. Like I described above - I think it's the same behaviour.
  13. Now I can see that there is a Selection State criterium. I need to play with these, but do I understand it right, that every time the schedule is to be recalculated the right set of items needs to be selected? Also, I understand that for different set of criteria, different worksheet templates need to be created/ saved in the Resource Manager. I noticed that when I simply duplicate one and change the criteria, all duplicates follow the behaviour.
  14. @Pat Stanford , but answering the query exactly, is there a way to limit the data to selection only? I have a feeling that the answer is NO.
  15. On a side note, is there a way to replace one plant style with another? Even, when the plant [to be replaced] is part of a Planting Area? I know this can be done with individual plants/ specimens, but can't find the way to do it globally, particularly for plants within groups/ mixes. I tried to create an instance/ specimen of the plant I want to get rid of and use 'Replace all instances', but that didn't affect the mixes :(. Any thoughts?
  16. I think I am almost there. The thing is I can't do this Select Item thing. It's grey. The only ones that can be selected are actually those 'duplicates' that are correct.
  17. I noticed that when I reassign the style again, it removes the instances with the incorrect spec. Well, at least a way to go, but quite laborious. Not sure even where this came from as I have only one style for these plant species. Perhaps a bug. The drawing was migrated from 2019, so perhaps this is a sort of redundancy.
  18. @bgoff, thanks for the tip, but I will require a bit more help regarding this. The Select Item is greyed out for majority of instances. Within the duplicated ones, only the correct ones are selectable. Then, even if I manage to select them, if they are included within Planting Areas the only thing I can do is to replace the style. But the thing is that I have only one style per each of these two species. How can I then identify what caused the problem or where the difference comes from?
  19. Hi guys, I just came across this problem with my planting plan and the associated schedule. It seems that within my plan there are instances of plants or plant styles with an alternative spec. This makes the schedule have two records for the same plant - like shown below. I can't find the way to identify where these plants are within the plan. In my Resource Manager I have only one style per each of these plant species, so don't really know how I got to that situation. Any advice on how to replace or rectify these instances, or merge their styles if there are two somehow?
  20. @archdaly, I have the same problem. VW crashes always when editing polylines with the Reshape tool. I work in file that is 2D only, so don't understand what causes the problem. And yes, I am centred on the drawing.
  21. @Tamsin Slatter, thanks Tamsin. I will try it out. I understand that this is VW internal thing and does not affect the coordinates shown in the topographical survey information. I need to revise how this works in VW, because I feel really unconfident about that.
  22. Hi Tamsin, I was about to send it through, but thought I would replicate it first to be able to explain. It seems that now it's not happening. In the meantime I installed the new SP so it was either rectified through it or when I experienced it it was just w bug. When it happened before, I just opened the drawing/ model and realised that it got misaligned and this had to be because our dwg reference got wider due to additional linework on the side (like sketch options for some features). This morning I tried to replicate a situation where the reference is already in, then it's changed in AutoCAD and updated in VW. Nothing bad happened. The other attempt was to change the dwg reference and open the VW file that has it referenced. Still nothing. Well, it seems to work now so that's the most important. For the future, I would like to make sure that I am not missing anything. I understand that there is no setting that may potentially control that behaviour? Something along the lines of always [dynamically] centering the reference files? We always use the recommended import option (the first one). Please let me know if there is anything I could/ should look into my settings/ preferences/ options. Regards
  23. @Wes Gardner, thanks for that. I did miss the Option key (this is on Mac, isn't it?). I need to try it out as shown. Thanks for the time being and hopefully for good.
  24. Hi guys. We also tend to have a problem with extruding sometimes. For example, we created some 3D objects by extruding some time ago. Now we need to amend their height and some of them just don't seem to react with the extrude tool. I also tend to struggle with using Push/ Pull mode. I watched the videos and it seems dead simple, but very often I create a simple box shape, change the drawing plane to one of its faces, draw my new shape and rather than being pushed inside, for example, it creates a new solid inside the original one. I then need to subtract. Is there any setting that controls this behaviour? I might still be missing some settings hence not making the most of it. I would appreciate your thoughts.
  25. Hi All, I have noticed such behaviour in VW after upgrading to 2020. I started a drawing in 2019, which has a DWG referenced. Now, in 2020, when someone who was working on that DWG drew something outside of the original drawing extent, this reference in VW is misaligned. As if VW centered it, based on the new extents. Funny enough, I have a similar situation with someone displacing something in a DWG reference, but it doesn't affect its position in VW. Even though now the DWG drawing bounding box is huge. Do you know where I can find a parameter/ setting that controls that centering behaviour? And perhaps why it's happening in one drawing and not in another? There are still many VW mysteries I haven't unravelled yet. Your thoughts and experience would be much appreciated.
