  1. We have asked three questions on the same page in the same day. Can you tell we're newbies? Another problem we've come up with is, we have successfully created a poured basement concrete foundation, but when we try to insert wood frame interior walls in this basement for load bearing purposes as well as for room divisions, the program defaults it back to concrete walls. We would like to know how to make wood framed walls with a 1/2" or 5/8" sheetrock skin in this basement setting and be able to insert doors as well. We saw in the walls library the 2x6 5/8" wall and selected it to draw in this basement but it will not. Everything becomes concrete. What are we doing wrong? Is there some type of step-by-step hands-on drawing publication or CD that allows you to draw as you learn? We have the MacAcademy VW & VWA CDs and have watched them many multiple times and when we get ready to use what we've seen, we lose our ability to create the same steps. We've downloaded the VW excercises manual which has been some help, but it doesn't seem to relate like it did in VW. We're feeling pretty stupid and need help on getting focused on getting the basics down so we can start drawing. Love the program, but am becoming extremely intimidated by the vast abilities of this software! We're also on the user group list and when reading their complex problems, it only aids in our ability to feel worse in not even knowing the basics. I become very envious wishing I knew the program as they do and having to deal with such complex problems versus our minor ones. Any suggestions on how to feel less overwhelmed? The more we try to learn, the worse it's getting; we definitely would like to see some light at the end of this tunnel! P.S. Our hardware is a G3 400mhz Powerbook; at least we feel good about that!
  2. We have attempted to create a pre-defined or custom wall-type configuration. The wall type is as follows: It is a modular residential or commercial wall that is manufactured with a styrofoam core of 3 1/2" or 5 1/2" in thickness. The styrofoam is laminated to a 7/16" 4x8 OSB sheet on each side. There is no frame work inside these walls. What we are trying to do is have VA draw the wall showing the two 7/16" laminates on each side of the styrofoam fill. For all intents and purposes 7/16" could be designated .5" and the styrofoam fill could show some pattern of a hatch. We have tried to create this wall type and have successfully put it in the wall type settings library but have been unsuccessful in having it draw in the plan as we would like to see it. How do we set this up to draw as defined in the above? Hope you can help!
  3. I've been to several bookstores and libraries looking for some kind of publication that explains VWA objects in the libraries. Most are self explanatory but there are a few like a CMU and Spl and Cpx, stagger, Type X, etc. that no one seems to have an explanation for, even contractors in the field don't know what they are. Maybe I'm talking to the wrong people. Is there a list of explanations for (Cpx) 2 Hr 2x4 Wd Stagger w/Type X or (Spl) and Cavity 5 5/8" CMU w/Brick? Or is there a glossary of terms or objects explained in the software that I have not been able to find? These are just a few of the items that I have run across but with all the libraries in VW, I am sure to find others as well. Hope you can help!
